Official Love for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
fathom replied to Greg The Bull Luzinski's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 09:14 PM) Who do the Cubs remind you of this week? I brought up the KC comparison because I said that in May. It's going to be sad if they end up below .500 after such a strong start. Makes me appreciate the consistency of the Sox in 2005. -

The Brewers remind me so much of the Royals from a few years ago. They're so bad right now, and they don't have a healthy starting pitcher under 4.80. We better hope the Cards stay hot this wknd. They're going to face 3 lefties vs the Cubs, so I hope they bench Ankiel vs them. He looks brutal vs LHP. -
Sounds like everyone but Wieters has signed.
-
Has Hawk been complaining about the umpires every game lately? He sure seems ticked off about recent things.
-
That was impressive by Owens....but he almost castrated the 3rd baseman with that slide.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 03:35 AM) Honestly, is it really that baffling? The team consists of: Pods and Erstad (who we were both against carrying prior to the season) Owens (who I've called a future 4-5th outfielder for going on 2 years now) Richar (a guy I'd never heard of before we traded for him) Cintron (who was poor last year, had a LATE off-season surgery, and looked f***ing brutal on the rare occasion that he did play in ST) Fields (who looks great on occasion, but also looks really out of place at times) Uribe (who even though I was for his sticking around, is nothing more than a low-OBP power hitting slick fielding shortstop, who has seen his defense and power slide) Be thankful there's some major league talent on the pitching staff. Otherwise this would be the worst Sox team of our lifetime. It still might be. And add on Konerko's recent struggles, and Thome looking awful at the plate, and I can see where you're going with this.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 03:28 AM) At least they're defensively sound. It just baffles my mind how bad they've looked in the games I've seen recently.
-
Wow, what a horses*** effort by Pods out there.
-
This team is just so bad. They're going to have to spend a fortune this offseason to compete again. I do enjoy watching grind outs to 2nd base.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 03:25 AM) So what's the Brewers' record since the creation of this thread? I really wonder what happened to closing it. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 02:44 AM) There is simply nothing else he's going to learn in the minors right now. He's very raw, and has been at every level, but as he's grown into each level, his numbers have gone up. He's going to struggle for a while, but at least we have the option for him to struggle in the big leagues while we're not in a pennant chase. You know that I want him to be getting at-bats in the majors right now. It's sickening we have to watch Erstad, Pods, and Cintron still play.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 02:44 AM) How many times have we said that phrase concerning White Sox prospects? Richar must have been informed after leaving Arizona that immediate success just doesn't work for this organization. People really have to stop paying attention to AAA numbers....that league is such a joke this year. Richar's swing just looks incredibly weak.
-
Actually, sounds like he's calling out Schilling for when he said if the accusations weren't true, why wouldn't you sue the person.
-
It's funny seeing Lilly pitch with the wind blowing out, but the Reds starter, Dumatrait, is one of the worst big league starters I've ever seen.
-
Richar doesn't seem to be ready for the majors.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 02:15 AM) Do I understand this correctly -- if any of the remaining teams are unable to sign their first selection, they're guaranteed the same spot next season minus one slot? What I want to know is, if the Royals are the worst team in baseball concluding this season, would the first and third selection for next season's draft be guaranteed for them? If this is true, then it's really going to effect our draft position. We could potentially have the third worst record and not pick until seventh. Whatever the process, it's better for everyone if every player signs. Although it would make sense that the one season where we're in position to draft in the top 10 we're screwed somehow. Yes, I believe you are correct that the Royals would have those high picks.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:51 AM) A slappy speedster is not a bad thing! That can win a hell of a lot of games for a team. A bad slappy speedster or a slappy speedster who loses his speed due to a long series of injuries is a bad thing, and that's been our problem at the top the last 2 years. And that's what I'm referring to. The Sox were deadset on having a speedy hitter at the top of their order this year, and when they saw that Pierre and Roberts would cost too much, they brought Pods back instead of possibly going the OBP route for a leadoff hitter.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:53 AM) After tonight, they will be 3.5 games out. I can't believe Cubs are on their way to being .5 game out after playing so bad the last two weeks. Huge series this weekend for the Cardinals, as they need to win at least 5 of their remaining 8 games vs the Cubs this year.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:49 AM) Erstad must get his at bats somewhere. I'm sure Jim's fine. (Actually, it's really not a bad idea for Jim to sit for a game a week to 10 days or so just to try to keep him a little healthier anyway. That would be especially important if we ever could make a playoff run) Agreed, no reason to play him every game the rest of the way. However, it would be a lot smarter to sit him against a lefty starter.
-
QUOTE(GreenSox @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:46 AM) One of the reasons the personnel is so bad is because Ozzie wants the Erstad/Mack/Cintron/ and assorted other crap hitters on this team; and because he has no patience with young hitters. We're damn lucky that the Sox won the WS before Ozzie had a chance to screw up the personnel. Ozzie gets the most out of his personnel...the personnel isn't very good and he has major influence in who is on this roster. Well said! Ozzie doesn't want an OBP guy as a leadoff hitter....he wants one of his slappy speedsters instead.

QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 01:37 AM) Gonna be tough. Thome is out of the lineup tonight. Hurt again?
-
Brewers are going to end up below .500 this year.
-
It's a fantastic show. If you want to start a debate, ask someone who they think is the hottest girl on the show. Many different opinions.
-
I can't wait to hear Hawk complain about this call for the rest of the year. It was real close at first. And yes, what a sad statement when you're down 2 runs with a runner on, and you have two of the weakest hitters in all of baseball come up to face a lefty. I've never been more disappointed with our team's offensive personnel and future than I am now.
-
For some reason, seeing that Pods has 7 RBIs this year made me laugh. This is so sad.
