  1. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) Pierzynski is the Sox' best player. Um, no
  2. Toby Hall makes the game of baseball seem real difficult.
  3. Some horrible, horrible base running by the Sox today.....no shock!
  4. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) what did they say? Just asking if it's possible that these guys are tuning him out, and the play-by-play guy was getting Grace's opinion on situations he was in where the team sucked.
  5. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 09:25 PM) This guy announcing the game, Dan McLaughlin who is normally the Cardinals TV guy when Buck isn't around, is actually pretty good. Anyways, it's 5-5 in the 4th and we have bases loaded 2 outs for Cintron. They raised some great points about Ozzie and his hold on this team during the early innings today. Much more interesting to hear than "it is what it is".
  6. Contreras looks absolutely horrific. He doesn't throw enough forkballs, which causes hitters to sit on his 91 mph.
  7. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 12:22 PM) That's why gambling on games can drive you absolutely nuts and why I don't do so anymore. A couple of examples fresh in my mind of games I lost.... 1. I lost $55 on Kordell Stewart's last second desperation hail mary to beat Michigan several years ago. Once second I'm about to win $50 and end up losing $55. That's a $105 swing on a stupid hail mary, according to my math. 2. I don't remember who Oklahoma was playing in basketball several years ago, but I had the dog +7.5. The game is winding down and its right on the border of the spread, going back and forth. With about 5 seconds left, the underdog (K St. maybe?) hits a shot to make it a 7 point game and Rex a winner (can't remember the amount I had bet on it). All Oklahoma has to do is inbound the ball and stand there for 5 seconds as the clock ran out But NO, they throw the ball in close to the mid-court line and some scrub dribbles twice and launches the ball toward the basket. Of course, with Rex's luck at the time, the ball freakin banks in as the buzzer sounds to give Oklahoma a 10 point win and make Rex a loser. I'm sure there are more, but those two stand out more than any others. My favorite betting victory was the Ravens/Giants Super Bowl. I put a lot of money on there being a successful 4th down conversion. However, neither team went for it on 4th down until the final play of the game, when the Giants had like 4th and 3 and the game was out of hand. Tiki rushed for about 1 yard, but since there was still about 10 seconds left on the clock and the Ravens stormed the field, the officials decided to rule it a first down so the clock could keep going. I thought for sure I had lost, and didn't even know I had won until I checked my online account the next morning.
  8. KW will overpay for some relievers this year, either via trade or free agency.
  9. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 04:06 AM) I don't know that "they" are working at it. I have heard them say Pods is working on it in bp and games. That's the second time I've seen him do it for a hit this week. Yes, yes the injuries suck and all that. There's a huge difference between the confidence, ability, and technique of 30yr old Pods and a rookie. Remember how Pods' .330 OBP cost us the season last year but the team 4.61 ERA didn't? I remember our offense being amongst the worst in the majors during the 2nd half of the season with Pods as the catalyst.
  10. No reason in the world for Jenks to be pitching this inning.
  11. That was a beautiful effort by Pods. I think jphat just got an erection.
  12. Let me just say how much I hate the Branyan pick-up for the Cards. He's the exact type of bad defense, no contact player they've stayed away from. They'd be better off just playing B. Ryan more....I think he's a good young player.
  13. The Cardinals pathetic infield defense, led by Miles and Branyan, have cost them two runs so far tonight. With Hudson possibly out for the year, I pray that if the Cubs make the playoffs, they don't face the Dbacks. That team is awful.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 03:10 AM) If you were an opposing pitcher and the game was close, would you give Thome anything to hit? I can't recall ever seeing this questioned answered no matter how many times I've asked it. I was being 100 pct sarcastic though. And no, I'd pitch him carefully. However, he's had some good pitches to hit since he's been here in the situations we've discussed, and he hasn't done any damage with them.
  15. Keeping Fields in LF the rest of this season is the best strategic move they've made all year. Who the hell cares if our 3rd basemen make errors right now. What people should focus on is that Fields in LF means no slap hitter in LF next year.
  16. Congrats to Thome for showing up in the 9th inning finally....needless to say, that wouldn't have happened if he was the tying run.
  17. DJ's praise of Erstad has been sickening tonight. First, he was gushing about how quickly he recovered AFTER he let a ball get past him. Now, he was just praising him for hustling after a foul ball that was clearly out of play.
  18. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 02:53 AM) I'm honestly asking, can someone explain to me why Fields isn't getting every rep at 3B for the rest of the year? He needs all the reps he can there, and he has been no worse defensively than Braun or Ryan Zimmerman. IF Crede proves he's healthy and capable of manning 3B this offseason then you have the entire spring training to put Fields in LF to learn. I just don't get it. Zimmerman was supposed to be an all-world defender....looks to me like he's gotten a little fat and his throws have been brutal.
  19. Anyone else remember Broadway saying he "likes to backdoor guys".
  20. AJ just threw his glove into the dugout....he's going gloveless with Broadway on the mound.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 02:50 AM) Is there a team in baseball more prone to the sudden late game implosion than the White Sox? Milwaukee Brewers....both teams have relievers who can't throw strikes, bad defensive players, and shaky managing.
  22. Wow....I want them to lose right now, but not in this fashion.
  23. So the Dodgers and Giants got letters from MLB about cooperating with George Mitchell on the 'roids investigation. I'm STUNNED that the Giants are being mentioned.
  24. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 02:48 AM) Ouch. By your description, it sounds like the runner on third was holding. He was....and Richar should have definitely made a play on the liner by Bartlett.
  25. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 02:46 AM) Cintron did not have a play at 2nd on that high chopper, first was his only play. So he throws it poorly to 2nd and the run scores. So, everyone is talking about how Cintron won't be back, but we want to make Gonzalez the utility player. My problem is that Gonzalez is so bad defensively, and he's bad offensively. Just cause you can bring a couple of gloves to the game, it doesn't mean you should be on a team's roster. I really hope neither of the guys are on the roster next year, and we find a way to get a better defensive utility player.
