  1. I think we'll miss Garland's durability a lot. I'm stunned when people suggest the drop off from Garland to Floyd isn't severe.
  2. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 15, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) Of course, anything that would make the team better means less fathom complaining posts. I'mm looking forward to 162 days of complaining that we don't have a competent CFer. Give me a freaking break. I guess I was the only person on here who didn't want Rowand.
  3. I thought Santana showed some significant signs of slowing down last year in terms of homers allowed and velocity. Not that it matters with the Sox, as they have zero chance of acquiring him in a trade, and if Santana did become a FA, there's no way we'd outbid everyone.
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 11:59 PM) Well, they're certainly better than they were heading into the day at the major league level, but I'm not sure that comes from this trade at all. Was Valverde nearing FA? Rotoworld said he was about to get very expensive.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) Webb + Haren in a short series? Damn. And if, by chance, they keep RJ healthy enough so he can pitch game three? The Cubs best get Brian Roberts AND a new SS, because even that might not be enough against that D'Back staff. As long as Dbacks have Brandon Lyon, I'm confident!
  6. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) Hmm, not sure what to make of this deal. Adding a starter but dropping that key part of their bullpen. Somehow I'm not sure how this makes sense for either team. Especially when you factor in the Lidge deal for the Stros. I think the Dbacks are a better time now than they were heading into the day. The upgrade from Livan to Haren is substantial, while the downgrade from Valverde to Pena as closer with Qualls in the bullpen isn't that bad.
  7. For Qualls, Chris Burke, and Juan Gutierrez.
  8. Heard some rumblings today they could be players for Haren, Bedard, or Burnett.
  9. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) I had to laugh at Hendry, saying Sam Flud is one of his "untouchables" but Marmol was left off the list... I heard him the other day say that Gallagher and Fuld were the two players everyone was asking for. He's such a douchebag.
  10. Marmol >>> Nathan, when you take into consideration Nathan's upcoming contract extension.
  11. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 04:43 AM) NTC He doesn't want to leave or at least he didn't in July of last year. I think he'd look to waive that NTC to be on a contending team.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 04:41 AM) If you dealt Konerko though, there may not be many better options out there for the Sox. I mean who's available in a trade? Sexson? LaRoche maybe? Jackson? And there's not much left in FA. Personally, I think trading Thome is a much smarter option.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 04:34 AM) I don't mind trading Paulie K at all. This would be the fastest way to make this team younger and more atheletic. I like the idea of Fields at 1B and Crede at 3B for next year, especially since Crede has 0 trade value. I think trading Konerko would help this team out a lot more than trading Crede right now. We all know the team needs. If they can fill a couple of those by trading Paulie then that is great with me. Would Thome want out then? I despise the idea of playing Fields at 1b, as you're taking away a year of development at the position he'll be at for 2009. Crede would be such a mediocre player at 1b.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 04:14 AM) In the article on the Trib site regarding Rowand signing with the Giants, the GM said that prior to the signing they were listening to offers for Lincecum and Caine, but now that Rowand has signed those two guys are not being traded. Yeah, there's not a chance in hell we'd get Lincecum or Cain for PK. I really hope it's not something stupid like Winn and a prospect for Konerko.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 04:12 AM) By not signing Eckstein and signing Uribe? You guys are serious in that you'd prefer Eckstein and Uribe over what we have now? I'd rather have Eckstein at 4.5 million, not give Uribe a contract, and then trade Garland for something other than a one year SS. Hell, at least the idiots on the board wouldn't be saying we acquired a SS who can only hit 2nd in the lineup.
  16. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 14, 2007 -> 01:50 AM) I agree. Keeping Uribe around then would've also been acceptable, as he would be a great match with Eckstein as a late-inning defensive replacement. It's just another example of KW showing he has no grasp of the market.
  17. Well, this should be fun: Canseco basically said tonight that ARod has used performance-enhancers before, and the Mitchell Report is a fraud.
  18. There's really only 3 players in that entire organization that interest me, and it's 3 guys they won't give up for PK: Cain, Lincecum, Brian Wilson.
  19. I'm so happy Roberts was in this report. Have fun planning that trade now Cubbies.
  20. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) Paul Lo Duca is really in the middle of all this. His name just went from team leader to team cheater. He was one of the most despised players in baseball prior to today.....
  21. Since everyone else is throwing it out with no punishment, here's someone I'd guess did steroids: Miguel Olivo. Anyone who corks their bat obviously tries to take short cuts.
  22. Does it scare anyone else that Pods and Erstad are still out there?
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) Ok, if you are going to b****, at least do it as an informed person. Kw had him slated for cf, fuk wanted to play rf, he didn't want to displace dye, so it was another factor of why he didn't come here. At no time was he going to be a left fielder. So please put that to rest. Secondly, we should take a run at murton. Quentin mashes rhp for whatever reason and murton mashes lhp. They could be a somewhat platoon and could possibly put out almost all star levels of obp production. First, Ozzie would never platoon to righties. Second, the Cowley blurb that was posted on here earlier stated that the Sox were going to play him in LF. http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2007/12...three.html#more
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) Good post. I am not sure I would want to trade Danks for Hamilton though. Where do I sign up for that trade.
  25. QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) thome? cuz hes basically the one guy i hope isnt on the list...other than that it doesnt really matter Yep. I was watching homer #500 the other day, and that would really just kill that moment.
