Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) The Sox really need a OBP guy. Sox needs>>>>Cubs missing out on other players. Oh, and add a few hundred >>> I also have never heard one source say that Fukudome will go anywhere but to the Cubs, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:44 PM) I think your getting a little ahead of yourself. I think the highest projections for Fuk are around a .385 OBP. It wouldn't bother me if the Sox don't get him. Hell, let the Cubs get him, and then not pusue Josh Hamilton, Teahan, etc.

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Thome leading off? Lots of solo homers and lots of double plays. Thome doesn't hit into too many double plays (you have to make contact for that to happen).

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) LOL. We don't necessarily need someone speedy enough to steal a bunch of bases at leadoff, just someone who could hit, but someone who could run some. Thome... lol. Of course... I realize you are kidding. No, I was being 100 pct serious.

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:25 PM) I simply don't understand posts like these. We need better players. Rowand is a great cneter fielder and a great person in the clubhouse, and look what he's done in recent years. You can't tell me you'd be happier with Jerry Owens playing center. Only drawback is leadoff. Will we get a leadoff hitter? If we can get ANYONE decent to lead off, I will be VERY happy if Rowand is signed. When you have a 3/4/5 that can hit 120 homers combined, leadoff is such an overrated position. Why can't we just have Thome leadoff?

Crede close to going to Brewers
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:21 PM) A .230 AVG with a .289 OBP and 1 steal and not exactly stellar with the glove doesn't make him a sure bet. He has shown flashes of brilliance, but a lot of guys do. He will need to improve a lot to be a contirbuting regular on a good major league team. For comparisons sake, Brian Anderson hit .225 with a .290 OBP in 2006 and most people thing he should be stocking oranges at Jewel. Don't forget that Richar will be useless against a lot of pitchers in our division (tough lefties).

Do we need a philosophical change?
QUOTE(juddling @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) in the Sun-Times De Luca mentions the Marlins were looking for a catching prospect which the Sox didn't have to offer. They were waiting for a counteroffer from the Marlins when the quick deal was announced. If that is how it happened, if you like KW or not....there wasn't much he could do. He's sitting in his room waiting for a call back when he hears about the deal. You can't make the other teams deal with you. IIRC, i read somewhere that the Sox and Hunter all but signed a deal when Hunter flew out to keep his meeting with the Angels. then...BAM...the deal is done. Again....what could KW do???? he's makes an offer..if Hunter or Cabrera came back to KW and said 'Hey..this is what i was offered by Detroit. Want to beat this??" and the Sox declined then that would be one thing but i think twice now KW thought he had a deal all but done then Poof it was gone. Sure there's stuff he could have done. It's not like Rubelo is a big prospect. He could have traded Crede for a catching prospect. Of course, we would have had a lot more to trade with if not for the stupid, in hindsight, Garland for a one year SS when we already have Uribe on the books.

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
I wish we could wait 2 weeks before deciding who to try and sign. The Mitchell Report could play prominently with some of these free agents left.

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) Rowand's a pretty good player but I'd like to see a leadoff hitter acquired, and with Quentin now on the roster, CF is the only spot for a leadoff hitter. So I guess I'd rather have Fukudome, unless there's a belief he won't be able to handle playing CF and is more of a corner. The Cubs are going to sign Fukudome!

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:42 PM) If the money were the same -- which I think it could be -- I'd much rather have Andruw Jones over Rowand. I don't think there's a chance in hell Jones will get that little per year.

Rowand offered 4 yrs/55 million from Sox
According to Bruce Levine, this is the most recent update regarding the Sox and Rowand. Also, the Sox are still interested in DeJesus.

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
QUOTE(joeynach @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:39 AM) If rowand would sign with the sox for 4 years 48 Mil would you do it? Yes

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:32 AM) Pass on him why? Because he would fill the leadoff hole and the CF hole? He would be a perfect fit. And Fath, Bailey was the youngest player in the league this year, he will improve. My brother saw him a lot in AAA, and said he wasn't topping 90 mph when he was there. I think people are really puzzled as to what happened to his velocity.

Crede close to going to Brewers
QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:32 AM) Our team is snakebit. If we trade Crede, Josh will turn out to be a sieve at third base. If we keep Crede and trade Josh, Josh will turn into a 40 homer guy every year. That said ... why not keep Crede? p.s. Rowand is going to help the Royals big time. I have no respect for Rowand if he goes to the Royals just because they would give him another year on a contract.

Crede close to going to Brewers
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:33 AM) Well with the way Fields handled LF in the last 20 games or so, I can see why the Sox may have been a bit apprehensive about giving the LF spot, especially after the debacle that was Scott Podsednik defensively. Quentin is a pretty damn good defender, and too good for LF really. Yep, and it's inexcusable that Dye's not getting shifted to LF.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
I hated what I saw from Bailey this year. His velocity basically disappeared.

Crede close to going to Brewers
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:13 AM) Where would Quentin play under that scenario? You wouldn't have made that trade....I like Quentin, but it's amazing the expectations people have for him right now.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 05:06 AM) I was thinking that to myself, what could we possibly package to get Hamilton and Homer Bailey? You won't get Bailey, but if you trade Gio, Aardsma, and Sweeney, you might get a have a chance for Hamilton.

Has Kenny Dropped the Ball...Twice?
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:51 AM) What was KW to do to get Cabrera? Maybe blame him years ago, because it would take a few years to build our Minors to match Det's offer. or he could have traded Garland for some good prospects.

Do we need a philosophical change?
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:47 AM) Thats what im saying. It would benefit us all. I like being able to move up. I enjoyed it in 05 actually. Come on, you know the last thing we need is a decrease in attendance, as it will lower our payroll.

Crede close to going to Brewers
With KW making the decision that Fields won't play LF during winter ball, and that his future is only at 3b, it's really disappointing that KW didn't have a better plan for Crede. At this point, we'd be better off to let Crede play 3b, and put Fields in LF.

Miguel Cabrera to the Tigers
QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:36 AM) What good is a farm system when we cannot sign them to a second contract? We get a guy MLB ready, he plays a couple seasons, hits his stride and then he's too expensive for us to sign. I completely disagree with this. The most success we've had with signing guys is when they're already under contract. Basically, it's Hahn's specialty.

Crede close to going to Brewers
QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:43 AM) Is Corey Hart still on the Brewers? If so, i could see him in this deal more than Hall Wow, this might be the funniest post of the night (no offense)

Gwynn Jr. wouldn't even be in the majors if not for who his father is.

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
There's some talk that the Cubs are trying to get either Bedard or Brian Roberts. If the Cubs were to sign Fukudome (which all along, I've been told it's 95 pct likely) and then trade for Roberts, you're looking at a terrific offensive team.
