QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 03:07 AM) Would that explain his decision to try to stretch his single into a double in the 8th, with the tying run coming to the plate with one out It's that type of baseball IQ and pathetic base running that we've come to know and love.

QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 02:37 AM) Will anyone be surprised if Meyers is on this team next year? The following 4 players better be nowhere near the roster: Myers, Cintron, Gonzalez, Pods
-
Congrats to Prince on hitting #50. It's always funny when a milestone homer is their shortest homer of the year, just like when it happened with McGwire breaking the record.
-
Sometimes I'm happy Ozzie is our manager, except another good start for Contreras wouldn't have hurt.
-
FWIW, I have it on good authority that if Fields was eligible for the IL rankings, he would have been 4th (Bailey, Garza, Slowey).

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) I hope the goal is to give Griese a couple starts, let him hold over, in an effort to get Rex back on track and move him back into the starters job. This team has to try to do everything in its power to get Rex to succeed because anything else would be a severe blow to both the current and long term future of the franchise. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Remember, the back-up quarterback is always the most popular person in town. Hopefully the Bears respond well before this is a lost season.
-
I'll root for the Bears to win no matter who their QB is. However, if Griese struggles, will it be the fans rooting for Orton to come in, or will they want Rex back? As 101 points out above, there are so many other issues with this team right now. Rex has been brutal so far, but guys like Moose, Tait, etc. have been equally worse.
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 09:09 PM) Hey Mr. Pessimism. How many career starts of Greise's have you seen? Oh less then 10? Wait, less than 3!?!? Wow, at least you know what you are talking about. As I've touted countless times before, Griese is an improvement over Grossman, as you can plainly see with his 84.5 passer rating compared to Grossman's 69.3 rating. Griese also has a career TD/INT of +24 (on some rather bad teams, fyi), while Rex is a whopping -4. To say Griese is not an upgrade is to spout uneducated post after post after post. Considering my brother is a diehard Michigan fan, and Griese was his favorite player to ever play football, I've seen a good majority of his starts in the NFL. He just isn't the same player after his knee injury, and if we think he's going to be able to avoid the rush better than Grossman, we're in a lot of trouble. Like I said earlier, Turner did a pathetic job of letting Grossman go downfield in order to get a big play/penalty.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) If the Bears want to make the playoffs this season, this move was unavoidable. Maintaining Grossman as the starter, given his play, even with all the other mitigating circumstances (poor O-line Play, disasterous receivers, etc.) only made sense if you wanted to basically say "wait til next year" on Rex. And since Rex is a FA at the end of the season, that seems really stupid to me. Rex had more than enough chances to even begin to show shreds of improvement. He has not done so. End of story. The big issue is that Griese just isn't good. I put a lot of blame on Turner for not going deep enough this year, especially to Hester. It seemed like the Bears excelled last year when they could get the deep pass going, and it never worked out well when they would try to run it twice and then convert on a pass on 3rd and 6. Now that Rex is done in Chicago, and Griese isn't special, I really hope we're not anticipating Orton being the starter in 2008.
-
Terrible decision, Rex should have been given one more game. In even worse news, Tommie Harris is expected to be out a month with a knee sprain.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 25, 2007 -> 02:27 AM) I don't think that's true. Not absolutely, anyway. I like Javy enough. I'm very skeptical, though. And I'd much prefer to have Chris Young. I've always been floored by the failure of our scouts with regard to BA, though. He had such a massive hitch in his swing. I don't know how they could have ever been confident he'd hit good pitching.

Well, we can put the M.Bradley talks away

Mike Cameron is out for the year also. Please don't make the playoffs Padres. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) I remember being worried for WHARRIS when the Bears lost the Superbowl. I wonder if fathom's going to make it through game 1 of the playoffs if the Cubs win it. I'll be ok, as I know at least the Yanks or Red Sox are possibly lurking.
-
Did the Bears even try one deep pass the whole game? That was their bread and butter big play last year.
-
It's great hearing Jim Miller on Comcast analyze what's wrong with the team. Too many idiotic members of the media will go the easy route and just blame it on Rex.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:26 AM) Bradley will get hurt anyways............this team just isn't that good, and teams with an offense will kill us everytime. GB is not gonna be easy to catch. At this point, I just want them to make the postseason.
-
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:20 AM) Its a f***ing joke that we aren't seeing Bradley. He's as explosive as Berrian and is getting zero playing time. He had a good preseason too and whenever healthy Rex and Bradley seemed to have a good chemistry. Now is the time to end Davis as the slot WR, move Mush to slot and let the two speedsters try to make plays on the outside (BB and Bradley). The team doesn't believe Bradley can stay healthy if he gets more than a few snaps at wide receiver every game. That's why he's not out there.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:20 AM) So in 3 games, we can give the offense credit for... 3 points in game 1 10 points in game 2 (Hester had a TD, and one FG was on a drive of -4 yards) 10 points in game 3 The parallels between this Bears team and the current White Sox one are great.... You've got the afforementioned TJ = Arow MM = Contreras I'd like to add Brown = Pods Grossman = Uribe (there was still some support for him (with reason) heading into the season Archuleta = Erstad (we're awaiting his injury) I'm sure we can come up with some others... Urlacher = Thome Gould = Jenks Peterson = Timo

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:19 AM) I actually don't think he's been as bad as he was during his "bad" games of last year. Its just its magnified because the taem is losing (I put more blame on the WR's and horrid f***ing oline). However, at some point or another Rex deserves blame because he can't audible for s*** and doens't look like the guy that can overcome all the pressure and s*** he has to deal with every week). I just think he loses his confidence so quickly, and then he starts trying to force the ball or makes bad decisions. He got no help from his wide receivers in the first 3 quarters, but he's been miserable this quarter. My biggest beef though is with Benson....you can argue he'll be the rally starter for the opposition in the last 3 games we've lost.
-
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:13 AM) I agree to a certain extent. If you remember, early on we were getting great starting pitching for a good chunk of the season. Even with the bad offense, if we had a "good" bullpen we probably still could have hovered around .500 for a while. Then if the bullpen was "good" and several players (AJP, Paulie, Thome, Dye) actually hit, I think we could have contended. We had a playoff caliber starting rotation for a while. It was the bullpen that stunk. There's 4 stellar teams in the AL that easily won over 90 games. Hovering around .500 is a far way from being at the level needed in the loaded league.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:12 AM) Well, it's true, but "Oh, they don't have the Astros to look forward to!" is a crap statement. I didn't even come close to saying it in the phrase that you're crediting me for saying.

Not a very good sports weekend...at least ND and Weis continue to embarass themselves and sets up the inevitable Jackson/Sharpton controversy at the end of the season.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 03:12 AM) Are you freaking kidding me...Briggs was his usual stellar self. What half of football were you watching??? He was in coverage on a lot of those Owens plays before he got hurt. However, after seeing how bad Williams is, it makes me appreciate Briggs more.
-
Jamar Williams is horrific.

Can we pull Urlacher and Thome before they get hurt
