QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 05:58 AM) I'm hoping Paxson and/or Skiles get fired for this mess. Ben Wallace continues to be the worst player in the NBA with regards to production vs contract. Thanks Paxson!

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 24, 2007 -> 04:36 AM) Bama won't shoot that well from long distance in the 2nd half, book it Without watching the game, it seems like ISU is focused on stopping Hendrix. I've seen plenty of Alabama games, and the best plan of action vs them is to let Hendrix get his 25 pts, and take away Gee/Riley's outside game. -

Missouri was negative 25 with Demarre Carroll in the game. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 23, 2007 -> 03:47 AM) Frazier clearly got fouled after that rebound. These officials suck really bad. There wasn't a foul on that, but it doesn't matter. Mizzou didn't deserve to win that game. They're one of the worst coached teams in the NCAA. -

After getting a lot of calls all nights, Mizzou is just getting killed by these officials. -

This Mizzou/Illinois game has some of the worst officiating I've ever seen. The jump ball call on Mizzou was terrible, and then the non-existent travel call on Leo Lyons is as bad as it gets. -
The White Sox and Alexei Ramírez agree to 4 year deal

I like the signing, as it's very cheap. I doubt he'll be starting the season on the 25 man roster, but that's fine. -
QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) Why would Texas do that? Yeah, why get a prime time talent in Hamilton for a 24 year old minor league pitcher? Great trade for Texas. It's too bad we couldn't offer Gio and Aardsma for him.
-
Jeez, why in the heck weren't we going after him?

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 02:35 AM) Frazier needs to not see the floor the rest of the year. Play McCamey, I really don't care how much he struggles. Play him and let him improve on the court. The thing is, McCamey sucks also. -

Illinois got a ton of calls from the refs, and still couldn't win. Bramus and Pollitz are great players to watch. Fantastic finish to the Duke game. It's just too bad Gus isn't doing these games. -
QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) Don't like it... I honestly think Willis is gonna get smoked in the AL. Willis, who is significantly better vs lefties than righties, should do decent against a lot of the top hitters in the AL Central.
-
QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 21, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) for us I think Willis at 3 yr, 29 mil is quite worth it for Detroit.

This makes the Tigers trade even better.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) I ask you, on what grounds? That is: how do we, or you/DBAHO, come to that conclusion? Cuban numbers? WBC numbers? To elaborate a little: I don't know anything about the guy except he's never even been in minor league American games. I have only heard one thing about his performance and that was fathom hinting in some thread that he looked like crap with scouts or something. Tell me a little more about him, please. I am genuinely curious. (I hope that doesn't sound insulting; I'm asking with a complete open mind as I don't know anything about the guy. I am suspicious that someone can cross over immediately without minor league experience, but that's beside the point.) Some people got excited because his agent, of all people, said he was ready to play in the majors already.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) What are you talking about? Everyone in the game of baseball has made errors when projecting prospects. Does that mean they are all idiots? I'll gladly take Lastings on our squad.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) Such as Alexei Ramirez? NICE! Sweet, Charlotte needs a CF.
-
FWIW, I like O. Cabrera, and think he'll be a good player for the Sox. It's just too bad the other moves have fallen though. However, it's not my job to make sure moves are completed.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) No - that is a huge upgrade over Uribe. He probably should not have signed Uribe, but I can't say what was going on before he made that decision. I don't know what other options he had or what kind of position he would have been in if he didn't sign him. Other than that I have a hard to believing that the Hunter or MCab deals had any effect on the Garland/Cabrera deal. That should have been done either way. What's the point of having Cabrera on this team, as it stands right now. When even Ozzie Guillen is saying we have to add more talent, that's a scary testament to our talent level. I know it's only December 20th, but there's very few options out there.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) I completely agree with you and Balta. The White Sox were not going to sign Garland long-term. He is a mediocre overpaid pitcher who is a # 3 or 4 at best. In return he received one of the best shortstops in the league. That was a great trade. KW should have made sure Cabrera was open to signing an extension. The fact people consider Garland mediocre on here now is pathetic. I don't care what his numbers say, he is a pitcher that you can put on the mound every 5 days and believe you have a chance to win the game. I don't think the same can be said about our 3/4/5 this coming season.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) Worried about the Cubs already? Jebus. Where did I say I'm worried? Not one time in this thread did I make any prediction about how they'll fare next year. The analysis was only in regards to the fact that they're improving without having to use their main resources. None of those guys in the Orioles proposed trade would ever be significant players for the Cubs.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) Lost me with that first sentence. That trade was one of the better ones I've seen Kenny make. It was exactly what the team needed. If he was going to make that trade, he should have waited to make sure he could get Hunter and/or M. Cabrera. The last thing this team needed was just a band-aid, which Cabrera is right now.
-
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 09:15 PM) Linebrink and Cabrera were mistakes. And his plan based on MCab and Hunter was bad as well -- he completely misjudged the resources it would take to compete for those players. If his master plan was to acquire Cabrera, then he should have used Garland to get more prospects that would interest the Marlins. Obviously, the Marlins wanted a catching prospect in the deal. Nice of KW to have no knowledge of that.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) What exactly has KW done wrong this offseason? KW has done 3 deals this offseason; Linebrink, Quentin, and Cabrera. Clearly, if you're referring to screwups, you must think a couple of those are mistakes. Please tell me which ones. The Garland trade was just horrific. KW should have actually inquired with Cabrera's agent prior to trading for him if he was actually interested in extending his deal now. OC has no interest in that, and we traded our best chip for very possibly a one year player on a team not expecting to contend. When you combine that trade with the fact he re-signed Uribe, it shows a GM who is clearly overmatched right now. He has no grasp of today's baseball market.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) It would just give him more to follow on his closest watched team. Well, if they're playing meaningful games in July, and the Sox are 20 games out, I'm sure I'll be watching the Brewers and Cubs games more closely than the Sox games. The two teams I wanted to see not improve this offseason were the Tigers and the Cubs. If the Cubs get Roberts, to go along with the addition of Fukudome (without having to give up Pie or Hill), that will be a hell of an offseason for them.
