I thought the young guys, especially ones who were in the minors last year, loved Razor. I have so much respect for Shines sticking up for Sean Tracey last year.
-
A certain poster in this thread blamed the only Sox playoff lost in 2005 on the crowd.

QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 09:23 PM) Couldn't agree more, they really are a fun team to watch and I love the passion of the Philly fans, borderline psychotic though they may be. It's just too bad they have zero pitching with Hamels out. However, I'm rooting for them to get the WC, and the Mets to win the NL East.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) It was Rowand's passion which put them over the top in this one. Aaron's fire lifted Utley's game to the next level. If only Jenks was on the mound for the Phillies, Rowand would have definitely misplayed a crucial fly ball in the top of the 9th.
-
I saw this thread knowing the Phillies game was close. Just now, I looked at the box score, and I was sure I was going to see that Rowand had hit a game-winning homer. Much to my surprise, it was Chase Utley with the winning hit. So, why exactly was this thread started?
-
Good for Rowand....it's great to see such a fan favorite, even though he's far and away the most overrated player in Sox history. That Phillies offense is so fun to watch.

What a terrible division. I don't understand why the Cardinals sat Duncan against a RHP, as he's the 2nd best hitter against righty pitchers. Oh well....they have some home games coming up that they have to go like 5-1 or 4-2 at worse. I find it funny that Oswalt is going to end up facing the Cards and Brewers in two straight starts, but misses the Cubs this wknd.
-
Any time the Cardinals offense wants to wake up again, that would be fine with me. Facing a guy like Albers is a game they have to win after getting shut down by Oswalt.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:34 AM) Amen. And no Cisco. No MacDougal. No Richar (sorry Richar lovers). No Thornton. No Boone. No Uribe. No Floyd or Danks. No Erstad, my god, no Erstad. That's a good list for starters. And no Walker. Give me MacDougal, Thornton, Logan, Danks from that list.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:34 AM) "Lets get the number 1 pick." It's going to be tough to catch TB, but if anyone can do it, it's these guys. Aren't we like 3 games up on them? Their offense is going crazy these days.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:32 AM) We are going to get such a sick draft pick next year. This is exactly what we need. Yep, I have no problem if they lose the rest of the year. I was happy with what we saw from Wasserman tonight...he's the type of pitch to contact, get a big double play without throwing 100 pitches per batter that we lacked this year in the bullpen.
-
Please don't bring Buckvich back next season.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) Another factor is Jerry's relationship with Bud, which I think will work against your wishes Well, if it's the first pick in the draft, the slot will be pretty high. Also, in a worst-case scenario, if we didn't sign that person, the pick would rollover to the next year.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:18 AM) So on a line drive... Owens got set up. Got behind it. Then dove for the ball. Then got up, ready to unleash his cannon arm home. Only to drop the ball. At least we know why Ozzie likes him. He played that ball about as well as Ozzie managed that game tonight. In any other organization, Ozzie would have been fired by now.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 04:01 AM) I still don't get your enthusiasm for a high pick. Take a peek at our minor league system and tell me that those making the pick are not clueless. Huge difference in the pool of players you're picking from with a top 3 pick compared to the 20 range.
-
Anyone else notice Tampa had a huge comeback win today? Seeing someone mention names like Mauer and Verlander, as high picks, got me excited about having such a high pick again.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:43 AM) the lack of extra base hits is one of this teams biggest flaws....we are last in doubles...and the difference between the #20 team (houston) and the #29 team (St. Louis), 19, is less than the difference between st. louis and us at #30, 20......we are also second to last in triples....6th in HR though....but still the 2bs adn 3bs are stats not often talked about that are significant that helps to explain a good deal of our offensive ineptitude I can't remember a single play this year where we had a runner score from first on a double.

That's the Jim Thome late inning unclutchness that the Jim Thome sucks in the 9th inning and on fan club was based on.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 03:34 AM) im starting to become a serious skeptic....like most others i want to believe in him...and he has had some good ABs....but its getting to the point where he is starting to develop a decent sample size at the major league level....this isnt to say he cant become a productive hitter...but im starting to be a bit more skeptical than i was before what i really dont understand though are the owens believers...even if he has 20 SBs It just seems like Richar would ground out 400 times in a season if he got 600 at-bats. He's fast, but not fast enouh where he's going to beat out enough infield choppers to get a batting average like Juan Pierre, etc. Basically, I'm sick of slap hitters, and want legitimate big league hitters that can get more than 20 extra base hits in a season.
-
I must be the only person, it seems like, who's not a fan of Richar.
-
Good time for Braun to show up in this series. Pinella just left Zambrano out there to die, especially with Marmol warming up in a strikeout situation.
-
Garland just gives up so many hits with two strikes these days.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 01:26 AM) You did kind of start the bandwagon, but your not the only one to notice. I got into a screaming match with my dad about Thome and late innings. He feels you can't count on him late, stats be damned. I bring that up because he doesn't even visit Soxtalk(well, sometimes) so the thought is not yours alone. I'm just waiting for him to do something to win us a game in the 9th inning, and if it goes extras.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 01:19 AM) And all 18 of those times he was un-clutch, remember that. I feel bad that I was the initial member of the "Thome isn't clutch" fan club, but I feel like it's gotten too big and the initial mission statement I had is no longer being followed.

Remember when we had the question about which player would you like to punch.....J. Estrada would be my vote.
