QUOTE (quickman @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) this signing actaully just shows how poor our minor league system really is. if you cannot go down and get someone from triple AAA to be a mop guy then your system is hurting. Hopefully this won't hurt us. Loaiza looked like the same pitcher last night that he did for the Dodgers last season when I saw him pitch. Hopefully we don't have to use him in a close game.

Hu might be the worst player in the majors this season.

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 04:12 PM) Callis appears to need either electro shock therapy, a Red Bull I.V., a personality transplant, or all of the above. Again it has nothing to do with the actual draft but if they're trying to PR this thing on ESPN2, get someone who doesn't come off as a bored librarian. He's a boring version of John Clayton. From what I can gather, the Sox are ecstatic with this draft, as they got the one person they wanted to get in this. When you have one pick out of the first 85, you better make that pick count.

QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) Oh and by the way, in the Baseball America chat someone asked that mealy mouthed Jim Callis about his impressions of the White Sox draft. He said he loves Gordon Beckham but that the rest of the draft class looks ordinary. Which makes me optimistic. And why is that? Because I have learned to take everything Baseball America says with a huge grain of salt. More than a grain actually, a whole salt lick. Not that it matters but did anyone see Callis on the ESPN2 draft coverage, I mean come on, does the guy realize he's on tv, does he understand how to smile and not look like he's been turned to stone? This is two years in a row that he came across like a zombie. Which has nothing to do with anything, just an off the cuff observation. As always, time will tell with this draft. I feel the same way after every draft, could have done better, could have done worse, why didn't they draft a true leadoff hitter type in the early rounds, etc. etc. They really can't choose a worse representative than Callis. Will Kimmel's been doing a much better job with the college coverage.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 03:00 AM) He hasn't thrown in 3 weeks and just hit 88. Give him some time. What a catch!! What direction was the wind blowing tonight?
-
No velocity on these pitches. I hate that we have to have Jenks warming up now.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 02:46 AM) Haha. What'd you watch? What do you know? Another hit for OC. It's gotta be the leadership meter. We went to see Harold and Kumar at the cheap theater, as she found out that one of her sorority sisters is an extra in it.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 03:45 AM) Leadership! Honestly, this is the OC I remembered dominating the White Sox. Spraying the ball all over the field. Maybe Joe Cowley should get credit for turning his season around.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 02:44 AM) Speak of the devil. Don't tell me you were dragged to SATC by your wife... Ha, not a chance in hell. The only way I would have went to see that is if you told me all four of them died in the end.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 03:43 AM) Has Gavin made his 10 starts? Maybe fathom is gawn? I'm back, don't worry!
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 02:38 AM) OC! What a game! Ironic that he plays phenomenally when fathom isn't ripping him for breathing? Not that it matters at all, just pretty funny. Just got back from the movies, great game to see so far. My "leadership" tracker for OC turned his season around. As chisoxfn said in a post earlier, OC seems to be playing a lot looser and actually looks to be having fun.

Is Affirmed going to be in the luxury suites waiting to drink champagne if Big Brown loses?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 05:13 PM) Rays just drafted another Beckham, from Goergia Southern - Jeremy Beckham That's Tim's brother, I think
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) IIRC didn't Danny Wright post god awful numbers in college? Oh ya, something like being 2-16 in his career at Arkansas.
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) If he can touch 97, then there is no problem with the pick. You can't teach how to throw that hard. Obtaining that speed in this round is something I have no problem with. Exactly, I was being serious about his stuff.
-
QUOTE (Cowch @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) Well that's promising... Coop will fix him! At least his stuff is supposed to be good though.
-
QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 05:25 PM) 13 - RHP Dexter Carter - Old Dominion U He had an 8.76 ERA last season
-
QUOTE (29andPoplar @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 05:20 PM) A former Twins draftee. Seems like some of these pitchers we're taking are more "stuff" guys than results (besides O'Neil).
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) He is really up on the plate. Im more excited to see his fielding skills. I know if I played a game a day after I was drafted 8th in the MLB, I would go 0-fer and probably make 10 errors. His swing reminds me of Wil Cordero.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) Hit into a DP first time up. Horrible pick...... Oh believe me, I can't wait for the overreactions if he has a bad game.
-
QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) 11 - Charles Leesman - LHP - Xavier I've got to do a writeup, someone take over for me. He had some terrible numbers at Xavier last season. WHIP near 2.
-
Even though I don't think he's any special, I love the Danks pick. If nothing else, it will shut up a lot of people on here.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2008 -> 01:50 PM) Jose Contreras is dealing like the 2005 version. I don't know if he can keep it up, but you have to give him a lot of credit. He was given up for dead by most. You deserve props, as you were always saying he'd come around.
