Miscellaneous "MLB" Trade Notes
QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) Idk if I'd go that far. Felix is nasty. To my knowledge they finally allowed him to throw that Slider last season after outlawing it prior to that, and even still I think they limited what he can throw. Once he is finally turned loose and understands a bit better of how to pitch, he will be unreal. Lincecum I saw was the one supposedly available out of him and Cain. I love the kid personally and wasn't questioning his talent, or comparing it to anything we have...or anyone has for that matter. I was saying we'd need to deal a lot for a young kid with minimal experience. If we could get him no prob, but he I would assume is as much if not more then Johan. Sampling wise, I just wish we had another year to view him before we deal the farm for him. Stuff doesn't translate to wins which was what I should've said. I'd like to see a bit more of a sampling before I deal a GIo/DLS/+ more is all. I did see to something that scared me. I saw Lincecum is a target of the Reds if they can do it without dealing Bruce. The Giants may bite if the package started with Dunn, and continued with Stubbs/Votto and something else (perhaps Hamilton, Watson or Fischer? Idk I'd imagine they'd want one arm). The thought of Bailey and Lincecum + Harang is just a scary one in my book. Good, more competition against the Cubs then. It's better than having Lincecum in the AL.

Sox are Miggy dark horse.
QUOTE(jenks45monster @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:52 AM) Burke and Luke Scott for Crede? I'm not so sure Astros would do Scott for Crede. I wonder if they would do Burke and Scott for Crede and Sweeney?
-
The Astros are considering dealing Chris Burke to the White Sox
Ugh, please tell me it's not Crede for Burke. Burke was just pathetic last season. I know the Sox have talked to the Astros about Sweeney in the past. Sweeney for Burke would be a bad trade....but it's possible.

Decision made
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:33 AM) You think they would give him up for one year of a Boras client that's coming off of back surgery? Even if they hate him??? yes
-
Decision made
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) I don't think that will be enough for Reyes. The Cards hate Reyes right now.
-
Decision made
The Cards are very interested in Pedro Feliz.
-
Decision made
QUOTE(gosox41 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:22 AM) Do you know something? I don't doubt it only because Crede has a higher salary and is more injury prone Bob The only thing I heard today is that Fields is not being talked about at the meetings, as he'll be the Sox 3rd baseman next year.
-
Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:21 AM) Definitely not. You just have to shake your head at some things.
-
Decision made
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:18 AM) I wouldn't be stunned if Kenny could get a young impact player with a package surrounding Fields. Still, Crede is probably the guy whose on his way out. It's Crede who's on the way out....trust me.
-
Decision made
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 04:18 AM) Maybe Capuano for Crede? PLEASE, NO CAPUANO!
-
Decision made
I think Crede will be on the Phillies within the next 48 hours. They don't have much to give to us though, as I can't see the Sox going after Burrell now.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 03:57 AM) That sounds nothing at all like the Ozzie Guillen we've come to know, in terms of not being in love with the speedy guy. Ozzie made the OBP comment, and honestly, the 2 deals we've seen have helped with that. But I still think Ozzie will focus on having a speedy guy at the top of his lineup, and unless someone here wants Podsednik in CF next year, Owens looks like the default. Exactly, I know I'm not the only person on here who will believe it when I see it.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 03:49 AM) There's absolutely no way anyone could possibly believe that Quentin was acquired to be a platoon player. Not a chance in hell. If Quentin comes out and plays like crap for the first two months maybe, but so long as that shoulder is healthy, Quentin is the Sox' starting LFer or RFer come April 1st. Believe me, I hope he does play full time. I just don't think Ozzie will be able to resist playing Owens. Prove me wrong Oz!

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) Am I the only one who thinks that the reason for not dealing Konerko might not be that KW doesn't have the balls, but that no one offers the King's ransom you guys want for him? I think PK would have a ton of value on the market.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 03:33 AM) Why would he acquire him as a platoon guy? I am actually a little gun shy to post stats because my experience is that people like to twist the stats around. But anyways, in 2007 Quentin was awful vs. lefthanders. Yes it was an odd year for him due to injury. But why would they acquire a potentially high impact guy and tell him he's going to platoon? To get Jerry Owens in the lineup? That doesn't make sense to me and I don't think they like Owens all that much. My guess is, they are far from done and this whole picture will clear up by end of January. My prediction is we sign Rowand in the next week, and Owens will leadoff and play LF vs rhp, and Cabrera will leadoff vs lhp. It's too bad we didn't make a run at Josh Hamilton, as the Reds might be talking to the Cubs about him.

Erik Bedard
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 03:31 AM) If the O's can get good packages for Bedard and Tejada (as well as Roberts). I"m talking major league prospects to go around there other guys they could find themselves in very good shape 2 years from now (they are coming off one awesome draft). Does it matter? They'll still be no better than a 3rd place team in that division.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 03:19 AM) If Kenny gave up our best position prospect with the mind of getting Quentin as a platoon guy I'd throw up. I just have to hope that isn't the case. Otherwise I love the deal because the Sox are getting a guy whose ready now and is a better bet of being a solid big leaguer (I say that because Carter needs to be great offensively to stick, since he is weak defensively while Quentin, even if he is just solid offensively will be solid because of his defensive ability and base running). I think it's definitely the case.

Chris Capuano
QUOTE(max power @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 02:20 AM) Well what about the other years? Who cares, he was one of the worst pitchers in the history of baseball last year (all things considered).
-
Chris Capuano
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 2, 2007 -> 05:14 AM) I read an analysis somewhere arguing that Capuano, while imperfect, suffered more from lousy defense around him and poor relief work than with being garbage. I don't like him all that much but I might take a flier, if I were the GM, assuming the price was right and my scouts -- assuming they're any good -- tell me that he's worth it. So, I don't know. Kenny should consult all his scouts... ...or maybe not, actually. I watched most Brewers games last year, and Capuano was just awful. He would just lose his control out of nowhere, and then give up a few extra base hits. The worst part was he was getting a lot of run support early.

Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 01:10 AM) Agree 100%. Based on the franchise history of signing big free agents (all 3 of them in the last 30 years) there is virtually no chance in hell this happens when payroll is already at 100 mil. I suspect the White Sox already have most of the 2008 pieces now in place. Let's hope not, cause we'd be lucky to come in 4th place in the AL Central. People seem to forget just how shaky our 3/4/5 is in our starting rotation.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
FWIW, Quentin was the main player I wanted in any deal if Dye was traded to the DBacks last year. He'll definitely break Sox records for HBP in a season.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) We have 5 guys of Danks quality (Danks, Gio, Broadway, Egbert, Floyd) no real need to have 6. GREAT POST! We might lead the world in AAAA arms.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 09:03 PM) 1.Konerko and his 12 million a year until 2010. 2.To me, Jackson has his arrow pointing up, while Kong has his arrow pointing down. 3.The hip scares me. 4. Jacksons OPS in 2007-835, Konerko-841. A 6 point difference isn't worth 11 million to me. 5. That money can be spent on CF 6. If not, Financial flexibility for the future. Fair enough, but I think Kotchman is going to be a better player than CoJack, and the Angels have some better pitchers to throw in.

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) All things considered, Konerko for Jackson is probably pretty even. Convince me

Sox Acquire Carlos Quentin for Chris Carter; DFA Heath Phillips
QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Unless he is being part of a package for Cabrera. The Marlins might of wanted a young MLB ready OF not named Brian Anderson. Marlins needs a center fielder, as they have great young corners in Hermida and Willingham.
