  1. I saw the homer he hit today on the news....it didn't seem like he had that horrible hitch in his swing. In case you didn't see it, it was a 400 foot homer to right center on a high fastball.
  2. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 03:43 AM) Is Jon Garland's absence starting to scare any of you? Vazquez the No. 1 starter? Danks and Floyd being trotted out there time and again? Yikes. I'm not predicting doom, just hoping for the best wondering why Garland isn't still around. He had one year left on his deal....it's not hard to understand.
  3. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Mar 13, 2008 -> 03:19 AM) Well, I hope whatever reason there is for this does not have to do with Buehrle being hurt. I'd rather be pissed at Ozzie for possibly favoring Vazquez (just a random reason) than have to deal with an injured MB. The first thing that crossed my mind when reading this article was that Buehrle's more injured than they're telling us.
  4. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) Range is more important than throwing arm for CF'er IMO. Taking away gap shots can be a huge lift for a team. Of course range is more important, but to say arm strength isn't important at all is neglecting a lot.
  5. QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) The CF doesn't really need a strong arm though. Speed is more of an issue. (see Johnny Damon, Juan Pierre) I couldn't disagree more. Those two, along with Owens, see teams take advantage of their lack of arm and consistently take the extra base.
  6. The Sox would be crazy to trade Anderson right now. Especially when considering the health prospects of Quentin and Owens, as well as Dye not exactly being a sure thing to stay healthy, Anderson really should be on the roster.
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) Speaking of which, has anyone seen him make any throws from the OF this spring? Owens was also supposedly dealing with a minor shoulder issue last year. Levine did say Anderson's arm has been amazing so far.
  8. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) The flaw in your logic is KW has yet to get a CF. Of the players you mentioned Erstad was brought to be a fourth outfielder but his wondeful spring with that of the Prancer buried Anderson after Anderson won a job. Thus Erstad, the ultimate Grinder, plays just long enough to kill Anderson's season (19 AB in a month will do wonders for a young player) and render 2007 a disaster becasue of flawed KW logic on the player he brought in and handed a job to. Erstad played until the end May and did little to produce. Quintin is not a CF. Erstad was brought here to start, end of story.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 05:28 PM) Cotts put up a 4.83 ERA and a 1.45 ERA in AAA Iowa for the Cubs last year, and those numbers were virtually identical to his big league numbers last year as well (that says something both about Neal Cotts and about the quality of the NL Central). I for one really don't want to see the team trade Anderson now. I want to see Anderson get a chance to start for the big league club. It's amazing the excuses that have been made for the likes of Contreras and Crede regarding injuries the past few years, but people seem to forget that Anderson's wrist was really messed up.
  10. Bruce Levine indicated today the Sox are looking to trade Brian Anderson, and the Cubs are actually interested.
  11. No time to post the link, but Rocco's MLB career is possibly done with, and I worry about his long-term health.
  12. Projections still have it in the 60/40 range?
  13. QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Mar 11, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) His D will develop. Why do you think Crede is still on the team. Fields can't play 3B. Fields D is not that bad, especially when you consider a 2b/SS combo of Uribe/Cabrera is above average. I'd much rather have Fields dominant bat against LHP in the lineup, when that's a huge weakness on our team, than Crede on the team and Fields in the minor. The fact it's even a consideration just speaks of the pathetic personnel decisions this team has been making over the past few years.
  14. Fields won't gain anything by going to the minors. His continued development has to come by getting used to world class fastballs. He's not going to see that in the minors. He even stated in the paper that his struggles now is due in part to not being used to the 95-96 mph heat.
  15. No one ever says this, but Mark Few really doesn't coach up his team well. With the talent on that squad, there's no excuse to play to their opponent's level as much as they do. They probably have 8 of the top 12 players in that league on their team.
  16. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 06:35 PM) - The thought of Uribe as the starting 2B makes me want to vomit and doesn't get me excited about following White Sox baseball this season. A man can only take so much and this could break my spirit. - I'm a big Quentin backer but I actually wouldn't have a huge problem if Anderson won the starting CF job and Quentin started the season in AAA. Is Anderson really very different than Quentin? He's a guy who was formerly a very good prospect and has struggled in limited major league opportunities. Anderson's minor league resume isn't quite as good but you have to take the fact that he's an outstanding defender and that he plays CF into account. - This article seems to suggest that it's Owens, not Anderson or Quentin, who will be the third starting OF and that's by far the worst case scenario IMO. Two comments: 1) Owens was never not the leading contender to be the 3rd outfielder. Ozzie has said all along that if he can play the way he did at the end of last year, he'd be starting. 2) If the Sox feel like Uribe is good enough to start at 2b, then the Garland trade becomes even worse.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2008 -> 05:47 PM) I read that one and sort of brushed if off as KW trying to get the upper hand in a Crede trade. I still think there is a 90% chance Crede is gone by Opening Day. If Opening Day comes around and the team still has Crede at 3rd and Fields in Charlotte, still has Owens or Anderson over Quentin (if healthy)... then I'll be pretty upset. And I'm a pretty big Crede fan. He just doesn't fit the needs of the team right now, barring some strange happenings. I don't think Quentin is close to being 100 pct, and I think it's a big reason the Dbacks were so willing to give up oh him. I think it's more likely he's a bench player this year, and he'll be a starter come 2009. I didn't see the game yesterday, but a friend told me that Dye looked slower than ever in RF. Couple that with Swisher looking bad in CF and Orlando Cabrera looking a step slow, and he said that he's very concerned with our defense this year.
  18. No one posted this article either: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox10.article KW really needs to be fired, as this mess is just insane.
  19. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 02:44 AM) OMG! PAULUS = PWNED! f***ING PWNED! Great dunk, but it would have been nice if Dicky V acknowledged the play. You would have thought it was a lay-up.
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Mar 9, 2008 -> 12:29 AM) I am pretty sure that Cecil gambled away pretty much everything he ever earned, and he put his family in some pretty bad situations because of it Cecil is a terrible human being. Prince has every reason not to talk to him.
  21. Brian Anderson really deserves to make this team.
  22. I missed that inning....how did Thornton look?
  23. I'm thankful Lowry got injured now (hopefully he's ok). The surgery he's having is quite nasty, as it requires a s***load of stitches.
  24. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 7, 2008 -> 03:43 AM) But Fathom's point, which I agree with, is if the Sox were clearly looking for an upgrade at SS(even before the re-signed Uribe they said they were), why weren't the Halos contacted to see if Cabrera was available. Did something happen in the landscape of baseball that suddenly made Cabrera obtainable? I have to imagine Cabrera was expendable for all of the off-season, as LAA knew what they were going to target in the off-season. Thanks for making my point more clear. And it's ironic that the thing they were targeting was T. Hunter.
