2009 All-Star Game Discussion Thread
My favorite moment of the game was McCarver saying Youkilis might be the most valuable player in baseball due to his production as related to his relatively low salary (6 million). Meanwhile, the next guy up makes a little over league minimum and has better numbers this year while playing numerous positions (Zobrist).

Halladay Superthread
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 03:13 AM) I'm thinking Halladay will end up in Philly....I am just hoping Detroit doesn't go out of their way to try and get him. They don't have the prospects to get him. I really think Philadelphia is where he'll end up.

Halladay Superthread
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 04:05 AM) i think a deal of Richard, Poreda, Fields, and another prospect would get Halladay. That's 3 young guys who are already at MLB level and an upcoming propsect. That's rumored to be more than what they are looking for. You don't think Toronto could get more than that? I can't wait for Halladay to get traded.

Not sure it's been reported on here, but Buehrle is going to be the 2nd pitcher for the AL. Also, Hanley Ramirez has some gigantic arms.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 09:26 PM) I don't believe this to be true, but I will say, and it goes along great with this thread, that Hedi and Spencer are really genesis, and it goes over the head of too many people in Hollywood. What they have done with their 15 minutes has been incredible. Yes, he's a great "bad guy". He knows how to push everyone's button. The reason "The Hills" is a great program to watch is that it's a great conversation with the right out of college girls at work.

Halladay Superthread
QUOTE (DC23MVP @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) I think that a Floyd, Beckham, and Alexei for Halladay deal is pretty good for us, but I don't think we need to do it. We'd have a whole at 3B and at SS that would be hard to fill, and I think it wouldn't be worth it. Yeah....no!

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 10:16 PM) Title IX is a joke and needs to go. Awesome! Couldn't agree more, when I worked in the Athletic Department for a big-time Division I school, it's ridiuclous the impact it has on everyone.

Top Sox Moments So Far
Every year, I try to make a thread like this at the All-Star Break and at the end of the season. This season has been pretty bland, all things considered. Here's my top 5: 5: Thome's 3 run homer on opening day against Kansas City 4: The Sunday game in Milwaukee featuring Buehrle's homer, AJP's clutch single, and the first "Hell Yes" 3: Jenks getting Span to hit into a double play to end Saturday's game in Minnesota 2: Dye and Konerko going back-to-back to both hit their 300th home run 1: Gordon Beckham's walk-off single against the Cubs

Some interesting material between the lines
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) The Nick Massett who owns a 2.29 ERA and .91 WHIP this year with only 1 HR given up in a hitters park? After we traded him he put up a 2.08 ERA as well in 2008. He wasnt all hype. Cooper's philosophy of less velocity and more command works with a lot of guys. Nick isn't one of them, as he's airing it out for the Reds and throws some pretty filthy stuff. His fastball is in the 95 mph range with a lot of movement.

3.5 games back
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 05:53 AM) I sure hope not. I really think this club has a chance to be one of the more complete ballclubs we've had in a long time. We have the usual mashers in Dye, Thome and Paulie, and even more so if CQ can come back relatively healthy. We have some slap hitters in Podsednik and Getz, and some line drive hitters in Alexei, AJ, and Beckham. I really like how the offense in balanced. The pitching staff, despite our recent troubles, is fairly loaded with Danks, Floyd, Mark and Jose. The bullpen is close to as solid as any in the league. I really think they just need some more time. To me, this club is head and shoulders above where it was 2 months ago, and I'd like to see this talent play out a bit. Sure, the role players may change a bit, and we may see a difference-maker added, but I honestly really like where this club is headed. Give them more time. I agree with this...it's just a matter of getting CQ back and finding someone to keep us in games from the 5th starter spot.

B.J. Ryan released
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) Depends on the price. He made $12 million last year. THe cubs cant really afford more than a few million right now. They'd have to pay him league minimum. Tribune's reporting that the Cubs are definitely interested.

Looks like Cubs got a break, as Reed Johnson trapped that ball. Tough call though
-
2009 Cubs thread
The top of the 9th in this game has been crazy, with Piniella putting Marshall into LF for a batter and then Johnson with a stumbling catch. Have to hope the momentum doesn't carry over into the bottom of the inning.

Your 2011 Chicago White Sox
I like these threads, but of all organizations, we should know that prospects don't always pan out. I'll say right now that I bet either Mitchell or JorDanks won't make it as an everyday starter with the Sox.
