  1. Jim, any idea what's up with Delmon Young. Sounds like a serious family matter. Hope his family is ok, as they seemed very cool when MLB Network showed that amazing documentary on the family.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 01:35 AM) Come on, Konerko, Thome and JD are the goofsters. Note, I love those guys to death but I think we all know they are quiet vets and AJ doesn't have anyone to goof around with. I figured the Sox had learned a thing or two about 2007 but apparently not. Yeah, that does seem like a very serious dugout besides for AJP and Buehrle. Fields is scary serious, and Getz seems quiet.
  3. I remember seeing Hernandez last year during the college tournament, and I was extremely impressed with him. Not sure how he's doing this year.
  4. Here's some possible names. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/colle...008/266412.html
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2009 -> 01:27 AM) Is there a Strasbourg equivalent next year? Nothing I've heard of, but I'll do some research. What day is the draft this year again?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:24 AM) The Sox are 2 games out. I just hope KW doesn't let this get away from him and tries to fix this asap. 83 or 84 wins and a hot October, KW can pat himself on the back again. Who's worse than the Sox in the AL Central? It seems we just don't match-up well in the division this year, especially with seemingly a lot of young players on opposing teams coming into their own (Verlander, Greinke, hell Joe Mauer, Choo, Lillibridge).
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:23 AM) Oh, I figured we'd see regression from Danks and Floyd as they were both young and pitched a lot of innings. I expected to see less regression in Floyd cause he had a longer history of throwing innings, but I expected regression either way and I think the Sox had to have as well. Which is why I b****ed and moaned about what the Sox had in the back of the rotation to start the season and of course anyone with a brain b****ed and moaned about CF cause we all know that was a joke. I know I got ridiculed for my Floyd hate last year, but everything about his numbers showed he'd really struggle this year. He led the league in unearned runs, which can be a scary stat.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:22 AM) Yep and I think thats a really bad thing. Than again, I was one of the only people that still liked Cabrera by seasons end. And I thought Swisher brought a positive attitude (at least to what we saw) in the dugout. These players must be miserable this year, as there's no smiles or anything. Is the highlight of the year really going to be the 2nd week of the season when Dye/PK hit #300? This season has a chance to get out of hand really quickly.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:20 AM) It just doesn't make sense to me though. At the same time, the Sox were going to have a problem when we were counting on Contreras and Colon without a true plan B in the back of the rotation. Still, this division is so bad that its winnable and I almost think thats why the Sox didn't go into a full rebuilding mode this year or at least a really ballsy retooling period (where we relied very heavily on young players). Someone made a good point the other day: the 2008 Sox were not supposed to compete.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:20 AM) It's May 15th... I like Aaron Hill...just happy he's healthy. I'll root for this Toronto team when they're not facing the Sox. It's scary how much they remind me of the 2005 Sox.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:18 AM) I just wonder why Ozzie hasn't snapped. But I think it might be because he realizes how laughable his everyday lineup has been most of the year. Either way, something has to happen and fast, imo, to get this s*** back together. When you have the same cast of characters for a few seasons, how is snapping going to get them going? They've seen it and heard it all from him. How come no one has mentioned that maybe our pitchers are just dead tired from last year, as they had to throw a ton of innings and made a few starts on short rest (well worth it at the time)?
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:17 AM) I should start scouting who the top pick in next years draft is going to be, haha. Already thinking about that. I have a vision of the 7th pick in the draft. Teams that should be worse, with regards to record, are Pittsburgh, San Diego, Houston, Washington and Baltimore.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:15 AM) I want to know what the f*** is up with Guillen. Aside from getting tossed in the Tribe game for protecting the Indians players he hasn't done a f***ing thing. I wonder if he's quietly pissed about what he was handed this season? That or the Sox brass has another plan in mind and is truthfully planning on tearing things apart and going into a rebuilding mode for at least this season. I shared this in chat, but Ozzie and KW disagree on going young right now. KW wants to see an infusion of young players on the roster, and Ozzie wants to ride it out with the veterans for a while longer. This was perfectly illustrated in his Beckham/Poreda comments.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) I woudln't exactly say that danks has had a nightmare season. One bad start and I do recall quite a few people expecting Quentin to have a bit of a rebound. Wrist injuries are tough to come back from, plus his swing doesn't look near as quick as it did last season. I expect Floyd to get his s*** together though, same with Alexei and Quentin. I actually think Alexei will be just fine. Of the 4, he's the one I think has the best chance of matching last year's numbers. Gavin, of course, scares the hell out of me.
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:12 AM) He is the least of the worries on this team. Losing to Toronto isn't problem. The problem with this team is the corpseball mentality. If you're referring to Ozzie, isn't he responsible for some of that? If he's supposed to be a great motivator, then how in the hell is this team so flat to start every game. FWIW, this has been Ozzie's best year at handling the pitchers. He's had a good sense of the games we're competitive in.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) I still think the best strategy is turning Fields to a team in need of a 3rd baseman that has a nice looking pitching prospect that is still raw or has some question-marks but upside. Maybe even a failed first round selection or something along those lines. To be honest, I don't think he has any value. If scouts know about his fastball weakness, then so would GMs that would be considering trading him.
  17. If the Sox fall out of things in the next month and end up 10 games out of 1st, I just hope they give Fields the rest of the season to show what he can do at the plate. Benching him for a day or two is ok, but when your team is not going to compete for the AL Central, you have to get some young guys into the lineup to see if they can be counted on the following year.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) Fire Don Cooper Fire someone! This is ridiculous...way too much deja vu in our games this year. Carrasco's going to log more innings than most of our starters.
  19. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:05 AM) Just watching the kids develop (Getz being a solid MLB player/grinder, Nix actually figuring out, to go with his off the charts D at 2B, seriveable at SS/3B, Fields HOPEFULLY putting it together, also getting his D at 3B better, Danks taking the next step, Floyd HOPEFULLY getting back on track etc..) hopefully should be nice to watch but yea I agree were just fun to watch anymore. Hell, it's sad that I look forward to see how the Barons are doing moreso. Nix isn't exactly a kid.
  20. QUOTE (tommy @ May 16, 2009 -> 12:04 AM) Pathetic, it is 5 - 0 nobody out, off the wall double, Barajas just missed a homer. Carrasco's warming up. These 2nd year stars (Quentin, Alexei, Danks, and Floyd) are having just nightmare seasons.
  21. 5-0, Danks is getting destroyed. Broadway time coming up.
  22. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 16, 2009 -> 01:01 AM) The approach does not change from one game to the next. From the get go this team looks overmatched on certain days and they do nothing to change the tempo of the pitcher. You know based on the first four innings and many other games this season that they may get a run or two later when the game is out of reach after Broadway gets his hands on the game. I will use the Minnesota game yesterday as the kind of game the White Sox are incapable of playing. They look like they just do not care. It just feels like everything has run its course with the Sox franchise. New bleed is definitely needed, as I've never seen a time so lifeless on a regular basis.
  23. About to get out of hand....pathetic! Another game we're not competitive.
  24. This Blue Jays team really reminds me of the 2005 White Sox.
