Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
fathom replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Padres and Pirates might be close to a trade involving Jason Bay. -
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) Oh jeez, do you think these folks with their nonsense actually care about facts, fathom? God, Bedard/Roberts are not southside bound nor will they be until they are both 35+. Please stop with the proposals in every thread about something else people. Back to the discussion. Tejada = roids and we'll get to laugh about it tomorrow when we all finally get to see the Mitchell Report. The thing is, we could make a leigitmate run at Roberts if the proposed Cubs trade is actually getting interest from Angelos, etc.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:37 PM) If the Cubs are going to get Roberts for gallagher/petrick/murton, I don't see why we couldn't land him for Sweeney/egbert/day. Murton >>>>> Sweeney Gallagher > Egbert Petrick >>>>> Day
-
Phil Rogers stating that the Cubs could possibly get Roberts for Gallagher, Petrick, and Murton. What in the hell makes Gallagher so attractive for the Orioles? He's absolutely awful.
-
QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) What a deal for Baltimore IMO. I am sorry but if Tejada can pull that kind of return, idk how some of our guys can't bring home better returns as well. I've wanted Troy Patton for a while. I wonder if Baltimore would deal him. Patton's got arm troubles already that people think will linger throughout his career.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) "Completely devoid of talent"? Uh, I don't think so. They may not be more than a .500 team, but their situation isn't even close to that dire talent-wise. It was pretty obvious to me that they just stopped trying after about June. Thome and Jenks' comments appear to support that observation. Well, good thing we gave our manager a contract extension.

If KW really wants to put a winning lineup on the field, his best way to do that would be to sign Rowand and then trade Richar and Gio for Roberts. I just can't see how teams can stand there as the Cubs are rumored to have a chance at him with a package of Gallagher and Murton.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) You don't think having Eric Patterson included in a Roberts deal is a possibility? I'm not so sure how eager Orioles organization is to acquire another Patterson.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) More importantly, does this open up a possiblity of Juan Uribe to the Orioles? I want no return, I just want him gone. Could be, but knowing them, they'll just sign Eckstein. Since they didn't get a 2nd baseman back in this deal, hopefully it means they won't trade Roberts to the Cubs.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) See fathom's post. I think this is a gamble by Houston. High risk, High reward, and the return package takes that risk into account. Yeah, I don't think it's speculating that a lot of people believe Tejada is one of the prime candidates to show up on the Mitchell Report. Maybe Baltimore got rid of him before he lost even more value.

Very, very interesting timing on this.

Tigers have one of the best lineups on paper I've ever seen.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) You promised to tell us after he signed what you were told about Fukudome. So let's have at it... I said it right away in this thread. Go back and look at the first few posts after he announced.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) Oh now come on. You say KW needs to be fired for not getting him, now you want to know why even offered him a contract? Give it a break. As with M-Cab, its always worth it to take a shot, even if you know you are long odds to get it. I never said KW should be fired for not getting Fuku (it's the rest of the offseason and last year and a half which is troublnig). I never thought he'd get him, and it appears that there wouldn't have been a match even if we did offer the most money. I think some of the facts that Levine states might not be accurate, that's all I'm saying.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Another player who for some reason believes that the Cubs have a rich tradition. To most of these guys, that's what not winning a pennant in 60 years means. I've never understood this, and I never will. I must go to sleep now. Cubs have been selling him the endorsement possibilities for months.
-
So let me get this straight: Fukudome doesn't want to play CF, and he wanted to be the first Japanese player on the Cubs. So why did we even offer him a contract?
-
QUOTE(Soxfest @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 07:19 AM) I am afraid you may be right and If that happens the off season is a total disaster. This headline just sucks: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/deluca/6927...eluca12.article

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:38 AM) Iguchi Signs One Year Deal W/ Padres. He should have taken the deal with the Rockies, as he would put up good numbers there.
-
QUOTE(joeynach @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:25 AM) Im with you let the idiot teams make idiot moves. If someone like the giants wants to give Rowand 5 Years 65 Mil to hit .275 and 18 HRs then good luck. Play your kids, move the vets, and wait for detroit to lose half their 35 year old + roster after 2008. I'm not so sure he hits 18 homers if he plays there.
-
Anyone else think we might trade Crede tomorrow, prior to the arb deadline? I know this is about Fuku, but it's the happening thread.
-
It just seems like KW doesn't have a good feel for the current market that baseball is existing in. I still cringe at the thought that he believed he would outbid everyone for T. Hunter, and that we had the prospects in our system to get Cabrera.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:01 AM) We don't know that the Sox are going to offer picks. They're going to try their damndest to resign him. Also... what do Linebrink and Cabrera do for us when we're making a half-assed attempt at winning in 2008? Yippie, we get 75 wins instead of 70. It would've been one thing for the Sox to have landed Hunter or Fukodome or Rowand and then made the Garland/Cabrera + Linebrink moves. But now we sit here with two of those three gone, and the Sox don't seem to want to go all-out for Rowand (which is probably the right thing to do, but when your putting up a BS facade about trying to compete in 2008, you can't have Jerry Owens starting). I would've much rather had seen the Sox try and offer Garland for all these teams bidding on Bedard, Santana and Haren. No -- Garland is obviously nowhere near as good as any of those three. But you're telling me the Sox couldn't pull a B prospect or two (two Gio Gonzalez' circa 2007)? Terrific post
-
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:01 AM) What happens when Rowand signs with San Diego? What does KW do then? Because he has failed time and time again this offseason and it wouldn't surprise me if failed on the guy that WANTS to play here! If that happens.. and i was Mr. Reinsdorf, i would seriously consider moving on to a new GM... If Rowand wanted to play here, he would have signed the 4 year deal we offered.
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:56 AM) Money wise, it was basically (as someone pointed out) Garland for Cabrera and Linebrink, addressing two major holes. Plus even if Cabrera doesn't re-sign (and I think he may, mid-season, depending on how things go), Cabrera will fetch more picks that Garland would have. Don't get me wrong, I still think the Sox have a shaky back end of the rotation. But overall, I think it was a positive trade. I much rather would trade for prospects that have shown ability in the minors than to pile up draft picks. As things stand right now, with Uribe and Crede still on the team, and lacking a CF, the Garland trade was a disaster. Hell, I still wish we traded him for 2 strong prospects we could have included in a deal to get Cabrera and Willis. If KW had this master plan of acquiring Hunter and Cabrera, he should have made sure he had the type of players the Marlins were looking for (catcher).

4/48....looks like we couldn't even make the Cubs outbid us.
