  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 05:24 PM) The Trib article about Hunter, Uribe and the other topical discussions dropped an interesting tidbit near the bottom. Pablo Ozuna has been playing shortstop in the Dominican League. As I recall, he started as a shortstop. Seems like maybe they are seeing if he can be a backup there. Yet another indicator that Uribe is likely not long for the team. Ozuna is supposed to be one of the poorest defensive shortstops the minor leagues have ever seen.
  2. Best player on the court tonight has been Henderson. I've also been impressed with Nelson's offense and defense.
  3. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 04:14 AM) That call on Frazier right there was terrible. These refs have sucked both ways. No flow to the game at all. How many jump shots has Illinois actually made tonight? Can't be more than 5.
  4. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 04:10 AM) Illinois just does not have the offensive fire power to hold up in this game. And they've played some terrible, terrible D. Pruitt is a terrible help defender....it's probably the thing that Augustine did the best that no one appreciated.
  5. Chicagosports says Bourgeois signed a minor league deal.
  6. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 03:21 AM) Agreed, I think it was more situational than anything though. And that 3rd call was a f***ing joke as well. It's been called the whole game though, you need to be smarter than that. I've always believed Randle's one of the dumbest players I've ever seen on the basketball court. Nice stretch for the Illini over the last 2 minutes, as they actually got the benefit on some calls from the refs.
  7. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 03:11 AM) Two cheap fouls on Randle. Shocking. Weber must have been watching a different Randle than I have during his Illini career. You can't leave him in there with 2 fouls in the 1st half. Illinois just has such a glaring weakness at shooting guard. They're solid at every other possession. The game plan from the get-go should have been going down low to Pruitt.
  8. Brewers traded Estrada to the Mets for Mota. Two of the biggest assholes in baseball in one trade! Looks like Kendall will be the Brewers starting catcher next year.
  9. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) Would you at the very least agree he would be better utilized elsewhere on the field? Yes, he should be starting at 3b no matter what, as Crede won't be with the team in 2009.
  10. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) He claimed he really didn't get comfortable opening it up until towards the end of the season...he has some sort of mild quad or hamstring injury for most of the year that precluded him from feeling comfortable really turning on the wheels. That could explain it....his stride never seemed right when he was running.
  11. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 08:04 PM) Echoing a thought fathom has stated earlier, I have no problem with Konerko going; however, if Konerko is being traded to have Fields be moved to 1B, KW may as well be fired, because that's absolutely dumb that you have one of your most athletic players on the field playing 1B. Fields really isn't that athletic on the field. You would never know he was a collegiate QB. I'm one of his biggest fans on this site, but I was kind of disappointed in his speed.
  12. No time to link, but rotoworld says Hunter could be shooting for either 7 year deal or Carlos Lee type 6 yrs, 100 mil. For those figures, just say no!
  13. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) The only reason any of exchange is happening is because a few of us want to know why we should "book it" that Hunter will be signed by Monday when all indications are the opposite. All I want, and I'm sure all that Fathom really wants, is some explanation for that position. Well, as 29th already stated, he was wrong about the meeting not taking place last night.
  14. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Just looking at the market, could a deal swapping Crede for Brett Myers be possible? I know he is sort of scum, and had an off season, but based on his contract, he could be available, and if you acquired him early enough, he could be stretched out into the 4th starter. Just kinda thinking out loud. No way, Phils want to make him a starter (#2). I think Crede will be on the Phillies within 10 days, but we might get someone like Greg Dobbs for him.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 06:15 PM) I guess it would be a golden rule moment for you... If you are going to demand "proof" from others, it probably is a good idea for you to live up to the same standards. The whole point is that people know from what avenue I'm getting my information from. No one knows that with ssi, and since he said it was a "gut feeling" earlier in this thread, I was just suggesting to him that if it's nothing more than a gut feeling, he might want to watch the wording.
  16. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 05:17 PM) To be fair, Semrau and Carlwell are both coming off life threatening injuries that took away the vast majority of their offseason, and Jordan is a walk on. But even once McCamey takes his spot in the starting lineup, a bench of Meacham, Cole, Tisdale, Brock, and TBD based on matchups isn't a bad thing. It's a shame Mike Davis didn't redshirt though, we'll regret it ala Shaun Pruitt and Warren Carter in a few years IMO. I've said this for a month now, but Carlwell and Semrau won't be in the program for 4 seasons.
