The Official 7/17 Sox Withdrawal Relief Game Thread vs. Baltimore
Awful...Linebrink's velocity is way down also. 91-92 mph on the gun tonight. I hate putting relievers into different roles than what they're used to.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:09 AM) Thorty already up. It looks like Sox are going to use Pena as 8th inning man.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:08 AM) Konerko's not going anywhere. Dye probably won't either. I think the Sox might surprise and make a big run at Josh Hamilton or some other corner outfielder. They should, financially, be in a real good spot, despite recent quotes that say otherwise. I expect Thome to be gone. And by keeping Konerko and Dye, you still are enabling spots for your youngsters to develop as you've essentially added a guy like Hamilton and probably have the ability to put in a Danks in the OF and groom Flowers and get him ab's behind AJ and Paulie/Dye. Viciedo spends another year in the minors. I want nothing to do with Hamilton. I have no confidence in him to stay healthy for an entire year.

Roberts just owns the Sox. It's interesting that the Sox were supposedly very close to acquiring him last offseason.

Linebrink is now our 6th inning man? Really interesting decision.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 02:01 AM) Another horrible f***ing pitch to swing at. Come on Bacon! Those pitches had a ton of movement (from that arm angle), but yeah, probably should have realized those pitches were way inside.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:01 AM) Beckham sitting pretty. I don't know how that wasn't a f***ing strike. This ump has been awesome for the Sox tonight.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 02:59 AM) To be honest with you I tend to disagree with this. The reason I like Gavin more than Danks is that Gavin goes deeper into games more often and always seems to keep the team in games. I also think that is why Gavin will win more games (his ability to pitch deep). But Danks is improving consistently at getting deeper into games and he has definately battled through 5 today and will be done I'm sure. He just has to keep his mechanics consistent from inning to inning.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 02:58 AM) Thome "quietly" has a .902 OPS, higher than Konerko. Really interesting decisions coming up with Dye and Thome in the off-season. If Dye keeps hitting the way he has, you almost HAVE to exercise his option for 2010...and if Quentin is going to be uncertain going into next year, even more of a priority for KW. You can't see us going after someone like Vladimir Guerrero, even coming off 2-3 "down" seasons and at the back end of his career. As much as we love Dye, his option of 11.5 million I believe is just too much in this market.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 01:56 AM) oh sure, blame your satellite provider That scoreboard is crazy. I can't stand when they say a game is postponed when it's in a rain delay.

I'm happy we got to him, as that's one of the worst starters I've seen pitch in the last few years. Baltimore fans won't have to put up with his junk for too much longer.

Thome gets the low fastball, and hits the homer!

Why in the hell is Alexei trying to bunt? He's swinging the bat well, and there's still a lot of time left in this game.

It's amazing how bad the Nationals are. It's the perfect team for the Cubs to start the 2nd half against.

That should be it for Danks. Made the big pitch when he had to.

Ugh, his mechanics are just terrible tonight. He has almost his whole back towards the hitter by the time it gets to the plate.

This infield defense is just atrocious. Might be the worst in the AL

Weak grounder by Wise. Oh, and Quentin's "healthy" enough to play in both games of the DH today.

This would be a good time for Wise's first homer of the year.

QUOTE (hometeamfan @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 01:18 AM) thats where AJ was calling them....did you not see him practically standing when Danks threw? Maybe if he was throwing 92 instead of 88, they wouldn't be hitting the fastball so hard. I don't think anyone can argue he's hanging the offspeed pitch too much.
