QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:47 PM) And who is going to get to Marmol? The 36 year old Eyre, 35 year old Howry? Kevin Hart looks pretty good. Having a big payroll really helps in filling holes like middle relief.
-
Silly me, I didn't know he had double-switched for Braun. I now understand why Counsell was left to bat. However, why not swing away with 2 strikes?
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Hall would be a perfect by low candidate. Fathom, I still think a Count/Thornton deal could land him. Trust me, we don't want him.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:43 PM) The question, how many guys on the Cubs are going to get better? Is Soriano? Lee? Aramis? Lilly? Marquis? Zambrano should improve next season, but the innings are a concern. I personally think Theriot is the player he is right now, not much more. The Cubs have a good veteran core. And look where it got them. I just don't see the arrow pointing up, where the Brewers still have a ton of room to grow. The Brewers future bullpen is a huge concern. The Cubs seemingly have a closer for the next 5 years in Marmol.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) Are you referring to the miracle that is Bill Hall getting a hit? No, when they had Counsell come in to face a lefty, and tried to bunt three times, including with 2 strikes. It was like they had a pitcher up and were trying to advance the runner on first into scoring position.
-
Let's hope that runner they stranded on 3rd base doesn't come back to haunt them. If it does, Yost should be relieved of his duties immediately.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:40 PM) The Cubs are not going to improve IMO, they are only getting older. Zambrano is due to break down soon with his thousands of innings. After that, Lilly is the only starter that would strike fear in my heart. Their offense should be better next year. Hill's still a solid starter. I'm sure their new owner will put a lot of money into the team as well. If they were smart, they'd trade Pie in a package to get another starter.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) Hey, is that Robbie Alomar pitching for the Braves? Can you explain what the hell just happened with that AB?
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) The Brewers should own this division the next few years. Don't give me s*** for this, but the Cubs should be damn good the next few years as well with their core. What in the hell was that? Are you freaking kidding me. Why not have Dillon bat there, and try to get the run in. That was possibly the stupidest thing I've ever seen in a baseball game.

Hart is such a solid player!
-
Oh great, Chris Spurling. So Linebrink can pitch on Friday when you're losing 3-1, but he can't pitch in a tie game?
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) In Yost's defense (you may want to make the time and date that I defend Yost down because it won't happen often), an inning without Miller hitting or catching is better for the Brewers. I'm actually a huge fan of Rivera's hitting, but if you can't bring Miller in for defensive purposes, why is he even on the team? Is it so we can hear how much of a Packers fan he is?
-
Wow, huge double play. I still have no idea why you'd even risk the wild pitch if you're going to walk someone. Hit a homer here Prince, and make my day.
-
Wait, so Yost puts Rivera into the game, who's an absolutely horrific defensive catcher, instead of Miller? Is he seriously going to pitch to Renteria with a lefty on the mound? Just put him on intentionally. Who needs Linebrink and Shouse when you have King and Spurling.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) I shocked that Yost did not bring in Linebrink. This spot to blow the game has his name written all over it. You and I have probably followed the Brewers closer than anyone lately on this site. Yost better be fired the second the season ends, as he's the dumbest piece of s*** to ever manage in the majors. If he was going to only have a righty face one batter in the 8th, he should have let Gallardo bunt for himself in the 8th.
-
BTW, why in the world would you go with Turnbow in a tie game instead of Linebrink? Turnbow's blown quite a few tie games recently.
-
And it's also nice to see the reason why Geoff Jenkins has never been in a pennant race before. The Brewers veterans, like Jenkins, Miller, and Counsell have been disgraceful.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) Bill Hall should just prance around the field in a skirt, but that might be degrading to good women baseball players. Yet some people want the Sox to trade for him. I can't believe they didn't have Counsell hit for Hall and put the bunt down.
-
Bill Hall is just horrible!
-
Wow, what a terrible call on the check-swing call on Hart. Things just can't seem to go right these days. Doesn't matter though, as the Brewers might get no-hit.
-
No Sheets the rest of the way, no clue against Smoltz so far....no smile on my face today. It's just awful that the Cubs offense is peaking now with the long ball.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 07:55 PM) I'd have zero problem with Erstad coming back as a BENCH PLAYER. PLain and simple. Have him sub ocassionally at first, play all of the OF positions in a defensive bind and be a guy you go to if you have a guy go down for a week or so. Maybe plan on getting him in 80-100 games (most being as a defensive replacement...pinch runner and obviously the ocassional spot start when you just want to rest a guy). However, it has to be as a BENCH player and I honestly think he'd accept that role. I want him so far away from this organization, it's not even funny. Just like with Timo Perez, if he's on the roster, I don't trust Ozzie to use him correctly.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) I don't know where to find the splits, but I'm 99% sure that during his minor league career, his tendency has been to struggle early and then adjust. Maybe later I will look for a post on SSS backing me up, as I seem to remember Cheat having a post or three about it. You're correct, that's what everyone was saying coming into this year.
-
Needless to say, the Cubs have the long ball working for them now. Maybe Soriano will pull a muscle before the playoffs admiring a homer or looking like a jackass catching a fly ball.
-
I'm sure happy the Cubs have got to beat up on players returning from injury over the last week like Mulder, Malholm, and Duke.
