QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) I just don't think giving a manager a contract extension during one of the worst season's in club history is a very good idea. If you're going to say it wasn't Ozzie's fault, it was the players....then KW or Walker or Cooper should be fired. I just can't believe this team is so bad, and the big four, in terms of coaches, are going to be back.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 08:32 PM) I am trying to figure out which White Sox players have clearly overachieved this season. I would say Jenks, and ... maybe Wasserman for being a non drafted free agent who made the big leagues? Any other names escape me. Vazquez

QUOTE(drive like jehu @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 08:35 PM) Y'all are treating this like KW is rewarding Ozzie with an extension when it's obviously a punishment. Ozzie wants to be fired. Ozzie isn't getting what he wants until he has a more successful season. KW's extension is telling Ozzie he better shape up or he is going to be stuck with teams like this seasons for many years to come. Wrong

Clearly Guillen did not overachieve either this year but I have no problem with this timing. It eliminates any discussion of his tenure over the winter, when the onus should be solely on getting better players and fixing whatever is wrong with minor league player development. Most importantly, and many here will probably disagree but it is sr. mgmt's way of placing the blame on the players and the general manager. I definitely agree with the last point you make, and this means there better be a massive, massive overhaul of the roster.

As if the season couldn't get any worse....next thing you know, we'll be giving Pods and Erstad extensions.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) What in the hell would ever give you that impression? How many people pick a low ceiling ANYTHING with the #2 or #1 pick. It baffles me how scared some people think having a top 3 pick is. Instead of trying to find a reason to be pessimistic about it, people should be excited as hell. -

From my point of view, it's real simple....if we had lost one more game in 2002, we would have had the OPPORTUNITY to select Cole Hamels. Instead, the Phillies had a pick one spot higher, and they could take him, and we took Royce Ring. -
The Reds have Bailey, Votto, and Bruce.....that's three of the better prospects in baseball.

So, I had to listen to the top of the 8th game. The Brewers should fire Ned Yost right now. How do you not bring in Cordero for a 4 out save in that situation? Instead, you bring in a guy who's been in the minors basically all year to face Pence. It was funny hearing all the swearing at Yost on the radio with the mic close to the crowd. Yost is by far the worst manager in baseball, and is a huge reason why that team has blown 15 three run leads this year.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 3, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) Two really good pitching matchups today for anyone who's gonna be watching baseball. Sabathia vs. Santana, with the Indians trying to go 5-0 against Johan. Also Oswalt vs. Sheets in the NL. And not a great matchup like the others, but something I want to watch is Loaiza vs. Zambrano. I'll never understand why so many NL teams challenge the #8 hitters with runners on base and two outs.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 02:32 PM) BTW Jason, our Irish are going to have a really, really, really long year. Don't know if you saw any of the game. GT could have won that game by 50 if they didn't blow some easy TD chances and kept their starters in all game. Jones at QB looked like an intramural game where you put in a fast guy and tell him to run around. -
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Sisco still can't get his control over and I'll bet some of the guys he's getting away with getting counts on are guys who would be more than happy to take a walk in the ML. Ugh. I heard that Sisco was awful last night, but was helped out by a gigantic strike zone and a hungover Bulls team.

September 1st -- White Sox vs. Cleveland

Fields underachieves? He's been the brightest spot, along with Jenks, the second half of this season. -

This is the worst, most boring team I've seen. These guys don't give a f***. -
A top 2 pick compared to the 10th pick or so is the difference between Pedro Alvarez and Jordan Danks. And greg....there's a lot of entertainment in the race for the 1st pick.

QUOTE(Jeremy @ Sep 1, 2007 -> 02:39 AM) Well, we're close to the worst offensive team in baseball, we need to do something to improve the offense if we're going to contend next season. Getting Crede back and playing Fields in LF will only do so much, even if we do sign a top flight CF. I think that getting rid of one of the worst offensive regulars in the majors would be pretty helpful. Sweet....I can't wait to give up more outs bunting before a 3-4-5 that can hit 110 homers.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines No Sweeney because of too many outfielders. This is just comical right now. I guess we can't take away time from Erstad's spot-starts. This might be the least impressive list of call-ups any team will have.

It's a good thing I don't care, as that 8th inning was one of the worst meltdowns and managing I've ever seen. Ozzie did a great job of having Logan ready to face Lofton. Just release Mike Myers. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:36 PM) Erstad? After seeing the ABs by Pauly, JD, and AJ, why would you worry about what Darrin did? Because it's just pointless for him to be playing as much as he is. It's like Ozzie tries to find openings for Erstad to play. -

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) I am really looking forward to tomorrow, when we start seeing the September callups. Anything to get Erstad and Gonzalez off the field. We'll still see them on the field, guaranteed. -

Anyone who had the first inning in the "Hawk b**** about Mariotti" pool wins. On the bright side, the top of the first was the most negative I've ever heard Hawk be about a Sox team. It's unfathomable that Greg Walker has kept his job. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 11:07 PM) I don't mean to be a jerk, but why are these the most important standings at this point? Do people actually agree with Kalapse on this? Have you no pride in the White Sox? Do you actually think getting the top draft pick will help the team significantly compared to what ever first round pick we get? My god. I absolutely agree with Kalapse. It's comical to see how little value people put into having a top 3 pick. More often than not, those players end up being significant contributors in the majors.

The real question is: what inning will the first heiny bird remark be made tonight?
