  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 06:48 AM) Which is just fine by me, because he seems to be the same pitcher as Edwin Jackson, just without the publicity of a playoff birth. Any team that signs Cabrera better do a physical before it's announced, as there's a decent chance he's going to need major surgery.
  2. QUOTE (SEALgep @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 05:28 AM) MB Floyd Danks Bailey Marquez Yikes
  3. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 03:33 AM) The Georgia Tech/Penn State game was more interesting than I expected. Gani Lawal is a beast. Lawal's awesome now, he's going to be a lottery pick after this season. Hewitt's one of the worst coaches in America. He's had a ton of NBA talent on his team in recent years, and they've had nothing to show for it.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) Maybe he will be in jail if Wilder implicates him, lol. Wouldn't that be a shocker? Not really, there's a lot of baseball executives who hope this story fades away.
  5. Frankie was a much better finisher than McCamey is. The biggest issue Illini fans should have with Weber is his team's inability to hold onto the lead. Too often, his team takes the air out of the ball when leading and there's less than 10 minutes left in the game, and that has resulted in disasterous consequences the last 3 years.
  6. QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) From mlbtraderumors.com Unless KW has a master plan with free agency, he really shouldn't go through with this.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) I don't know about that. Nix was released by Colorado. The reason is he isn't very good. Lillibridge hit .220 in AAA. You basically have Getz at 2B. KW has always had a hard on for Hudson, and even KW can't complain about money now so Furcal should be considered. They still don't have anyone to leadoff and Ramirez can always play CF or even LF if Dye is moved and Quentin goes to RF, when Beckham is ready if they really plan to keep Beckham at SS. I'm still of the opinion that Alexei will be a disaster defensively at SS.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) It has nothing to do with stocking the minor league system, but more in line with having a younger team core develop together and then using the extra money to fill those holes with FA acquisitions. To be able to do all of that we needed to get younger on the MLB team and more talented in the minors. Up until a few hours ago, I thought the Sox were looking hard at Furcal and Hudson. However, after reviewing these recent moves, we have so much "depth" with regards to middle infielders that it wouldn't make sense to sign one of these guys.
  9. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) A year ago, we were looking at this offseason with a whole bunch of old guys looking at a cliff we were about to jump off after 09 when the old guys are no longer under contract and our minor leagues had nothing to provide. We resign Uribe, and all looks lost. Then some moves start to happen. Now we look like we are reloading with some talent. We have enough depth now in the middle infield that someone should stick. It also gives us chits to spend when it comes to trade. If we had this type of talent in our system last year, we would have Cabrera on our team. Its not about having a great minor league system over a great major league system its about that once again teams value cheap talent under control over expensive free agents. I would rather have a medicore year this year, and reload for a very long run of top notch baseball. Over the status quo of overvaluing the fact that we won the division in a down year. I think my comments dealt with people who are clamoring to trade Jenks for anyone listed on the AFL top 20 rankings, etc. I totally understand trading Vazquez, as there was no chance he was coming back after Ozzie called him out. I'd rather see the Sox hold on to Dye, as his production is so underrated.
  10. PEAVY WOULD NEVER ACCEPT A TRADE TO THE WHITE SOX! He's already declined a potential trade to an AL team in a small ballpark.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) We werent going to make the playoffs with the same core of players anyways, im more than willing to sacrafice one down season if it means many future good ones rather than a constantly 2nd/3rd place team. We weren't? With the return of Quentin and a possible upgrade at CF or 2B, this team would be up there with anyone else in the division. And sacrificing seasons is not something that KW and Ozzie are fit to do. Not only that, but our fan base won't be too happy with the organization if they do go into rebuilding mode.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) With Jenks, Dye and Konerko all being put on the market, though, it certainly makes for a very entertaing and surprising offseason filled with suspense and intrigue. And questions about whether or not KW's interested in competing in 2009. I swear there's some posters on here who'd rather have a highly ranked farm system than a competitive major league team. KW's improved the depth in this organization, but now it's time for him to start collecting legitimate 2009 MLB starting players.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:25 AM) Lillibridge has to be the favorite to be the starting 2B at this point, one would assume...Betemit's a defensive liability it seems as an everyday player, Nix has a ton to prove at the MLB level and so does Getz. What in the world did Lillibridge do last year to make someone even think he'd be the starter over the other 3 guys?
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:22 AM) Just curious....playing Devil's Advocate on KW. Would anyone take back Chris Young to be the everyday starting CFer (maybe we signed Furcal too to hit leadoff, don't really want Young there)...for this package we have just received? Would you rather have 3-4 fairly promising players/prospects/suspects or YOUNG? Discuss at your own convenience. Considering how awful our CF position has been the last few years, I'd take Young back for this package we received today.
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:19 AM) I would just like to say for the record that I hate this deal. I saw almost every one of Bailey's start last year, and his velocity was nowhere near the levels I had heard it was when he pitched in the minors. Unless we have some sort of info that Bailey was pitching hurt last season, count me out on this deal. Yep, I think a lot of people clamoring for this deal have bought into the hype with Bailey and haven't actually seen him pitch before.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:49 AM) I think he signs for 2 years 18 mil with an option. Is this a guess?
  17. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 03:53 AM) Has rotoworld ever said the White Sox got the better in a deal?? I mean praise the Braves for getting Javy, have they watched anything outside of his Strikeout ratio. Nope, their editors HATE Kenny
  18. In all, I'm surprised that the Braves were willing to give up Flowers for anyone not named Peavy. On the other hand, I'm disappointed that KW views Lillibridge so highly, especially after acquiring Betemit last month. KW really has his work cut out for him, as this team might need a new 2b, 3b, CF, and SP.
  19. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 03:49 AM) Homer Bailey anyone? I think Charlotte is set for next year.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) Any ideas on what he might use that money on, Fathom? No idea, but I've thought for weeks now we're the mysterious team that it's on Furcal. However, we have a huge glaring hole in the starting rotation now.
  21. I like Flowers a lot, and have heard nothing but terrible things about how Lillibridge looked this season. It will be nice if the other two players involved are top 10-15 prospects in our system. KW better use this freed up money though.
  22. Nothing official, this was from last night.
  23. If Orton struggles at home next week, fans better boo the crap out of him like they've done to Rex.
  24. Time to bench Orton....as bad of a performance as you could imagine.
  25. What a beautiful play to start the 4th quarter...not!
