The Official 7/17 Sox Withdrawal Relief Game Thread vs. Baltimore
Alexei almost with a great play, but PK can't scoop it. Thornton struggling, and Orioles are threatening to get back into this.

Stud! I love how Getz can score on Beckham's doubles.

QUOTE (Nokona @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:35 AM) Wise just punched his ticket to his couch after that I think Who knows...after his awful performance this year, he's still ticking. There's been little mention of him being the odd man out when Quentin returns in 2015.

What Movie Have You Seen The Most?
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:29 AM) The Karate Kid - I watch it every time I stumble upon it until I have something important to do. There's rarely anything more important than The Karate Kid. It's sad that a lot of teenagers today have never seen that movie. Elisabeth Shue in that movie in just awesome (and I don't mean her acting).

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 02:30 AM) 31013 attendance for tonight....would have hoped for 32-33K, but we'll take anything in the 30's. Orioles are just not a very good team, although they are entertaining offensively. I was thinking Melvin Mora would look nice at 3B for us, but he still has a sub 700 OPS at 3rd, although he's been much hotter recently than the overall season stats would indicate. Keep going back and forth about Chris Getz as a starter...or whether Teahen/Mora (etc.) with Beckham at 2B would be better. Mora sucks, and for what Teahen will cost, I want no part of him. Caulfield, the weather was pretty bad here around 4 PM today.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:28 AM) I assume that means its on the Dan Ryan? Maybe 5 feet shorter than his home run in game 163? You won't see many more obvious no-doubters hit to center field.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:20 AM) Brock/Broglio AJ SF trade Zambrano/Kazmir Colon for Phillips/Sizemore/Lee Borchard for Matt Thornton (just kidding) Smoltz for Doyle Alexander Considering I think Tillman will have a better career than Kazmir or Liriano, and Adam Jones is likely to be more valuable over his career than Nathan, I give the big edge to Baltimore (not to mention they got Sherrill)

Albers isn't close to throwing strikes with his fastball.

Gotta love Wise chasing the 2-0 a foot off the plate, and then popping up the hanger.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:16 AM) wonder if seattle regrets trading Jones That could go down as one of the 5 worst trades in the last 100 years of baseball.

Awful...Linebrink's velocity is way down also. 91-92 mph on the gun tonight. I hate putting relievers into different roles than what they're used to.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:08 AM) Konerko's not going anywhere. Dye probably won't either. I think the Sox might surprise and make a big run at Josh Hamilton or some other corner outfielder. They should, financially, be in a real good spot, despite recent quotes that say otherwise. I expect Thome to be gone. And by keeping Konerko and Dye, you still are enabling spots for your youngsters to develop as you've essentially added a guy like Hamilton and probably have the ability to put in a Danks in the OF and groom Flowers and get him ab's behind AJ and Paulie/Dye. Viciedo spends another year in the minors. I want nothing to do with Hamilton. I have no confidence in him to stay healthy for an entire year.

Roberts just owns the Sox. It's interesting that the Sox were supposedly very close to acquiring him last offseason.

Linebrink is now our 6th inning man? Really interesting decision.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) Another horrible f***ing pitch to swing at. Come on Bacon! Those pitches had a ton of movement (from that arm angle), but yeah, probably should have realized those pitches were way inside.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:01 AM) Beckham sitting pretty. I don't know how that wasn't a f***ing strike. This ump has been awesome for the Sox tonight.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 02:59 AM) To be honest with you I tend to disagree with this. The reason I like Gavin more than Danks is that Gavin goes deeper into games more often and always seems to keep the team in games. I also think that is why Gavin will win more games (his ability to pitch deep). But Danks is improving consistently at getting deeper into games and he has definately battled through 5 today and will be done I'm sure. He just has to keep his mechanics consistent from inning to inning.
