  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:41 AM) We're simply not that good. It's scary how poorly we match up with Galarraga, Bonderman, Verlander, and Jackson. All four guys have nasty slider/curves against a team with a bunch of pull-happy righties. We're going to need just a monster week from Thome and AJP.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 06:39 AM) Which could be why people are clamoring for more speed? And we struggle to score runs consistently anywhere when we're not hitting home runs. You still need to be able to get a hit to score a run though, and we're 2 for our last 39 with RISP. Getz is a good example of a speed over production type hitter, and people already want him off the roster. On this home stand, we're getting killed by the long ball against our pitchers while we have a lineup with 4 or 5 players every game who won't hit double digit homers this season.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 05:29 AM) Doubtful. They're just about as bad as we are. Their starting pitching is significantly better than ours (being in the NL helps). Hopefully CQ is back for those games and that we skip Colon's start. We're going to see Zambrano, Dempster, and Wells in the series at Wrigley. We won't match up well with no Thome in the lineup against those righties.
  4. This team is entirely too pull-happy now. One opposite field hit all series. It's become a mental thing. Everyone's trying to do too much at the plate. The hitters know they're "going to struggle against a pitcher they've never seen before". This last week, the first inning almost went by the same script every time. Leadoff hit for Pods, Alexei gets him over, and then the #3/4 hitters don't get him in. After the first inning, the pitcher would then get into a rhythm and before you know it, it's the 5th and 6th innings and we haven't scored. Another theory is that this roster is just below average, and without anyone having huge years (like what we saw last year), we're just a mediocre team with no depth in our starting pitching, a great bullpen, and bad hitting. I do hope that everyone clamoring for more speed sees what happens when you can't hit the ball out at the Cell.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) Coming into '09 Pods had a resume of 750 games that said he sucks dick in CF... 31 games of adequate D hasn't changed my opinion. You do know that the season is a third of the way over? That would mean that Pods would do something so bad defensively in one out of 20 games to lose us the game? That seems quite the difficult accomplishment. He's not good out there, but we're not talking Mackowiak/Everett bad.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 03:38 AM) Pods will cost the team a minimum of 5 games if he starts the remainder in CF. No, not really. He's been fine defensively so far.
  7. The Reds without Votto have to be one of the worst hitting teams in baseball.
  8. Going off of the line score, we had one opposite field hit this entire series.
  9. BTW, we had one hit to the opposite field today. Not sure how many we had this entire series.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 09:07 PM) Beckham is NOT an automatic out, and Castro is not an everyday player. Yes I agree that BA and Getz seem to be an easy out but you need to lay off Beckham, I don't care if he goes 0-40 hes not going to be an automatic out over his career and all this is doing is giving him valuable experience. For some reason, there's some people on here that want to see Beckham fail. Maybe it's Ozzie's kids.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) I'll stand by my arguments. Colon is a joke. His line today versus a bad team again is a joke. I also believe my other two comments, but I respect those who differ in opinion on those topics. To play this badly at home against pissant teams is disgraceful. To have four automatic outs in the lineup on a given day is ridiculous. At least Lexi got two more hits today. And I'll say this greg...I don't believe Ozzie is effective as manager of this team anymore. There appears to be no motivation, and I'm so sick of him not protecting our players on the field. No retaliation calls and never arguing with the umps.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 10:04 PM) To be fair I don't think the drafting of Beckham was met with too many rave reviews here. We were still in that stage of clamoring for a toolsy HS player. Maybe I'm wrong though. We all loved it, as we should have. The Sox brass, I know for a fact, were stunned he fell to us.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) Why would you want Colon around? How can you argue Beckham has not been rushed up? How can you argue our veteran bats are inconsitent? None of our veterans are capable of carrying this team for a period of time. PK, Dye, and AJP have been pretty consistent all season. Read my post above this about Colon. And Beckham just had his best swing on the Sox. If that ball is 5 inches shallower, he has a 2 run RBI and everyone's happy.
  14. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 08:59 PM) One wrong for each, or all for one? Cause Colon definitely needs to be released. His ERA is 4.23...no GM in baseball releases their #5 starter with this ERA.
  15. Can we just change this thread to "Brian Anderson is a debacle"?
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 09:57 PM) Colon must be released. Beckham is not ready for this. Our veterans are inconsistent. wrong, wrong, and wrong
  17. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 7, 2009 -> 08:56 PM) Were we this bad in 2007? I say impossible. Yes we were worse. Remember Andy Gonzalez playing 3rd base? Our bullpen was also pathetic besides for Jenks. I will say this has the chance to go down as one of the worst home stands in recent memory.
  18. Of course...great rip by Beckham. Brian Anderson, you are a terrible freaking player. Thank you for the King Felix memory and the game winning catch last year, but get out of this organization.
  19. This is classic right here. Keep swinging at balls. Slayer has no chance against Perez.
  20. Swinging for the fences. Just demote him tonight.
  21. About to be 2 for 19 with bases loaded. Nix needs to bat for Getz.
  22. Wedge is managing like he's scared of Thome and AJP on the bench.
