  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:51 AM) I understand what you're saying, but I think the value of prospects are getting a bit out of hand right now. The entire reason they became so valuable over the last several years is because of the STEEP financial cost of proven quality veterans. However, now that cost has decreased. If quality veterans are available at reasonable prices, then the value of prospects correspondingly decreases, and the best move becomes to trade some of these kids you're not particularly high on... I want prospects added to the system to increase KW's ability to make bigger acquisitions in the offseason. Right now, our system is pretty thin if you consider Beckham and Richard to no longer be prospects. You're only looking at 5 or so legit guys in Danks, Dex Carter, Hudson, Viciedo, and Flowers (and potentially Mitchell)
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 04:51 AM) Well, they did face the Nats and Reds. the Nationals aren't a terrible hitting team
  3. Why can no one hit the Cubs pitching? Outside of the Lilly game against Philadelphia, their pitching has been amazing since the ASB.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:18 AM) KW will NOT be a seller, even if we lose every game from now until August 1st and Detroit/Minnesota win every single one. But maybe he'll be more willing to if the offense continues to struggle and we fall 7-8 games out come August 15th.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:05 AM) This season, our CF have hit .225 with a .285 OBP. 3 HR and 20 RBI combined. Chone Figgins, ladies and gentlemen
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:04 AM) Just to see if they could get a player like a young Ethier to replace him via trade? But probably pull him back after the offer has been made? Well yeah, with the intent to trade him. I really think you could get a team to overpay for him if we fall out of it.
  7. So is it too early to be worried about Phegley? I wish we had some observers for Kannapolis games to shared their thoughts.
  8. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:58 AM) KW won't sell now, if anything he'll try to buy. If we were 6 games out plus then I can see him selling but unless we go winless the rest of the week I just don't see that happening. What do people think about Dye being able to clear waivers in two weeks or so?
  9. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:56 AM) I only do it cause its true, I love this site. But honestly, coming to this site after ANY loss and its exactly the same every time: "this.team.is.dead., season is over, we're a terrible team, etc etc". Seriously, its gotten to a point where this board can't be rational if anything goes wrong in a game. The site is a great source of info, analysis and general chat...but after every single loss it takes a massive nose dive and all reason from otherwise intelligent posters goes out the window. Maybe it's me, but there's less activity on this board after losses than at any time in the past 5 years (besides for when we went into the tank in 2007). Hell, there's not even White Sox Loser threads anymore.
  10. Ramirez is not going to be put in CF. You're wasting your time if you actually think that's going to happen.
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:51 AM) They have extra sweet gatorade. Michaels made a huge mistake and got lucky. You mean the extra sweet gatorade that Soto drank prior to last season?
  12. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:49 AM) Welcome to soxtalk. Come here after a loss and this is what you get, seems like people expect this team to go 162-0 and that no other team in baseball goes through anything we do. Every post you make seems to be criticizing posters on this site. From what I gather, you're an excellent baseball person. I think you could really contribute to the board by posting about actual stuff on the field.
  13. How come every player called up by the Cubs from Iowa seems to do so well? This pitcher they got in the Derosa deal looks pretty good.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:47 AM) It was a game winner. Gave us the lead in the 7th. Don't distort things. Then there's plenty of moments like that, including Thome's opening day homer.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:44 AM) That game winning hit off Wheeler a few days ago was awful. 7th inning...we were basically talking about game winners I thought.
  16. Wow, Piniella tried for the game winning squeeze with the bases loaded, and they missed it.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:40 AM) Has anyone? Getz has been pretty good late in games. You're right though, we had just terrible hitting from the 7th inning on it seems all year. How many game winning hits have we even had at home this year? Beckham's vs the Cubs, but who else?
  18. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:40 AM) I don't hate the Cubs as a team like I do the TWins or Tigers, I just hate their fans. I got about 20 e-mails at work saying "guess what, Cubs are in first" today. I don't think I had even talked about baseball with half of them this season.
  19. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:38 AM) I hate to sound like Hawk, but has he done anything in the clutch for us? Has Jermaine?
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:37 AM) Even though he was an .816 OPS against LHP this season, and is the best defensive player on the roster. And he had good ABs his first two times tonight.
  21. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:36 AM) And now the Cubs are threatening. Could this night get any worse? You'll be much more peaceful with what happens in the NL if you just assume Cubs will win the NL Central, and then you hope 3 good teams make it besides them in the Dodgers, Phillies, and Cardinals.
  22. QUOTE (onedude @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:33 AM) i noticed that veterans tend to get into a funk at the same time. yeah, usually in Minnesota. Dye's career numbers in Minnesota are terrible, and Konerko's aren't much better.
  23. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:33 AM) I kind of wish KW would just clean f***ing house with this team... they are not going to do much playing like the way they are. Luckily the rumors that the trade deadline means nothing this year will be true. I can't help but think we'll be sellers 10 days from now. You think this offense has any prayer of going head-to-head against the '27 Yankees this coming weekend?
  24. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:31 AM) We haven't score more than 5 runs in 12 games. Which is why it surprises me when I see you post you want to see them bring everyone back next year.
  25. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:30 AM) I am not sure what this means for us, but certainly with points 1&2, we basically have no shot even if we were lucky enough to make it to the post season. Thoughts? I hate this line of thinking. You make it there, and anything can happen. We could have easily won the first 3 games against Tampa last year, and we have 3 strong starting pitchers this year that have shown the ability to shut down good hitting teams.
