  1. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:38 AM) Iguchi Signs One Year Deal W/ Padres. He should have taken the deal with the Rockies, as he would put up good numbers there.
  2. QUOTE(joeynach @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:25 AM) Im with you let the idiot teams make idiot moves. If someone like the giants wants to give Rowand 5 Years 65 Mil to hit .275 and 18 HRs then good luck. Play your kids, move the vets, and wait for detroit to lose half their 35 year old + roster after 2008. I'm not so sure he hits 18 homers if he plays there.
  3. Anyone else think we might trade Crede tomorrow, prior to the arb deadline? I know this is about Fuku, but it's the happening thread.
  4. It just seems like KW doesn't have a good feel for the current market that baseball is existing in. I still cringe at the thought that he believed he would outbid everyone for T. Hunter, and that we had the prospects in our system to get Cabrera.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:01 AM) We don't know that the Sox are going to offer picks. They're going to try their damndest to resign him. Also... what do Linebrink and Cabrera do for us when we're making a half-assed attempt at winning in 2008? Yippie, we get 75 wins instead of 70. It would've been one thing for the Sox to have landed Hunter or Fukodome or Rowand and then made the Garland/Cabrera + Linebrink moves. But now we sit here with two of those three gone, and the Sox don't seem to want to go all-out for Rowand (which is probably the right thing to do, but when your putting up a BS facade about trying to compete in 2008, you can't have Jerry Owens starting). I would've much rather had seen the Sox try and offer Garland for all these teams bidding on Bedard, Santana and Haren. No -- Garland is obviously nowhere near as good as any of those three. But you're telling me the Sox couldn't pull a B prospect or two (two Gio Gonzalez' circa 2007)? Terrific post
  6. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 05:01 AM) What happens when Rowand signs with San Diego? What does KW do then? Because he has failed time and time again this offseason and it wouldn't surprise me if failed on the guy that WANTS to play here! If that happens.. and i was Mr. Reinsdorf, i would seriously consider moving on to a new GM... If Rowand wanted to play here, he would have signed the 4 year deal we offered.
  7. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:56 AM) Money wise, it was basically (as someone pointed out) Garland for Cabrera and Linebrink, addressing two major holes. Plus even if Cabrera doesn't re-sign (and I think he may, mid-season, depending on how things go), Cabrera will fetch more picks that Garland would have. Don't get me wrong, I still think the Sox have a shaky back end of the rotation. But overall, I think it was a positive trade. I much rather would trade for prospects that have shown ability in the minors than to pile up draft picks. As things stand right now, with Uribe and Crede still on the team, and lacking a CF, the Garland trade was a disaster. Hell, I still wish we traded him for 2 strong prospects we could have included in a deal to get Cabrera and Willis. If KW had this master plan of acquiring Hunter and Cabrera, he should have made sure he had the type of players the Marlins were looking for (catcher).
  8. 4/48....looks like we couldn't even make the Cubs outbid us.
  9. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Oh please don't trade our prospects for Jason Bay. This type of article is just so depressing right now.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:47 AM) It's okay, fellas, this just puts the Cubs in a better position to compete with us. I'm thinking more and more about the Garland-Cabrera trade. I'm thinking Kenny acted much too quickly. He said he had deals on the table where we would've gotten prospects back -- hell, I don't think it's a stretch to say the Sox could've gotten Milledge for Garland and somebody else (or some cash). We're so f***ed right now. I'm gonna laugh when Kenny tries to tell the fans we're going to compete in 2008 with Jerry Owens in CF. No kidding....he really messed that up, especially considering Cabrera won't sign an extension.
  11. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:36 AM) They'll regret it next year. If this was an elite Japanese player, the yankees or the red sox would have been all over this guy. They were never metioned to even have the slightest interst in him. Yanks did have interest, but only if they traded Cabrera.
  12. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) Right now: 3rd or 4th. If they can improve CF: solid for 3rd. If they can do that and improve at least one SP slot: 3rd and in shooting distance of 2nd if either CLE or DET falters. Outside shot at a playoff spot. Twins still have Santana. With him, they're easily better than the Sox are right now. Hopefully they'll trade him and Nathan prior to the year.
