  1. QUOTE(rockren @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 01:32 PM) I think Senator Mitchell's investigation may have a lot to do with those talks going away. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tejada was one of the big names leaked. I apologize if I offend anyone with that accusation, however his power decline since the "crackdown" screams cheater. Again, not much fact behind that intuition...just a hunch. If you disagree, no big deal. You bring up a great point though....it will be interesting if some players are traded away for less than impressive packages just because there's belief they'll be named in the report.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) I'd rather not pay Hunter and save the money for Miguel Cabrera. That guy loves Ozzie. Show him the money and get him in shape. He would be awesome at USCF. Look for him to possibly be traded to the Yankees if Lowell stays in Boston.
  3. Ben Wallace is the most useless, overpaid player in the history of the NBA.
  4. QUOTE(daa84 @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) where/when did he claim that? My brother called and told me that's what Berstein just said that Paxson just announced.
  5. Paxson is claiming he won't give up Hinrich.
  6. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) I agree with most of this. Don't know if you were referring to me in regard to "extremes on Owens." I think Crisp is better. Better defender, though I think Owens is above average. Crisp's a better hitter, though Owens was right up there with him in avg and obp. Just that if he's not showing the kind of HR and extra base power he did in Cleveland, and with Owens ability to probably steal twice as many bases, Crisp is not THAT much more valuable. I agree, though, that Crisp has the higher ceiling, and thinking about this more it seems like a pretty good low risk"gamble," especially when compared to the contracts you'd have to give out for Hunter or Rowand. Hunter isn't 3 times better than Crisp. The big BUT is, what would we have to give to Boston? No he's not.....his throwing arm makes him mediocre.
  7. Once KW sees the crazy contracts that Rowand and Hunter are going to get, he'll trade for Crisp (and then b**** to the press about the market). Crisp is a great defensive player, but he's not nearly the quality hitter we need to add to the lineup. If you do trade for him, you better upgrade at SS.
  8. Remember that Bernstein has great sources within the Sox/Bulls organization. He was the only person who was saying that Thome's rib cage injury was worse than what was being told to the press.
  9. QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 03:39 AM) Should I be worried they didn't decline Uribe's? No, they said it might take 10 days. I'd imagine KW is seeing what it would take to get Tejada, Furcal, or someone like Jack Wilson.
  10. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 01:29 AM) Per the Score, Hahn has withdrawn from consideration for the St. Louis GM job and will stay with the White Sox. Great news
  11. Did Hawk drive to his house to see how he's feeling?
  12. I think Hunter's pretty much a lock to go to Texas now.
  13. Wow, what an absolutely horrible episode of Raw.
  14. Did I miss the memo that Favre is retiring? Holy s***, the lovefest for him tonight is pathetic.
  15. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Oct 30, 2007 -> 12:27 AM) Point is-they gave up NOTHING to strengthen them significantly. WE will trade Garland an established starting pitcher, and get less. Thats the faith I have in Williams Very similar to their Sheffield trade last year.
  16. Why would the Dodgers want Contreras. They already have an old, expensive, injury prone pitcher in Schmidt. I've heard from a few people that they're very interested in Dontrelle.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:52 PM) After this trade? I doubt it. What bargaining power do the Dodgers have? Furcal is well overpaid at $13 million per season and is coming off of his worst season since 2001. Everybody also knows that they have Hu ready to go. I think Contreras, cash (moreso cash for the second year) and a prospect should be able to get it done. It would have to be a damn good prospect, and unfortunately, we only have two of those. Like what I said about Garland, you can't trade DLS or Gio for a one year contract.
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) Give them Jon. That would be a terrible trade for the Sox. Furcal is a FA after the upcoming season. If you trade Garland, you better get some talent that will be in the organization for the next few years. It's not like we're in a situation where we're one player away from contending for the pennant in 2008.
  19. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) The Braves site says Renteria is due to become a free agent after this coming season (2008). If that is true, Detroit is giving up two talented young players for a rental. The CF prospect is extremely highly regarded. What this speaks to, as much as anything, is the Tigers drafting. They take CF prospects just about every year, just as the Phillies do. Speedy 4/5 tool CF prospects can net just about anything you want in trade. They still have Maybin so this kid was a tradeable asset. Not to be a downer but meanwhile the White Sox sit with Brian Anderson, who might fetch a middle relief prospect at best. All we can do is hope the new scouting direction will give the White Sox more results. It also speaks to Atlanta's scouting and development because I believe they've got someone ready to step in. He has 2 yrs, 20 mil left including a team option. Escobar will be stepping in for the Braves. FWIW, Gorkys is a better offensive prospect than anyone the Sox have.
  20. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 08:45 PM) They want Furcal gone; offer Contreras I really wish people would stop saying this trade as if it's possible. If the Dodgers are looking to get out of Furcal's contract, why would they take on a bad contract that still has a few more years on it? If we're going to get Furcal, it's going to have to be for Garland.
  21. Ugh....the first move, and the AL Central already becomes tougher. It's ok though, this time of the year is fun. I still believe Tejada and Furcal are more likely options than Renteria was.
  22. Scary rumor I just heard that ARod to the Tigers might be the most likely situation of all. Boras and Leyland are very close friends.
  23. QUOTE(BearSox @ Oct 29, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) ARod is a great player and all, but no way is he worth that type of contract... Especially for a player who chokes like a b**** in the playoffs. How come no one on this site ever talks about how much Aaron Rowand sucked in the playoffs?
  24. Well, that was boring as hell. Outside of Buehrle's no-hitter, Bonds record breaking homer, Thome's 500th homer, and Lilly's glove throw, this was about the most boring baseball season of my life.
