  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) When Hawk who obviously has some inside, is trying to sell the public on stiffs like Gonzalez and Owens, you can only cringe. Personally, I think all this talk about being spenders this offseason is bulls***. They'll act like they went after people, and then b**** about the contracts being too much and bad for business. I can't wait to see who's fired next, as we know it will be another scapegoat.
  2. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) I agree it's time for massive shakeup. This is just pathetic like I've never seen. I admit I'm his biggest critic....but how has Ozzie Guillen stayed off the hot seat? When you combine that with KW's job security, it just seems like it's being run by a bunch of cowards.
  3. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) This organization should be embarrassed they cannot compete at all. Its about time the "shock" of how horrible they are wears off and heads need to roll, from every level. KW should look at the bullpen he dislocated his shoulder patting himself on the back for and resign right now. They're so far away from competing, it's scary. Assuming they trade Garland this offseason, that leaves you with two starters who you can even count on to have an ERA south of 5.50 next year. You have a horrible bullpen besides Bobby Jenks. Then, you have just no depth on offense. You need a new LF/CF/SS, and have to get better reserves. So basically.....unless they're willing to go on a spending spree (which won't happen with all the big contracts we have tied up right now), this team is looking at a ton of holes again next year.
  4. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 09:11 PM) OK. So you see it as an either/or situation. I suppose now with Dye back and their love of Owens they feel only one OF spot is open. I'm just stunned by the love for Owens...and even more shocked by the love for Richar. I can't see how a team can actually think they can compete with the big boys with those two guys as starters, and crappy players like who we have in the bullpen and Mr. Danks.
  5. This team is just f***ing terrible. Gotta love the positioning, as even in a DP situation, we don't really play Ortiz to pull on the infield. I'm surprised Ozzie Guillen hasn't quit.
  6. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) I still don't like the guy and I have a hard time forgetting the uncalled for plowing of Jamie Burke. Well, since Ozzie never retaliated, it must have been clean, and the Sox must have forgiven him.
  7. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) Do you believe that? If so, what does it say about Rowand? Yes, I believe it, and I would predict there's about a 75 pct chance that either Hunter or Rowand are signed by the Sox this offseason.
  8. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) LOL! I wonder what site that was. I guess I'm not too worried about next year because this year has stank from day one. Literally. I can't imagine another year happening like this, even with the current lineup. It started with the first batter of the season, shockingly enough. At least Buehrle re-signed.
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 08:31 PM) Seems like Buehrle is on. How is Andy Gonzalez on this team? Ugh. Why even ask questions like that anymore? It's absolutely embarassing that when Jim Thome is out, Andy Gonzalez is our only possible sub. At least we have 8 relievers on the roster now.
  10. There's a lot of talk within the Sox organization right now that Hunter is the main target this offseason, and I think recent media reports are suggesting that as well.
  11. QUOTE(Jeremy @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 07:32 PM) I think you hit the nail on the head and I'm not saying that out of frustration. Looking at things, not emotionally but rationally, I think it will be hard for a team on pace for 71 wins to improve the necessary 10 games to finish .500 in any of the next three or so seasons when there's such little help available in the minors. Or you can spend 300 million dollars on talent in the offseason, and hope the rest of your division sucks.
  12. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 04:07 AM) I feel Fathom's pain. Going to that debacle. What's it like at the Cell when the team is getting clubbed like that? Is it dead silent? Are fans just talking about how bad the team is or joking about winning it all just 2 years ago? Sadly, it was loud with all the Boston fans there. People around me were laughing when Erstad was announced as the 3rd hitter. It was amazing to me to see how Danks doesn't fool anyone. I don't think he got a swing and miss the entire night from the Red Sox, and every pitch their hitters took was a ball.
  13. Another just horrible day in this horrible baseball season.
  14. Went to the game tonight....about the worst time imaginable. Danks is bad.....I'm very down on him. I don't even want to think about the combined scores of the three games I've gone to this year (went to the Twins DH massacre).
  15. Nice start by Vargas tonight....their starting pitching might be the worst in baseball right now.
  16. Owens and Fields living up to the in-game instincts the Sox prospects are notorious for having/not having.
  17. Insulting effort by Owens on that fly ball. Whoever teachers our outfielders how to get into positioning should have been fired a long time ago.
  18. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) Did you or did you not think they were going to suck in 2005? You seem to think they are going to suck every year...some times the s*** sticks. This year it worked out for you...congrats...thanks for not bragging. Actually, I was optimistic for them prior to 2005, as I loved the AJP and Iguchi signings. Going into last year, I thought they were going to be very good as well. This year....I just didn't think they did enough to improve.
  19. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) Fields is your LF that can hit LHP. And Richar apparently can hit both RHP and LHP so i dont know if a platoon is the best thing I know he hit the slam against a lefty, but everything I've read on him said he struggles vs LHP. And as you know, we're not facing just average lefties in our inter-divisional games. I agree with you that Fields should be in LF next year, and Crede at 3b.
  20. If you want to talk about people not doing their job, has anyone stolen more money the last two years than Don Cooper?
  21. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) You may joke, but I actually agree with that. I think the whole three stooges thing was a positive force that way. I was actually serious.
  22. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:56 PM) I think one thing that the great majority of Sox fans I know agreed on before the season - was that Pods and Erstad starting in the OF was not acceptable. That was terrible. So that one, I think its not BS - I think most people here saw that disaster coming. And certainly we all saw that SOME of the older core of hitters would decline with age. But I don't think most people saw such a huge decline from every single one of them. I've been a broken record for a long time now about how we suck so much against LHP, and have down little to help our chances. Signing Hall was good....but we all know that was a bust. I want to see a Richar/Ozuna platoon at 2b next year, and get a LF and CF that can face both lefties and righties.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) Is there any way in hell that with a full season of work that he doesnt hit 30 hrs? The thing I love about him is that he's doing this all on talent right now. He still is fouling off so many great pitches to hit, and his swing is long. He's impressed me the most about how he's hitting homers off of some of the best righties in the AL, like F. Hernandez, Putz, and now Beckett.
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Eh, I think he's always been an attitude issue to an extent. But it seemed to me he put it away a bit in 2005, at least on the field. even in 2006, to an extent. But it seems much more obvious this year in his play on the field - he just looks like he has decided to not try as hard. I think Rowand was a good influence on AJ.
