QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) 2 weeks ago Crisp was garbage and now some want him? What the hell is going on? Williams will overpay for this bum and people will not care because we have our outfielder and forget what a dolt Williams is for putting us in this position. He just needs to be fired before he screws up more this offseason.

Media reports have the Cubs close to acquiring Roberts for Murton/Gallagher/another prospect. He would be just an ideal acquisition for the Cubs. I love this offseason!
-
If we're getting Crisp AND Bowden, it's very likely DLS is in the trade, and also Gio as well.
-
I saw on another board about rumors in Boston that Sox and Red Sox are talking about Crisp. Without quoting anything from the other board, let me just say.....I hope this isn't true.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) I agree that he would have to be crazy to think pitching at USCF is going to help him maximize his dollars in 2009. Rumors are he won't even be healthy until 2050. Wait, I mean the all-star break. I'll be surprised if he doesn't sign with the Padres.

Schilling wants Clemens to give up all his awards...
fathom replied to BearSox's topic in The Diamond Club
Should we demand that Schilling return his WS ring from his days with the Diamondbacks, as their best hitter was one of the most obvious steroid users in baseball history? -
Signing Prior to a one year deal makes no sense for us. I can't see why he'd want to pitch here anyways, as he'll likely choose a big ballpark when he can perform better and then get a bigger contract next season.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) The Sox have two SS's and no CF's. Cool, so after the trade, the Sox will have two 3B, two LF, and no CF.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 02:52 AM) With the number Richar put up last year and in winter ball, we need a 2b about as much as we need another 3B. /green At this point, I hope we trade Crede and keep Uribe.

I honestly don't know why other teams aren't going after Roberts if the Orioles are only asking for this type of package. I'm sure all of baseball thinks of Roberts as a juicer (even prior to the Mitchell report), but he still put up superb numbers last year.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 02:37 AM) Well I've heard the Cubs should have a deal done for Roberts possibly tomorrow for Murton/Patterson/Gallagher, but I hadn't heard that the Bedard talks have gotten very far... That would be a fantastic trade for the Cubs.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 02:29 AM) This offseason sucks ass. Wait until you know who makes a blockbuster trade for Roberts/Bedard.

Buehrle for Hamilton, Votto, and Cueto....count me in!

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 11:00 PM) Really? I thought the both were awful. Blackjack is a terrible announcer as is DJ. I don't know how you guys can like listening to that. Blackjack's the best Sox announcer I've heard in a very long time.

Ladies and gentlemen, your next Chicago White Sox General Manager.

QUOTE(Elgin Slim @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) I know his fastball was slower at the beginning of the season, but the 2nd part is BS. If he was throwing 94-95 at the highest the whole season, then he would have been crushed. His fastball has practically no movement and hitters would have teed off on him. It would have been Shingo 2005 part deux. I doubt he hit 100 this season, but from June on I'd bet that he was consistently 95-97 with a few at 98-99. Otherwise that stretch of 41 retired batters could have turned into 41 straight batters reaching base. He was using his cut fastball a lot more this past season, and he was throwing it around 93 mph.
-
QUOTE(Elgin Slim @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 07:21 PM) It has to be better than the Comcast/WGN guns. They had Jenks' fastball as low as 88-89 multiple times last season, which, judging by his effectiveness is BS. I didn't see Jenks hit 95 on the WGN/Comcast guns more than four or five times the whole season, and that was the highest reading I saw from him. If Bobby was throwing in the low 90s the whole season, he would have been knocked around as hard as JoeBlow IMO. For Gavin, The comcast readings were anywhere from 86-88 for the 2-seamer/sinker and 89-93 for the 4-seamer, which leads me to believe that the guns were 3-4 mph slow the whole season. Jenks was in the low 90s for a portion of the season. I don't know if he ever got his fastball consistently over 96 mph this seasion.

QUOTE(Elgin Slim @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 07:09 PM) On the gun on the MLB website for gameday, which I have heard is the most accurate, Floyd was consistently 92-95 with the 4 seamer(I'd watch the game on TV and look at the computer for the gun) with a few pops at 96 and worked in the 93-94 range. He'd have at least one or 2 fastballs per inning with a reading of 95-96 mph. I've heard the total opposite, and that the readings on that site were off the whole season.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) I think he hits higher than that. And I should preface my comment: If he is locating his curveball, his fastball easily an above-average pitch. Nope, he was consistently in the 90-91 mph range, and only a few times would he reach 93-94 mph. And it's not like it's a deceptive fastball (like Neal Cotts), where he gets a lot of swings and misses on the pitch.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 05:33 PM) That's not true. Floyd has a very plus curveball, and an above average fastball. If you want to talk about "plus" pitches, this is Floyd's greatest strength. Danks, I'm not so sure about. He appears to have a plus curve, but everything else appears prettty average to me. Floyd's fastball is in the 92 mph range. It's far from being an above average pitch.

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Dec 19, 2007 -> 02:22 AM) I'm a Bulls/Illini/Bears fan first and then Sox for obvious reasons...thanks for the formula. Baseball is such a slow game compared to other sports. in football and basketball, everyone on the field or court is involved all of the time. in baseball, it's basically just the pitcher v. the batter. and then maybe it's the ss to 1b while most of the players are either sitting on the bench or picking daisies in the field. You would have to have a man crush on Jon Garland to think he is special or anything more than mediocre. Anything more than mediocre? If you want to call him that, that's fine. I don't think there's enough negative superlatives in the dictionary to describe Floyd, Danks, and Garland then.

Sure, I believe Brian Roberts. It just so happens that he is rumored to be on the list of PED users from Grimsley, as well.
-
That was the worst intentional grounding call in history.
-
Why does it look like Orton is always throwing to the opposition? I have no idea how he hasn't thrown a pick tonight.

White Sox Fall/Winter League Discussion Thread
fathom replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
I'm not a big believer in Winter Ball stats, but Richar's stats are really disappointing.