  17. I think Broadway is the leading candidate to be the long man out of the bullpen. I'll be surprised if Masset joins the big league squad again.
  18. QUOTE(FlaCWS @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:52 PM) He's a .280 lifetime hitter with a .329 OBP. Compare that to Hunter's .271/.324. They're both good for around 20 steals a year. Obviously Hunter has more power, but he also strikes out more. We already have that covered with Thome, Konerko, Dye and AJ. Hunter's a better fielder, but Crisp is no slouch in the field. Crisp is 4 years younger and would come MUCH cheaper. And like I said, we have more holes to fill and not much payroll room if we sign Hunter for 5-6 years (and don't forget we need to extend Cabrera at some point). Crisp's power numbers are significantly down over the past two seasons.
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) proof? You post stuff based on what you have "heard" all of the time, and we just accept it, why it is different for him? Do you want me to name the exact BA writer or minor league scout it's coming from?
  20. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) Probably the dumbest thing Levine ever said. Really dumb. The dumbest thing Levine ever said was when he thought that the Sox losing the first game to the Mariners in the playoffs in 2001 was a good thing, as it would help them get the jitters out and rebound for the rest of the series. The second dumbest thing might be when he reported that Alex Cora had agreed to terms with the Indians, like he had some breaking news, about 3 days after the story was reported and the contract signed.
  21. QUOTE(iamshack @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) It would be a tremendous insult to Tom Hicks and his family if Torii and his agent just decided to hang for dinner at the Hicks' residence if a deal is already complete with the White Sox. His dinner there may certainly have been a posturing move to show the White Sox he is serious about Texas, but from everything I have heard about Torii, he is a class act- I sincerely doubt he would waste the time of the Rangers owner, his sons, and his GM by being entertained for an evening when he has already committed to another deal. I have no doubt that Hunter wants to be a White Sox, but that doesn't preclude him from trying to become a White Sox on his own terms, rather than their own. I sincerely doubt anything has been agreed to, or that anything is a "done deal." Hunter LOVES the spotlight and attention though. There has been some gossip that he wanted the deal done prior to Thanksgiving. As I mentioned last night, Cowley's article seems like it could be a plant by the Sox organization to state their case if the Rangers offer him a crazy amount.
  22. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:30 PM) No, people don't know where you get your information from. You never say, it's all coy and hush hush, unless you are talking again about the Baseball America connect. If so, I would take a source inside the White Sox org. over that any day, but that's just me, again nothing personal re: your connections. Just my opinion. Nowhere did you tell him to mention how he knows this is true? Really? What does "provide some proof" mean then? I told him to not say anything unless he has some proof.....in absolutely no way did I then say that he should actually give us that proof. If I wanted to know what supporting evidence he has, I would ask him straight up: what do you know? I guess it's just a matter of semantics, and I'm sure he would share his information if he really wanted to. I wouldn't go around saying things like the White Sox are down on Sweeney and are willing to trade him this offseason if I hadn't at least heard that from some source. As you know better than anyone, there's a difference between a gut feeling and actually information. I just hope ssi has legit information.
  23. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) And exactly what type of proof should he post on a message board? I hope he's correct and I think he's a good poster. I don't know why you of all people are calling him out though. Nothing personal but he did what you do all the time, make statements about what'll happen without naming a source or providing proof. In complete fairness and for accuracy sake, he did post yesterday the meeting between Hunter and the Rangers wouldn't take place last night, and they did meet ... unless Jon Daniels is lying, which I doubt. So southsideirish was wrong on that aspect. People on here know where I get my information from. I recall in an earlier post he said it's just a gut feeling. If he actually has proof, then that's a great scoop and I hope he's correct. That's all I'm saying...nowhere did I tell him to name a source or mention how he knows this is true.
  24. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 20, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) Oh, s***. The sportswriters on my College newspaper picked him as MVP of the Cubs last season. They haven't lived it down with me yet. f***ing Ryan Theriot. Even though he was definitely a catalyst, it's comical how overrated he is by Cubs fans.
  25. I wonder if Ryan Theriot will get any votes?
