  1. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 03:10 AM) for '09 How so? This Contreras injury really hurts this year, but it's devastating for this offseason's FA plans.
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:05 AM) We need pitching help a lot more than we need 6 outfielders. Keep this in mind....we have 3 guys in PK, Thome, and Griffey Jr. that require a pinch runner anytime they're on in a late inning, close game.
  3. QUOTE (tommy @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:50 AM) Horacio Ramirez for Class-A Paulo Orlando. Official per the score. They said Josh Fields officially sent to Charlotte and they can't confirm Boone because roster can't be at 23. Jose possibly pitched the last game for the White Sox. Why would Jose have pitched his last game?
  4. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) Does anyone think they may try 4 starters the rest of the way? Not a chance in hell
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 03:16 AM) How can you even say that? Clearly, Wise is on much thinner ice then OC is. Right now, we couldn't get rid of OC or even send him down, because then we'd have Ramirez or Uribe at SS, the other at 2B, and nobody at 3B. We can do without Wise especially with Griffey and BA. Plus, OC made up for it in a way with an RBI single the next inning. With the way AJ looked, that bunt wouldn't of made a difference. It was a total joke...making fun of the poor posts calling for Wise to be sent down.
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:50 AM) I wouldn't mind seeing Wise go down after he completely blew the bunt with runners on 1st and 2nd earlier today. Cool, can we release OC then?
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:42 AM) This game would have turned out much differently had we gone ahead 2-1 (thanks AJ, nice bunt Cabrera!) and gone to Dotel and Thornton. Completely agree...AJ's 2nd double play was the turning point of this game.
  8. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) You are right about the offense, and a lot of what you say makes sense, but the fact is Ozzie was willing to give up this game, an August game we entered with a 1/2 game lead. He knew there was a distinct chance (if not a certainty) Logan would give up multiple runs, and put him in anyways with another lefty available in the bullpen. With that move, he waved the white flag on this game and on first place (at least for now). We might not have scored anymore even if Ozzie had put Thornton in and he had thrown a good 7th inning, but at least we'd have had a chance. With Logan in, we didn't. "You play to win the game"
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:36 AM) There isn't a chance in hell Fields would clear waivers. The only way a trade of Fields would work is if it is PTBNL deal. Good point...that makes me feel better.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:34 AM) Hey, I'm only in Thailand at 836 am Sunday morning, lol. One thing I do really miss...seeing Ramirez play in person, or at least on WGN. I almost bought a Contreras jersey after the World Series in 05, I think I would spring for the $180 for an Alexei jersey, despite the fact that every time I've purchased a jersey, it has brought on the SI Cover Jinx seemingly. Ramirez is a very exciting player to watch. He has that Soriano effect where it seems like his bat stays in the zone an awfully long time and he hits the ball on the sweet spot.
  11. So, anyone else worried they'll click on soxtalk and there will be a post saying the Sox traded Fields for Paul Byrd?
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:30 AM) Heck, Jason Dellaero could probably get more outs...Cal Eldred as well. I can't believe Luis Montanez made the majors.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) I think Ozzie decided with the bullpen's workload and the fact that he needs to conserve Thornton and Dotel for down the stretch...that he was willing to sacrifice this game to teach Boone Logan a lesson and end his White Sox career...I wouldn't be shocked if he never pitches for us again. BTW, I forgot to say this, but thanks for posting more in these threads.
  14. While I disagree that this is a game to prove a point, as this was a huge game from a morale standpoint with the beloved Contreras getting hurt. However, I totally agree that this may be the last we ever see of Logan. Here's something to think about....we keep saying that we need to send some players down, as they're performing horribly. However, there's just nothing promising at all in the minors outside of Poreda. Everyone who's seen Link and Childers pitch has said their stuff is mediocre.
  15. QUOTE (TLAK @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 02:25 AM) I wouldn't mind seeing how the kid that's out there now, Adam Russell, would do for a couple of starts. He's not stretched out, as he's been in relief all day. I'd rather he try to gain velocity and pitch in the 94-95 mph range for an inning.
  16. I feel like I've been working during most of the games when he's out there, but it seems like D. Wise is a terrible outfielder. I'd go as far to say that Swisher is better.
  17. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:26 AM) Wow. Danks is a good talent, but he would have to be a starting CF in the big leagues in order to come close to the expecations many on here have for him (most of them have never seen him play)
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:21 AM) So you're on the record that you would have used Dotel or Adam Russell to start the 7th inning? Obviously, you're not advocating using Jenks (I hope). I think anyone complaining wanted Thornton to start the 7th.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:20 AM) Hey...without Crede, Linebrink and Contreras, nobody should expect the White Sox to hold off the Twins, especially with Liriano seemingly back and healthy. I agree with this...thankfully Twins waited so long to call up Liriano, as it probably saved us 3 games in the standings.
  20. You know what's amazing, as I take a step back....how quickly the buzz stopped regarding Griffey Jr.
  21. Boone's ERA is now 5.36
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:15 AM) If Russell (he of the 6+ ERA) grooves a 95-96 MPH fastball with no movement and Ortiz hits a Grand Slam, everyone's going to say, how could he put in a rookie RH reliever against David Ortiz. This was a message from Ozzie to Logan that you have to man up and get yourself out of the situation...there's about a 99% chance that is the last we will see of Logan with the White Sox this year. No, you bring in Russell to face Pedroia. As I said when it was happening, in a tie game, you have to play the batter and not for who is on deck. At this point, Pedroia is more dangerous than Ortiz.
  23. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:13 AM) Ozzie and Boone great job. We had a shot to win a game we shouldn't win and now we are back in second place. Why do the Twins never lose to KC? Meche has been pitching well lately, so hopefully he can beat the Twins. If we're only down a game after the Red Sox series, I'd consider that a moral victory.
  24. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:14 AM) Who is he supposed to bring in? Are we just supposed to pitch Dotel and Thornton everyday? You just can't do that. You got to use whats out there. If what's out there can't get it done then KW has to get somebody else. Thornton could have started this inning. He only threw to one batter yesterday after having 2 days off prior to that. See my other post to you though, I get what you're saying.
  25. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:13 AM) We're just really hurting in the bullpen right now. Whether injury or general suckiness we're struggling. There arent many options to go to. I agree with this...earlier in the year, we would have had Thornton in and Dotel warming up. Now, we have Logan in and Russell warming up. KW has really failed this pitching roster.
