QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 03:43 AM) Have we ever (in recent memory) had a play like that go in our favor? Where a guy is out by 10 feet, but the ball rolls away on a routine tag/slide... Not sure, but we've had some guys called safe on creative slides quite often over the last couple of years. I'm so unimpressed by what Garland is throwing up to the plate these days. He's costing himself a lot of money.

Fields just rules against LHP. Thome finds another way to kill a rally.
-
Our starters seem to be giving up a ton of homers lately.
-
I missed a lot of games, but does Richar every hit the ball hard? Also, Andy Gonzalez shouldn't be leading off in AA or AAA.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 15, 2007 -> 02:49 AM) Thome is such a rally killer these days. First two guys in the line up get on and nothing from the 3-4-5 guys. When he isn't hitting homers, he is useless. His numbers are average, but very mediocre for him, since the ASB.
-
Wow, I thought Fontenot's was out.
-
These lefty lineups right now are just embarassing.
-
Aramis with another chance in late innings coming up here. The Reds should be up by more than 5 runs right now, but they've had some terrible base running. They have 16 hits tonight.
-
Brewers on the way to losing the 15th straight game in which Capuano has started. Ned Yost does a horrible job of leaving his starters out on the mound way too long when they clearly don't have anything.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) With all the shortstop talk... am I the only one who thinks that priorities number 1 through 3 are the outfield positions? With shortstop being behind them? Uribe is painful, but he is a stellar defender and does bring some power to the table (as well as a relatively cheap option). I don't want to see him next year, but on a relative basis, the OF scares me a lot more right now. His defense has been average this year, and when you add that to his terrible batting average, he needs to go. I know a certain person who will refute this, but look for the Sox to make a hard run at Tejada this offseason.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) You never know how things are going to shake out. The Tigers, who were supposedly going to rule the Central for the next four or five years, have regressed dramatically on the mound and some of their vets are beginning to show their age. The Twins will be losing Hunter AND Santana soon. And Shapiro is employing the same slugger-heavy approach that failed John Hart twice in the '90s. As long as the Sox have solid starting pitching, a solid bullpen, and solid hitters in the middle of their lineup, I like their chances to be competitive next year. And Thome isn't? This team needs to add another big bat this offseason.

I have a feeling KW will overpay for a reliever, and not via the FA route. Instead, it will be in a trade.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:16 PM) If Owens and Richar are going to be in the starting lineup in 2008, and you want a chance to compete, you need All-Stars at SS-LF With all the tough lefty starters in the division, we better pray we have a good back-up 2B and a good righty hitting 4th outfielder. We have struggled so much against lefty pitching the last few years.

QUOTE(Jeremy @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:13 PM) Heh. That's be great but I think we'd have to pay close to all of Jose's contract or the Dodger's motivation to dump a bad contract would be negated. I think it'd have to be more along the lines of a few B list prospects. Guys like Anderson, Broadway, and Getz. Still, that's not enough done unless they're eager to dump Furcal's contract. Otherwise, you have to start talking about guys like Sweeney, Ebgert, and De Los Santos (I assume Gio is pretty off limits). The only prospect that the Sox have who should be off limits is DLS. Sweeney would be the first prospect on my list to get traded, as he just seems to be a Burroughs clone with each passing month. Gio still isn't exactly a sure-thing, and he could have some really good value. With Buehrle and Danks around for the next 4 years, it's not necessary to have another lefty.

QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:10 PM) This article is crap. If Kenny's going to make another run next year, he's not going to deal Garland unless someone makes him an offer he can't refuse. Garland will be traded this offseason (my first actual prediction for what will happen).
-
Look at how good the talent is on teams in the AL like the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, etc., and then look at the projected team from the article. There needs to be massive upgrades in talent this offseason to even dream of contending for the AL title again.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) No, it doesn't. Then again, it makes even less sense to throw money at more bats when you need more arms in your bullpen. Ugh...the Orioles picked up relievers by spending money, have got good seasons out of those guys, and still can't compete because of the lack of offensive talent they have and lack of rotation depth.
-
QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) You win with pitching, not having a lineup of All-Stars from top to bottom. Yep, and that's an awful starting rotation that's projected. If you're trading Garland, you better get someone that can help the 2008 team and a monster prospect.
-
If KW is serious about contending next year, we can only have one of Richar, Sweeney, or Owens in the starting lineup. This article was so stupid, as that's just an awful team that is projected.
-
This was an annoying article, as there's no reason to be stirring crap about Ozzie right now. There's a lot of other teams that are actually in the race that should be focused on. However, I was good friends with one of AJ's best friends (was in his wedding), and he basically said that AJ isn't exactly the nicest guy in the world.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 02:47 AM) not a good weekend for the gio/gavin/danks combo.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 07:06 PM) 24 HRs allowed in 120+ IP...I don't care who you are, thats bad. But...but...but....Brandon McCarthy gives up a lot of homers. Ugh -

Now, here's a question....can you go into 2008 with Danks as your 4? In my book, he's nothing more than a possible 5 until he adjusts some of his pitching mechanics/grips. -

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 12, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) I'm assuming you don't want the obvious answer? I was out of the country, I have little clue what was going on besides the scheduled starters. -
Looks like I missed a good week to be out of the country.
