QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:02 PM) Agree and good point on the pitch count. He does look to me like he's attacking the strike zone more and that's good. I noticed that he was gripping the ball rather aggressively when he was pitching out of the stretch, but there were sometimes where he seemed to rush the pitch, and the ball came out of his hand a little funny. I'm really not sure if he hand a good feel for the baseball before he threw it.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:02 PM) The race is over guys Blame Norris Hopper....I really thought the Brewers were gaining momentum, and then that misplayed fly ball gave the Cubs the chance to comeback against the Reds, and they've been hitting the crap out of the ball since. The Brewers should have made the Pirates apologize for not playing Jack Wilson this wknd!

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) What an awful move. Where the f*** is Linebrink??????????? And it doesn't help that Texeira was out at first. Weeks has lost that team about 4 games over the last month with his defense.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) If we were in contention for something, I would have agreed. But as it was, I think leaving him out there was the right decision. However, one thing I noticed this season while "watching" his outings on milbGameday: Floyd really runs out of steam around 100 pitches, more like 90. He'll cruise along for 90 then start getting wild, which is what happened today. If he's in the rotation next year, which looks like a good bet, Ozzie has to treat him with kid gloves after pitch 90. That's exactly what I was thinking watching him there....he's basically going to be a 5 inning pitcher for the Sox if he's in the rotation. Considering that Danks is in the same mode, we better have some quality long relievers next year.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) Exactly. Punch Yost in the face? Wow. I couldn't imagine how much Brewers fans despise him. I can't believe they traded 3 of the better pitching prospects for Scott Linebrink, and then let their season rest on guys like Vargas, Ray King, McClung, etc. If he's injured, then that would be one thing. I haven't seen anything stating that he is. The Cubs are going to be able to line up their rotation now by resting their starters during the last season of the series.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) Well he couldn't work out of it. 5 2/3 innings today, 4 ER, 100+ pitches. He lost his control in the 6th. I would categorize his outing today as so-so. As you and I always talk about, he lost his mechanics/release point. It was the main reason why I was hoping Ozzie would pull him after Cuddyer's single.
-
Way to leave Vargas in, you stupid piece of f***ing crap. He's probably the worst pitcher on the roster, yet he left him in to die. Someone really needs to punch Yost in the face.
-
Is Scott Linebrink hurt? Brewers are on the verge of another one of their typical 3 run leads that turn into a loss.
-
How sad is Pods out there? Ozzie might want to get Floyd out of the game before this goes from a good start to a bad start.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) Man, Zambrano looked good that first inning. Super

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) You're wrong. 5 more years of improvement under a suppressed salary makes Young a far more valuable commodity on the trade market. The lack of actual knowledge about the current baseball industry is shocking sometimes.

It's really amazing how much has gone wrong for Milwaukee. The Braves have played sensational defense this entire series. The Brewers would have had a big inning going in the first inning, but Weeks doesn't even try to get out of the way of a batted ball, and it hits him instead of being 1st and 3rd, no outs. On the bright side, Estrada just got hurt (about 2 months too late).

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Funny how you don't mention how "good" their starting pitching has been the last month. Because their starting pitching really doesn't even matter much when Piniella isn't afraid to go to the bullpen in the 3rd inning. Lilly's been good recently, and as much as I'd like to see Zambrano continue to struggle, I never count on him doing bad. I'm definitely on the Phillies bandwagon in terms of them winning the WC.

QUOTE(SouthSidePride05 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 12:53 AM) I wouldn't be surprised if 70% of the fans in Arizona will be Cubs fans. The obnoxious Cubs fans will drown out all the D-Backs fans and it will soon be called.. in the national and local media.. "Wrigley West". If the Cubs win, a sea of blue will fill the streets of Phoenix, and all the locals who don't care, will join in.. and the media will catch all of it. I'm not ready for this madness.. That's why I really hope the Padres can't win the NL West or the Phillies win the WC.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 12:17 AM) fathom, I remember 2003. I also remember how it ended. This team is nowhere near as good as the 2003 team. Not that, that means anything in 2007. With the Sox being out of it since June, I've watched more Cubs games this year than I ever before. I don't think this is a team built for playoff success. They're lookin' good against the crap that is their division (kinda like the final month of the 2003 season), but they've looked average or worse against anybody good from the NL. Check their records against the NL east and west. Yes, I know what the Cardinals did last year. But was that the exception or the rule? How many teams with less than 85 wins win it all? And let's say the impossible happens and they do win it all. So what? We had our fun in 2005. It's not like Cubs fans will have bragging rights on us or anything. But like I said, they'll get knocked out in round 1. My main reason for thinking they can do well in the playoffs, besides for the horrible lineups the DBacks will have on the field, is that they can make it a 5 inning game with their bullpen. And as for what does it matter if they win it all? I just think things will be a lot more enjoyable if they don't.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) fathom, are you the new cuck the fubs? Just calm down. lol. So what if they're going to win the division. They'll be exposed come playoffs. Exposed as what? I never thought they were anything special, but the way they're hitting homer and the relief pitching they're getting, they're not going to be an easy out come the playoffs. And FWIW, I've been saying they were going to catch the Brewers all the way back in June. I just never knew how bad of a manager Ned Yost really was. BTW, you live in the Chicagoland area, right? Well, it's safe to say the next few weeks/month is going to be awful dealing with the bandwagoners. When they let us wear Cubs stuff to work, I'm going to have to go purchase the "Wrigley: World's Largest Gay Bar" t-shirt.
-
Good grief, this is just too funny now. Congrats to the Cubs on making the playoffs. Nothing like spending 400 million dollars to go from last to first.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 11:09 PM) Offseason to do list for Brewers: 1) Bullpen 2) 2 Decent catchers not named Miller or Estada. One of which has to be ready to start, play defense, and hit 3) After Yost is fired, release his home address to the media and encourage fans to egg his house. It will be interesting how the organization rebounds from such a disasterous final few months of the season.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 11:05 PM) I can't believe he swung 3-1. He should be fired right after Yost. He's also the genius that called for a first pitch fastball to a dead fastball hitter in Thorman. It really is amazing how every little f***ing thing has fallen perfectly into the dream scenario for the Cubs to make the playoffs rather easily.
-
Miller and that OPS around .450 is just so valuable. No chance in hell the Braves don't score this inning. Maybe it will be against the great Matt Wise.
-
Swinging on a 3-1? Are you freaking kidding me! I hate the Brewers with a f***ing passion.
-
Haha, idiotic decision to bunt. You're taking the bat out of Prince's hands by doing this.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) Who knows how long it will last. No one knows how the new ownership will spend. And like the post I just made, they have a TON of money locked up in players 3 years down the road. I just don't like the situation the Cubs are in, long term. They just better hope to make the most of their window. We're talking about the next 3 years or so. Around that time, the Brewers are going to start having to pay these young guys a lot of money.
-
Ugh, I want to punch Yost in his goofy looking face.
-
Well, f*** that. Good thing they didn't get that last run in for the top of the 10th. Why would you throw a first pitch fastball down the plate to him?
