The sad thing is I honestly believe Ozzie would rather have Owens in the lineup than Betemit. -

Is this Seattle's only trip here? It would suck to not get to face their worst pitcher. -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) And fathom...I know you are a pessimist...but it wasn't a bad trade at the time. Give Marquez some time...he'll come around. JMHO. That's funny, because I'm almost always optimistic when it comes to trades. That was a terrible trade at the time, and is even worse now with the pathetic way Betemit's being used and Marquez proving last year's numbers weren't a fluke.

Owens will be in LF -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) Time has shown the White Sox have made very few mistakes in letting players go. Right now, and you can argue about Ryan Sweeney or Chris B. Young, but Frank Francisco's about the only pitcher we have traded that would find a place on the 2009 White Sox roster. I'll gladly take Aardsma on this roster instead of some of the crap we have out there in the pen.

So Thome's getting two days off in 3 days? Makes me think something is going on with his back. This is ridiculous though...play Quentin in LF, and get Betemit in the f***ing lineup. This is the one game you better make sure you win in this series, and this is a pretty discouraging lineup. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:32 PM) And the overreactions to media quotes continues!!!! And if Anderson struggles and goes 5 for his next 40, there will be people on here that blame Ozzie for putting too much pressure on him. Hopefully Anderson's matured, and this is a non-issue.

What happened in the Cena/Edge match?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 02:14 AM) I agree that Betemit is the 1B backup and can play 3B etc, but I am not certain he is a better option that Swisher was. I have to assume that trade was more for Marquez. No, the company line was it was made to free up money for Viciedo (not exactly lighting it up right now). However, it's more likely KW just wanted to get rid of Swisher ASAP in the offseason. Hopefully he had a lot of offers and this was the best. That's about the only way to justify what seems like a pathetic haul for a guy who's hitting 4th for the Yankees.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 02:47 AM) So do you think Jerrry Owens should have been in LF last year when he returned from injury with Quentin going back to the bench? Just remember 1 more loss meant no playoffs. I don't know what Ozzie was saying in this story. He almost seems to be saying two different things. We will see. If BA continues to play well and Wise gets significant time, then something is up. Until then, this is a non story. The most controversial thing I think Ozzie said this weekend was if Beckham plays the White Sox are in trouble. This from a guy who makes out the line-up card with a guy hitting .136 leading off. The more I think about it, the more I wish Ozzie would have just not said anything about Anderson. The last thing you want is Anderson changing his approach at the plate or pressing if he has a bad game.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 11:43 PM) His homer was a solid swing, but any true power hitter would have pulled it or it hit it dead center. He's been playing well, but you summed it pretty well. He is late on almost everything, and the swing and miss routine is definitely the most troubling and aggravating. If you can't hit a 90 mph fastball right down the middle, you shouldn't be in the majors. The problem with putting Fields 2nd in the order is he mentally might be changing his approach to be a slap hitter. Fields isn't a good enough contact hitter to be in that role, and that's why he's so much better off being a slugging #6 or 7 hitter.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 12:29 AM) Fields' swing was short and quick in ST. If you remember, he was pulling everything into LF, which was a concern. As the spring continued, his swing got a lot bigger and this forced him to hit almost everything to RF and RCF. The last 2 weeks, his triples and his homer and solid strokes have all come in this direction. He has to be more quick and direct to the ball or he'll end up a very below-average 3B both defensively AND offensively. Most troubling is the "swing and a miss" routine on 84 to 98 MPH fastballs right down the pike. I also want to know what the hell was that little loopy thing Fields was doing at the end of his swing today.

QUOTE (WinningUgly85 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 11:21 PM) I don't understand BA is producing and is doing everything he should have been doing in 06. What does Ozzie not like about BA? Is is his atitude? His work ethic? I mean when it comes down to it Wise had his shot and went down in injury. If BA continues to have success there should be no need to bench him. Tony did a great job of summarizing Ozzie's though process on Anderson. He knew he might have got too comfortable in 2006, and doesn't want to see the same happen now. Honestly, with some of the question marks on this team right now, this "controversy" is absolutely nothing.
-
This is just an approach to make sure Anderson doesn't get too comfortable in the CF spot. I'm sure if he's playing the way he is now, he'll continue to get the majority of the starts. If Anderson's hitting .300 and Wise returns and gets the majority of playing time....well, we know what needs to happen.
-
I had same type of injury as Getz, and it takes a week to feel comfortable again when gripping the bat and throwing the ball. It's not even close to being the same type of injury that Konerko had. This is the type of thing which should heal quickly.
-
Good point about needing the 1b back-up. Oh, and I would have played him either at 3rd base today or find a way to play him at 2nd base. If Getz is out an extended period, we're going to have to get some offense from that position.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) It's been that way for about 10 years. I wouldn't hold out much hope. And it's been thay way during April for about 10 years as well until the Cell becomes a hitter's haven. Until that time, you have to hope to get good pitching and timely power. -
Time to promote Infante and challenge him

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) How far did Alexei fly out? About 10 feet from warning track towards left center. Off the bat, it seemed like it could have been gone. Hawk started to get excited, but quickly stopped. -
What is his point on the roster? At this point, with the way he's being used, you might as well release him when Wise is healthy and promote Nix for Owens. I had high hopes for Betemit when we got him, but you need to have him get his ABs against RHP.

Damn, I thought that was gone off the bat. Good game for Contreras and Anderson....one of the worst games ever for AJP and Dye. -

Hit a homer Alexei. Anderson's had a great series. Owens is in...don't even think of stealing. -