  13. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) Wow. So you are giving up on the season before one pitch is even thrown? Wow. Let the first few months play out and see what happens. Why give up in the offseason, especially after the year most of our players just had. Their value isn't exactly high right now. Let's see how the first couple months play out, and see what happens. The roster, as it's currently constructed, would likely get 5th place in the AL Central. Even Ozzie knows we need help.
  14. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:25 AM) I think they will trade for Pierre. They aren't going to sign Rowand I think -- he's just to pricey for the Sox. Gio for Pierre+some money?? Haha, KW should be fired on the spot then. He should make the Dodgers take Contreras for Pierre.
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:24 AM) Disagree, but its not terribly far off. Even though the Sox are a much better team, as it stands. CLE and DET just look really tough. I love the young pitching the Giants have. They'd be fools to trade Lincecum for Rios.
  16. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:22 AM) I wouldn't be a bad deal, at all. Sadly, it will be more like 5/70 for him.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:22 AM) Chris Burke sounds pretty decent to me. I'd trade a fringe reliever for Burke (Ed Wade just loves his relievers, and with Matsui and Bourn there, Burke is basically useless to Houston), and maybe one of your SP prospect's such as Broadway and a reliever for McLouth. Then sign another reliever to replace the one you've traded, preferably from Japan (if there are any left). Burke just sucks....he would get dominated having to face Johan, Liriano, C.C. on a weekly basis. The Pirates will want more for McLouth.
  18. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:21 AM) Yeah, but signing for 4 years with the White Sox doens't mean he's any closer to winning. Yeah, after thinking about that comment from Rosenthal, the Giants might be closer to winning a division than the Sox.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:19 AM) How many has Fukudome had? I'd be happy with a 4/50 deal for Rowand.
  20. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:18 AM) Rosenthal say the Giants and White Sox are among the teams competing for free agent Aaron Rowand. Is this a bidding war we can win, especially with SF possibly willing to go 5 years ? Rosenthal said it best...if Rowand wants to go to a team for 5 years that won't win, then that's his choice (and a bad one).
  21. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:16 AM) Maybe you were, but I am sure once you saw that one man doesn't and wouldn't win us the division, things would be a different story. The last time I checked the Best player in basebal has played 3rd base for the Yankees the last few years and they have won how many World Series Championships? We have won 1. So just because you have all the big name players, don't mean nothing. the game is played on the field, not by who spends the most or signs the biggest free agents. No, it's more because I would want a future HOF on the Sox likely locked up for the next 8 years or so. He'd hit 50 homers a year at the Cell. Instead, we have to face him 6 series a season on a team with other young superstars.
  22. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:14 AM) Also there are still some good options for CF out there in a trade. Nate McLouth for one (.822 OPS last season with around 22 SB's). Luke Scott's another (although I don't know if he can handle CF). So we still do have some more options. I like McLouth, but we better get a platoon partner for him then in CF.
  23. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:10 AM) Who do you and Fathom suggest they get to play center?? I am just curious. If KW would have signed Hunter to a 5/95 mil contract you guys would have b****ed about that. Saying he overpaid. If we would have given up the farm for Cabrera, I am sure you guys would have said we mortgaed the future for one guy. It's like KW can't win no matter what he does with you guys. I wouldn't mind having Rowand back. It will solidify centerfield for the next 5 years, and I believe last year was a breakout year for him, and he will continue to put up similar numbers. Nice try, but I was on here when the Cabrera rumors hit stating that we should trade every member of our organization in order to get him.
  24. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:09 AM) Don't like it, we saw this ride before. I know Owens isn't the answer to anything, but I'd rather just see him. Here's what I was talking about earlier with a friend: I don't want to see the Sox sign Rowand/Cameron, or trade for Pierre/Crisp. If they can't trade for someone like Josh Hamilton, then just go ahead and play Owens/Anderson in CF.
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 12, 2007 -> 04:03 AM) It will be interesting to see if KW still has any faith in any of them. I hope he keeps them all. He can't get anything for them, and if they come up big he can trade them next year, because chances are they will be awful again in 2009. It's too bad we didn't have them pitch at the end of last season, in order to try and raise their value (you know, like how Aardsma teased KW at the end of 2006).
