Sox Talking with Astros
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 10:54 PM) Burke is a very good player, he just hasn't been given a chance. He's a natural 2B, but because of Biggio, Burke was moved to the OF or as the backup 2B. I don't think that the Sox will get him now that Biggio has retired. But, if he can be had, I'd love to have him. He can hit, he can bunt, he can run and he's relatively decent in the field. He was awful last year.

Uribe Re-signed
QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:46 PM) Could we really have not match Detroit's offer for Renteria? We probably could, but it would mean us taking on Renteria's contracts and lord knows we can't afford an extra 6 million or something for Renteria. Our lack of "sexy" prospects in the farm system really hurts our ability to trade. Outside of DLS and Gio, there's no one that we can put in a trade to really sweeten the pot.

Don't forget Lidge is on the market.

Uribe Re-signed
QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) 4.5 million is too much for Uribe. No, it really isn't.

Uribe Re-signed
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Not really. PODS was an injury risk, Uribe hasnt nearly missed as much time as PODS has. In Uribe we know we have a 150-160 game player at SS playing a a high level defensively. That is almost the opposite of PODS. Absolutely....stepping back a little, I have no problem with this. Compared to the contracts other SS's have, as well as who we'd have to give up, I like the flexibility that this gives us.

2008 White Sox
QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) question for the board. Now that Uribe is back and Richar is pegged as the early favorite for 2b, here's my question... how many .250 and below hitters, can this team afford to have, while still being able to compete for 1st place in the division? After the way last year went, I don't think it's realistic to think of what this team has to do to get 1st in a loaded division. To be honest, the goal should be for this team to be over .500 next year, and go from there.

Uribe Re-signed
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) $13 million for 2008 probably has everything to do with it. He's not exactly 100% physically right now. After the season it was determined he didn't need ankle surgery, but trading for him now would be a huge gamble. And I think he's another person who wouldn't be surprising if his name comes up in a few weeks as part of a certain "investigation".

Uribe Re-signed
Oh well, that's fine. For the amount it would have cost to bring in a replacement who's not significantly better, I'm fine with this. This likely means no Eckstein, which is definitely a positive. We can definitely succeed with Uribe in the lineup as long as we upgrade in LF/CF (assuming Fields is at 3rd).

Uribe Re-signed
Levine reported that the Sox are still looking at trade possibilities (Everett, Hu, Aybar, etc.), but they will pick up the option if no trade is worked out.
-
Torii Hunter
Levine reported today the Sox will make the bigger offer in franchise history, likely something around 5 years, 80 million for Hunter as soon as they're allowed to talk contracts. He's far and away the #1 guy on their list, and he thinks Hunter will be a Sox outfielder next year.

Uribe Re-signed
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:28 PM) With the age of our team and the thiness of our minor league system, Gio would be one of the last players I would trade. He is one of the few guys we have that looks like a major league prospect. When the Sox extended Buehrle's contract, Gio became our biggest trade chip. It wouldn't shock me at all if he's traded in the next few months. Assuming Danks can stay in the majors, we have our 2 lefty starters. Gio's the type of guys who's minor league numbers look better than he really is, IMO.

Uribe Re-signed
I'd be worried about Tejada with the Mitchell report coming out, and possible suspensions that could come from it.

Sox Interested in Cabrera
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:21 PM) Cabrera for Kong (more or less)? I'm not so sure that's a bad thing. You'd also be giving up a lot of the farm system for overrated guys like Aybar. I think Cabrera is a phenomenal player, but at this time, the Sox are in no position to have to retool the entire franchise just to trade for one guy who will be a FA in 2 years. That's why it makes a lot more sense for the Angels or Yanks, as they have only a few holes compared to our roster.

Sox Interested in Cabrera
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) I would make the trade in the article in a heartbeat. Then look at maybe trying to move Konerko and Crede to the Angels for a package including Kendry Morales and Erick Aybar and some low level pitchers. Aybar plays MI well, runs well and will be a good top of the order guy. The money you give up getting Cabrera, you save dealing Paulie. I think you can go get someone like Corey Patterson to play CF or give BA another shot to produce in the nine hole. That sure sounds like a situation that would make our team significantly worse.

Unless the Astros will deal Qualls and/or Pence, then please hang up the phone. That's the worst organization in baseball right now.

2007-08 NBA Thread
I'm hoping Paxson and/or Skiles get fired for this mess. Ben Wallace continues to be the worst player in the NBA with regards to production vs contract.

Cabrera Trade Speculation
QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 05:53 AM) If the Yanks do that they can kiss the chances of getting Johan from the Twins good bye. Interesting speculation that if the Mets sign ARod, they then could use Wright to trade for Johan.

Uribe Re-signed
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 04:16 AM) If we could get rid of both that would be spectacular. Can we get rid of all three: Walker/Farmer/Uribe?

Sexiest Sportscaster
If it was for sexiest male sportscaster, would Pam Ward be on the list?

Cabrera Trade Speculation
Cabrera to the Angels for all their stud prospects makes too much sense.

Cabrera Trade Speculation
QUOTE(gosox41 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 02:24 AM) Why? He's great now. But he's also getting fatter and lazier. Is this the make of a 'championship player' that KW speaks about. I predict he has montster years until he signs that huge FA contract as some team will be suckered and bamboozled into. Then he goes into a steady decline. They say he has a poor attitude and the fact that he's getting fatter every year is cause for concern IMHO. Bob He reminds me so much of Manny Ramirez. And if Ozzie can't keep Cabrera motivated, then he shouldn't be a manager.

Official 2007-08 College Basketball Thread
If you get the Big 10 Network, do yourself a favor, and put on the Illini game right now. Kenny Battle is the color commentator, and is absolutely, positively, the worst ever.

Cabrera Trade Speculation
Give up anyone and everyone in order to get him.
