Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Ok so the Sox do that. Do they then turn 2B over to a Getz/Nix platoon, and either A - Give the closer's job to Thornton B - Go out and sign a FA closer. Thornton would make a solid closer. They could sign Grudz for cheap to play 2B.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Bulls***....OC filled a major hole (albeit he didn't fit in as planned) and is going to get the Sox additional compensation. DAllen summed up my point perfectly...KW traded 4 quality trade chips that resulted in not a single player likely starting for the 2009 season.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:40 PM) Would you rather sign Hudson and give up draft picks, or give up Jenks in a deal for Beltran? Give me Beltran for a closer with a K ratio on a horrible decline.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:37 PM) Oh boy, this board is gonna be slammed the next few days. We will have one signing before the week is over for sure. And another trade before thanksgiving. Just a hunch? I really believe we'll trade for Wily and it wouldn't shock me if we blow other teams out of the water and sign Hudson.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) that would be the most logical moves the Cubs could make for their offense. Disagree, they should use every resource possible to acquire Roberts. Dunn would kill that team defensively.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
Look for Dunn to sign with the Cubs and play RF.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
Here's how you know Swisher sucked last year....we had two play-in games to make the playoffs, and he could only find the field as a defensive replacement.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
Betemit has a ton of power, and with his opposite field power, LA and NYY weren't exactly places he could put up huge numbers. A few years ago, he had ridiuclous ph numbers.
-
Swish Traded to the Yankees
Betemit was amazing in baseball video games like 5 years ago when coming up with the Braves.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Are we still talking about Swisher? No...and this is something I'm 100% sure of.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
Back to the actual trade and the ramifications, I actually hope KW holds on to Vazquez and focuses on trading for a CF and signing a 2b/SS. I'd be ok with Fields/Betemit at 3rd base.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:06 PM) Didn't he do that stuff with the A's? I'm sure....and that was when PEDs were more accessible (especially in that locker room).

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) One of the benefits of a board like this one is that there are some people who have various connections to people around the league or around the team, so we can occasionally be privy to more rumors that may have a level of truth. It's however up to each person to decide how much they want to believe. If a person makes a statement like that, then they feel like it's information that other people might be interested in but they don't want/need to reveal their sources since it's just a bloody message board. Like someone seeing a particular playing doing blow off of a stripper's chest in the locker room after a minor league game?

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Thank you Sir Balta. I don't like these types of sweeping statements. If he gets hammered every night, it doesn't really matter... but the way that statement was written, as fact, without anything to back it up, was a joke. Swisher reminds me of Kyle Farnsworth, who was too busy enjoying extracurricular activities than preparing his body for the full season.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) In all seriousness, would you like to back up this slanderous allegation? He's lives a fast lifestyle.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
Now that I know the trade is legit, I will say that PEDs was not the only issue Swisher had off the field. For his sake, I hope he cleans up his act.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) Ugh, I hate getting rid of Swish. Dammit. There better be a FA signing coming ASAP. Look for Taveras to be traded for soon.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) I'm going to look at it from the other side of the coin. While I'm not thrilled with the value we just got for Swisher, if Williams hung onto Nick, and he had a 2009 similar to 2008, the posts of "Williams had too much pride to show that he made a mistake" would be out in full force. Williams missed on Swisher. It was a fantastic idea on paper, but Swisher didn't come close to his Oakland numbers. Williams decided to cut his losses, and move on. How about we don't go after OBP guys anymore? That's not the type of player Ozzie wants, and Swisher's much better off being on the Yanks or A's.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) BS, this team's window may have adjusted in terms of contending for a series but in the past year they added young talent like Danks/Floyd/Ramirez/Quentin. I don't think there are many teams in baseball that got that sort of impact out of four young players who had never proven anything in the majors prior. I think the reality is Kenny wants to get a few younger vets to fill in though and will utilize Dye/Konerko/Swish/Javy as the bait to help get him to that point. Sorry, I mean to include compete with the usual offensive core (Dye, Konerko, Thome).

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (G&T @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Garland for OC was not a massive bust. We traded some very big chips last offseason in Garland and those 3 guys in the Swisher deal and have very little on the field in '09 to account for it. Hopefully KW can continue to make those smaller trades/acquisitions that pay off.

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) Plus we'll get 2 draft picks for OC I'd imagine. In the grand scheme of things, let's all hope this trade isn't a sign that the Sox are looking to lower payroll (rumors are out there that a lot of owners are in a lot of financial trouble with current economy).
-
Swish Traded to the Yankees
The big two trades last offseason = massive busts

Swish Traded to the Yankees
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 13, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Low OBP, strikeout out a ton. Has some power. He's basically Swisher without the walks, or Uribe without the glove. Platoon partner for Fields?

Swish Traded to the Yankees
Anyone know stuff about Jhonny Nunez?

Swish Traded to the Yankees
The fact we added Tex to it means there's more than Marquez. I'd love if we got Melky and Betemit. Betemit is a headcase, but he has huge power.
