Octavio Dotel signs with Sox
QUOTE(bear_brian @ Jan 18, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) It seems like signing Dotel - and possibly signing Colon - give us more ammunition to swing a more major trade for a lead-off hitter, a centerfielder, or more pitching. Am thinking about one of the following: 1. Crede and MacDougal to the Brewers for Bill Hall 2. MacDougal, Aardsma, Richar, Floyd, Uribe and cash to Baltimore for Roberts and Bedard. Don't laugh - the Orioles have no shortstop, need bullpen arms, would love the PR from Floyd since he is an Annapolis native, and seem determined to chop payroll. 3. Matt Thornton and John Shelby for Coco Crisp (if the Santana deal does not happen). Red Sox don't need much, but could use another lefty out of the pen. Just some thoughts. We still need more pieces to contend ... Too late

Roberts to Cubs Deal Dead
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 03:10 AM) Apparentley it isnt quite dead....seen this on mlbrumors.com TIFWIW Report: Cubs to Acquire Roberts According to ESPN 1000 in Chicago, the Cubs and Orioles have reached a tentative agreement on a trade that would send Brian Roberts to the Cubs for at least three players. It sounds iffy because no players are known but it is believed that they are holding off on announcing it until this weekends Cubs Convention. The Cubs have been known to save announcements on signings and such till the Convention. Last year, it was the signing of Jeff Samardjiza, so it is possible. Also, with the signing of Jon Lieber it would make sense they would trade a pitcher like Sean Marshall or Sean Gallagher. More on this as it unfolds... Pie or Hill better be in the deal.

American Gladiators
So I read elsewhere that the lady who lost last night, Belinda Gavin, is actually a softcore adult actress.

Roberts to Cubs Deal Dead
Ugh....great trade for the Cubs. Piniella had given up on Cedeno and Marshall, and Gallagher is nothing special. That lineup is nasty.

Konerko to the Angels?
The rumored deal on ESPN radio is bogus. Someone else would have definitely heard it.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) What happened to Boston College? Last year they were fun to watch because they were so fast and constantly moving. Watching them against Kansas in their half court offense is slow and dull. They did lose Dudley, Marshall, and Williams. The guards on Kansas are just sensational on defense. Rice is playing out of his mind, and the game's already a blowout.

Konerko to the Angels?
I could see KW and Ozzie loving Figgins. And please, no Willits!

I'm not a Kansas fan, but Darnell Jackson is definitely a stud this year. If he was on a team that wasn't as balanced, he'd be putting up huge numbers.

Konerko to the Angels?
Putting Swisher at 1B would really diminish his value.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 07:45 AM) Marquette... Marquette... I hate to be a fanboy, but damn we're tough to beat right now. Deep squad (even without Mbakwe) with a solid front-line. I don't know if I have it in this thread, but I was quietly had high hopes for Lazar Hayward heading into the year -- and damn has he become a weapon. I also hope some certain 'bashers' of a certain MU basketball player have been watching the this season... James is playing great ball right now.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) So let me get this straight. The very same people that applauded KW for not "draining the farm system to get MCabrera, now are thrilled the White Sox get Nick Swisher for these 3? I thought Quentin was the second coming in LF? The Sox made this trade with the intent on putting Swisher in CF.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
BTW, good riddance to Ryan Sweeney, one of the most overrated prospects I've ever seen.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 07:31 PM) I have two things to add although they are more just FYI and probably shouldn't affect whether the trade was good for us or not but as fans you probably want to know these things: 1. THere were strong whispers about Swisher's body a few years ago. Take that for what its worth. 2. I do know that one baseball expert was asked off the record who the biggest asshole is in the major leagues and he said Nick Swisher. Hope he's at soxfest! I've heard rumors about many of the A's players being on PEDs. At least Swisher showed last year he can do well with the new testing in place.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
Swisher played nearly 60 games in CF last year....I'm sure that KW made this move with the intent on him playing CF for the Sox. Owens will probably get some playing time in LF, with Quentin getting the majority of the starts.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) He also gets on base at a very good clip, which this team needs. More and more I like this deal. Sweeney had very little value, you know my stance on Gio, so DLS is the one that hurts. However, like Jas said, this is young, solid OF that we control for 4 years+. I like it. Swisher really should be our leadoff hitter.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 07:20 PM) And this team is still miles away from competing this season. If Swisher was the last piece for this team to be a contender then I'd be all for this. We're still miles behind Cleveland and Detroit and now we have absolutely nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing left in the system. Konerko better be gone within the next few days. Why would Konerko be gone? If you're going to trade 3 of your top prospects, you don't turn around and trade the cornerstone of your team.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics
I have no problem giving up Sweeney and Gio. Both of them are incredibly overrated. It hurts to lose DLS, but some recent rumblings about him don't make me too sad that he's gone. I'm not a big fan of Swisher, as he swings and misses an awful lot. Let's just hope he can play CF.
