  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) considering the dollars for sure....fathom i know youve been advocating a hamilton acquisition....i like the idea, but what do you think it would take it get it done? it seems to me the reds are in a win now mode...and in the NL i certainly dont blame them...one or two acquisitions can put you in the thick of things (am i the only one who thinks houston actually has a shot...tejada lee and berkman is a pretty solid core, especially pence comes back strong)...but what do we have to offer them? they will undoubtedly want major league ready pitching, but what ready pitching can we afford to give them without crippling our own staff? No idea, but I'm sure they'd be interested in Danks or Gio.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) Cowley is the new bombarder. His accuracy rate is far worse than the previous bombarder Bruce Levine. Take anything he says with a grain of salt. Are you looking forward to seeing Rowand face Peavy 6 times next year as much as I am?
  3. I'll be honest, there's one guy on the Sox who I really don't want to show up on the list. Besides him, I really don't care and won't be surprised. However, (this isn't the person I was referring to) if PK was on steroids, he should get his money back. If you see him walking around in normal street clothes, you would never think that someone with his body was a professional athlete.
  4. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:20 PM) The Pirates have Neil Walker coming up at 3B in the next couple of years don't they. I guess they could always spin Fields off in a deal for something else, or play him in LF, but you're sort of wasting his talents there. I'm not a fan of Walker's at all. At this point, KW shouldn't even consider trading Fields. You can have a 30 homer 3rd baseman locked up for the next 5 years. He's one of our few prospects in the last decade to come up and look like they can actually be a difference maker.
  5. QUOTE(kjshoe04 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:19 PM) corey patterson. I'd rather have him than Pierre, no doubt about it.
  6. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:19 PM) Now fathom why would we trade our best position prospect in Chris Carter for Quentin, if we weren't going to give Quentin an oppurtunity to start and show us what he's capable of? That would make the trade a whole lot worse IMHO. Ask KW
  7. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) If the Sox don't give Quentin major-league playing time in 2008, that trade will have been idiotic. Who said the Sox would have put Fukudome in LF? Is the plan for Quentin to be in AAA this season (he does have an option left). In that case, I think a trade of Fields + Gio or DLS for Bay suddenly sounds like a possibility. Cowley's blurb this morning said the Sox envisioned Fuku in LF. Fields and Gio for Bay would be the worst trade in the history of this franchise. I'd rather have Fields than Bay right now.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) Totally agree. His contract would probably be cheap enough at either of those positions to help the team to afford some big names while other teams have these big Torii Hunter, Aaron Rowand, and Fukudome contracts to pay off. Don't get me wrong, it would be an interesting signing with some possible high rewards. We've benefitted as much as anyone from the Cuban connection. However, I think KW is still aiming higher than a 26 year old who might be overmatched.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) I guess you and I are reading 2 different things then. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3026151 Yeah, I can't believe his agent is talking him up.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) Ramirez would be an awesome signing, especially if you made it around the same time you dealt Konerko for a few prospects. Than you wait and try and move Jermaine/Thome during the season and just get as much talent as you can (hold onto Javy and Mark since pitching is harder to find and tell them you plan on going all out in 09 when the team should have more than a few promising young players that are playing at a high level and tons of talent to go out and acquire some of the missing pieces). If we get rid of the likes of PK, Dye, and Thome, our talent level will be nowhere near good enough to even sniff 4th place in the AL Central for a long time. The problem with a fire sale for the Sox is that the foundation of young players is so pathetic to start with.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) Well. We could always sign bonds to play lf if we are worried about our offense. You bring up an interesting point about the LF spot (Bonds would be too much of a circus this season)....KW doesn't envision Quentin as a starting LF. The Sox were going to put Fuku in LF if they signed him.
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:09 PM) What if we sign Alexei Ramirez and put him in CF and bat him leadoff? CF Alexei Ramirez SS Orlando Cabrera 1B Paul Konerko DH Jim Thome RF Jermaine Dye C AJ Pierzynski LF Carlos Quentin 3B Josh Fields 2B Danny Richar That gives you 4 key components to your youth movement in Alexei Ramirez, Carlos Quentin, Josh Fields, and Danny Richar. Hopefully you can build around those guys in the near future. Speed, OBP, and athleticism - if it works out. I would much rather have and be more excited about Alexei Ramirez on this team than Fukudome. Ramirez is supposed to be nowhere near ready to play in the majors.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) Which is why I don't think we will see a trade of Konerko, even though it would be a smart move. He is no in a position where it's going to be tough to sell ANYTHING. I can't imagine JR is very happy with the way things have gone down this off-season. I said it yesterday, and it was an honest statement: how does KW still have a job? Not only does he have one of the worst teams in baseball, he also has one of the worst farm systems. There's no excuse for that with a 100 million dollar payroll.
  14. Considering our attendance directly impacts our payroll, if we go young and completely suck, season tix sales will go down, and we'll never be able to afford any of those guys.
  15. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) I think too many people are sellling Brain Anderson short. He will be a good MLB player but I'm not sure if it will be with this team. It's a real shame we completely gave up on him last year. Of course, I still wish that we would have kept McCarthy.
  16. BTW, would this be a good time again to say that the Chris Young trade severely damaged this franchise?
  17. Not a ridiculous contract for Rowand, but I'm proud of KW for not caving in and giving 5 years. KW's in a really bad position, especially in regards to public relations. With Rowand not returning, and the likely trade of Crede imminent...the casual fan is going to get just as pissed as the smart fans (for different reasons).
  18. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) God we suck. Is there anyone else left out there that we can miss on? It's a blessing, it really is. I'm as negative as it gets, and this is a positive for the Sox.
  19. I do predict we'll get another KW media rant soon.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Oh god....Coco Crisp....WEEEEEEEE Red Sox won't move him until the Santana stuff is cleared up. I'd be more concerned about Juan Pierre being on his way to the Sox. Maybe Rowand signing will allow KW to look for more creative solutions.
  21. 5 year deal, mlb.com is reporting. I've never been happier to not acquire a player. Time to get creative KW. Interesting timing as well.
  22. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) I think Tejada is in the Mitchell report and the Astros have to just say "so what we need the production and to hell with the PR". If Matsui, Bourne and Tejada live up to expectations, the Astros have the best line-up in the NL Central when you include Lee, Berkman, and Pence. That is as good a 1 through 6 as the NL has to offer. Didn't they get a 3B decent spect from the Phils and Ausmus is servicable at C. They could be headed in the right direction if they get any pitching. Bring back Roger!!!!! I'd take the Cubs and Brewers lineup over their lineup any day.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) I have said it before, and I will say it again. Mark Prior is going to someone really happy one after he leaves Chicago. Yeah, if he goes to the American League, he'll make the fans behind the outfield wall very happy.
  24. Padres or Reds will offer him a lot. I don't want him on the Sox.
