Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
If the Sox were to trade PK, who would play first? I really hope KW doesn't plan on having Fields at 1b and Crede at 3b.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 10:29 PM) With "anoher deal imminent," being reported and Uribe possibly being shopped what are we going to see? I see us opening more holes, but Hunter in CF would be nice, but I like A-Row also. Uribe would be a real good super sub, but at $4.5M that probably won't happen. I don't see him as a 2B option either and it doesn't sound like KW does either and that's what counts obviously. Richar seems to be the leading candidate to stay at 2B. I see Crede or Fields as possible trade chips and we need help in the bullpen. Could that come from Japan? The move for Cabrera opens up more questions. I don't have a problem with Cabrera, but wish it was Contreras was the one that went in the deal and not Jon. Is Contreras still a trade option for the Sox? No one is reporting that another deal is imminent.

I wonder if Yanks could be interested in Konerko.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) That's just it. This is just the first domino, Williams is already saying he's in on other potential deals and he's saying he wants to move Uribe. It is a natural reaction for fans to look at one deal and jump to conclusions about what will be, but it doesn't work that way with this front office. Other things will get done. One position has been upgraded and now they'll try to upgrade others. For all you rebuilding fans, it ain't happening, another quote from Williams today was "we are 100% commited, from top to bottom, to achieve another World Championship". Personally I like that approach, I have seen too many the kids can play seasons when they really couldn't play. But that's just me and I realize others will have a different take. This is actually quite a fun time of year to be a baseball fan. Yep, the sooner people realize we're not rebuilding, the easier it will be to understand the moves. Like you said, it's more entertaining to go online every morning to see who we're rumored to be going after instead of who we're rumored to be getting rid of. I think there's still 2 huge acquisitions down the road.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) Would a "Ray" qualify, such as Crawford? I don't want Miguel Cabrera. But what this does seem to imply is another trade on the horizon. How can you not want Miguel Cabrera? The only person who should not want him is the owner of an all-you-can-eat buffet.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 07:04 PM) If Uribe ends up at 3B, somehow...I will boycott the Sox until KW is fired. The only way he ends up at 3rd base is if we trade Fields in package for Miguel Cabrera. If not, Fields will be our 3rd baseman.

One observation on McCamey: if he doesn't watch it, he might break the record for most palming/carry calls in a season.

Jon Garland
Most underrated performer on the Sox over the last 3 years. Thanks for everything Jon!

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) Few people are saying that Jon's going to tear up the AL for the next 10 years. (Although, Kip Wells and Josh Fogg were each better than the garbage we trotted out for our fifth starter for the next couple years, not to mention the garbage we traded them for. Jury's still out on the BMac/Danks challenge trade.) The point is that there's no Gio coming back in this deal. Gio isn't exactly a sure-fire pro. At least Cabrera is someone we can put on the field and know he can produce offensively and defensively.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) I still want Uribe moved. He's not going to give you good at bats late in the game, so his value rests with his defense. The more I think about it, the more I like Cabrera, but I'm still a little disappointed with what we get back for Garland til I find out the cash. Don't expect the cash to be that much...it rarely ever is.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
It's ironic, as Orlando Cabrera owns Jon Garland.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:28 PM) As has been stated b4... if this is not a prelude to something else...then this in itself is a terrible deal. I always wonder how KW seems to get less for SP than any other club does.... I fail to see how this deal can possibly set up any other trades for the Sox.

Never in a million years would I have thought I'd be disappointed in a trade for someone with the last name "Cabrera" today.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:25 PM) Yeah, the addition of Cabrera isn't a bad thing. Its only a question of the amount of return for Garland. I think anyone that has followed KW's career knows he SUCKS at trading veteran players for prospects.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
QUOTE(Capn12 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) Its a crap return for Garland, plain and simple. No one is going to argue that. But I'm pretty sure we all hope to god its the precursor for a real move that was needed to clear money.... I fail to see how we cleared a significant amount of money. If anything, it "frees" money to afford a 5 million dollar utility player.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
I actually like Orlando Cabrera, and if this means Uribe plays the utility role by either playing 2b against lefties or a defensive replacement at 3rd base, that's fine with me.

Jon Garland traded for Orlando Cabrera
Ugh....nothing like a team trying to compete for 2008 when they have so many holes. It's pathetic that all we could get for Garland is a 9 mil per year SS with one year left on his deal. I've said this for two years, but if the Sox ever want to rebuild, they must get rid of both Ozzie and KW. The good news is that Hunter seems like a lock to go to the Rangers.

If I hear anyone at work blame Rex for the loss because of the fumble, I might punch them.

Sox's hunt for OF is on
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) You need to get off that he improved every month line. It isn't true. His August was horrendous. Owens sucks. Even with his .340 September making up about 33% of his season, his numbers for the year are worse than Pierre's. Pierre also makes a lot more contact which means runners can advance as well. That said, I wouldn't want Pierre for $9 million either, but if they wanted to make it $5 million, I'd take him if I didn't have to give up much. I just dread having to see the same stuff coming out of KW's mouth if the market isn't "corrected".

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) How many college coaches are better offensive play callers than Ron Turner? Where the f*** has Wolfe been all season? Why not use him out of the backfield, as a receiver, do f***ing something Ron. You are the least creative coordinator I have seen this side of Shoop. From what someone in the NIU athletic dept has told me, the Bears have been very disappointed in Wolfe's speed. I don't think he'll be with the organization next year.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 11:18 PM) ok, that was just pathetic... could they make it any more obvious? I noticed that too, with the WR having no idea what the play call was.

Nice play call....nothing like running against a 10 man front. Both coordinators better be fired after this season. Hopefully Lovie has the balls that Ozzie lacks.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 10:50 PM) Bears defense best make a lot of adjustments, could not have played a worse half. Also what the hell is with our special teams??? We getting good returns but Wilson with the late hit, kicking ball out of bounds, guy touching it on a punt almost costing us.... I've been so unimpressed by the new DC this season. Their schemes seem to be wrong way too often. Urlacher's also been so average this year. It's just not a very good team, with some pathetic coaching.

Top 11 White Sox prospects...
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) You mean when a person within the White Sox organization comes onto the board and talks about how the people who scouted Poreda have already been fired and that he was drafted two rounds earlier than he should have been? The funny thing is that Poreda would have been drafted by quite a few teams in the picks immediate after when the Sox went.
