  1. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) Not quite accepting yet, still in denial. Just have to root for the other teams in NL to be as close to 100 pct as possible. The Cubs are clearly the healthiest team among the contenders, which of course is no shock the way this season has gone.
  2. Malhom was absolutely brutal in his last start, and is following up with another horrible start. The Cubs get to face Duke tomorrow, and he'll likely be rusty and inefficient as well. WHarris....are you in the acceptance stage like I am right now?
  3. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 06:32 AM) I think the Dbacks would match up well with the Cubs. I say this because our weakness is giving up the long ball, the Cubs are not a power hitting team The Crew on the other hand would give us fits. That's a good point, but the Cubs have been hitting a ton of homers this month. Would the DBacks go with Webb, Davis, and Livan?
  4. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) How you could stomach seeing Santana mow your favorite team down once again is beyond me. Answer me this. If the Sox were playing the Cubs tomorrow, would you want the Cubs to win? I know the answer and it sickens me. That answer is the Sox, so you're wrong.
  5. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 03:02 AM) Apparently Wagner had back spasms or something. God the NL is a f***ing mess. Hopefully the Padres can catch the DBacks so they are the Cubs first round opponent. If C. Young, Wagner and Hamels aren't close to 100 pct, the Cubs have a great shot at advancing far in the playoffs. Something to look out for is if the Padres have to pitch Peavy in game 162, and he can only pitch once in the first round.
  6. What a horrible loss for the Mets tonight. Where was Wagner?
  7. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 02:16 AM) Or if it means playing a good CF, that might be a better measure, which he certainly does. He's a good outfielder, but he was nowhere near one of the best defensive outfielders in the AL in 2005.
  8. It's really amazing to see all these teams limp down the stretch due to their poor offenses. I can't believe teams like the Brewers, Padres, and DBacks didn't try to get Jermaine Dye.
  9. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 01:54 AM) Let's fly to Atlanta, get dugout seats and scream at Yost all game long. I thought Schuerholz has a restraining order for you?
  10. QUOTE(ChiSox1323 @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 01:02 AM) I don't know if this has already been discussed but does anyone else think that Garland"s defense this year merits a gold glove? Of course if Torii hunter can beat out Rowand by not playing half the year... If Gold Glove means misreading fly balls in the 9th inning or hitting the pitcher's mound with every throw home, then Rowand should have been a Gold Glove winner in 2005.
  11. Ned Yost, you are the worst f***ing manager in the history of sports. I hope you get fired and never get a job again in baseball. I didn't think it was possible, but you made me think Ozzie Guillen is a good manager. Your team doesn't deserve to make the playoffs....and shockingly, they won't.
  12. If Yost lets Miller bat here with 2 on, 2 out, I might have to get on a plane to Atlanta and have a word with him.
  13. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 21, 2007 -> 12:58 AM) And Floyds mental issues are no where near as severe as Greinke's. Didn't he miss most all of last season after having a mental breakdown? The Braves were trying very hard to get Greinke at the deadline this year, but the Royals refused to give him up. I've always thought Greinke looked great against the Sox, and then he'd just go and get destroyed by certain teams.
  14. Floyd's stuff is nowhere near comparable to that of Greinke's.
  15. I'm sure glad that Damien Miller is still on the Brewers. His .465 OPS since the ASB has just been so valuable to that team. Michael Rivera has more homers than he does since the ASB in only 3 at-bats.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 08:21 PM) I took it to mean a Mass. athlete and another guy 6'5" 276 lbs. Is it one guy in the ESPN article or 2? It's two separate people, and the one with the height/weight is the entertainer/athlete.
  17. Another inexcusable play I remembered from last night...Yost let Bush hit in the 7th, even though he wasn't starting the inning. Now, the problem I have is that he let him run on the bases instead of putting in a pr for him (with expanded rosters, this should be a no-brainer). Instead, Bush is unable to score on a 2 out double by Dillon on a play that a speedier base runner likely scores on. Just another play in one of the worst managed games in history.
  18. QUOTE(joesaiditstrue @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 06:30 PM) i just think that clevelands team as it stands right now is pretty much good enough to take the division next year, whereas we already have to make at least a handful of moves/trades, detroits bullpen isn't that great so there's a glaring weakness they have as well as Sheff seems to be unable to stay healthy (just like our DH) westbrook/carmona/byrd/sabathia right now look really really good (byrd/westbrook/sabathia are basically unhittable to our hitters, and carmona will most likely get to that point as well if this years performance is any indication) not to mention they're younger/healthier in just about every position than we are, and look where they are right now and hafner isn't even having an average year it'll be tough to stay toe to toe with cleveland next year unless we are able to make the right moves in the offseason Hafner will be much better next season.
  19. The athlete isn't the one with the height/weight listed.
  20. QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 05:51 PM) That guy who's always being himself maybe? No. And I don't think it's Schilling, even though that would be just great.
  21. Sorry I can't link the story, but there's going to be another HGH bust. I just heard it's for a well-known athlete in Massachusetts. If someone can link the story from ESPN, I'd appreciate it. Let the guessing begin....I know who I have my money on.
  22. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 06:18 AM) Am I the only one here that isn't worried one bit about the Cubs making the playoffs? Has anybody really watched this team all year? They are so not built for playoff baseball it isn't even funny. They're not at all fundamentally sound. They don't play great, or even good, defense. They struggle to manufacture runs on a consistent basis. They have no speed outside of Theriot. Does anybody really think a starting staff of Zambrano, who's been hit or miss all year, Lilly, a youngster in Rich Hill, and Jason Marquis is a championship caliber rotation? The only reason we're even still talking about the Cubs is because they're in the most pathetic division in baseball. They would've been out of it weeks ago in any other divison. Trust JFL when he says this: the Cubs will be exposed in a big way come playoff time. One of my worries is that in the playoffs, Marmol would be used 2 innings a game. No one touches him, and he might be the most dominant reliever in baseball right now. I also have no faith at all in the offense of the DBacks or Padres to score enough in an extended series to beat them. It would be real nice if Chris Young, the pitcher, could get back to his dominant self.
  23. I just wish that some posters would realize that if we have a high pick, and don't sign them....we get that same pick the next year. Also, I showed a list of recent college hitters that were drafted and made it to the pros very quickly. I believe we'll choose a college player in the 2008 draft.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 20, 2007 -> 03:29 AM) That's the point, there is no reasoning. He's supposed to hit at least 40 homers every year or he sucks. Even when he was in a slump, and when he goes in one you can pretty much lob the ball up there and get him out, his AB per HR ratio for this season was almost exactly the same as Willie Mays' career ratio. The guy is a slugger. I hope his back holds up for more games in 2008. There have been three criticisms I've made of Thome when he's got here, and I wonder if you're pointing me out with these types of posts: - he struggles against LHP, which is vital in our division - last year, he disappeared down the stretch. I think his wrist injury really prevented him from pulling the ball, as he hit only a handful of homers to right/right center during the 2nd half of the season. - and of course, his inability to produce in the 9th inning or later. I had such a smile on my face when he hit 500, as it's been what I've wished for during his stay with the Sox.
  25. I had no idea this guy, in the Linebrink trade, was doing so well. This just pisses me off even more. WHarris...this has the chance to be the worst type of baseball day possible. Cubs win, Sox win, Brewers lose, Az wins, SD loses, Phils lose. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8076
