  1. 5 hours until the deadline. It would be a bad day for this organization if they don't make any moves.
  2. QUOTE(frankie5angels @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:54 AM) Hey fathom where did you hear that? Just curious. Also did you hear anything about Macowiak being dealt tomorrow. Chicagosports.com
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:43 AM) I'm assuming that mound didn't do any damage and he will be fine of course. I just really don't want to see Pods, Erstad or Owens leading off next year, at least Bourn has some real talent. Bourn's fast, that's about it. He had a terrible OPS his last year and a half in the minors. If we got him in a deal for Dye or Contreras, that's one thing. But no way should he be the main player in a deal for Garland or Vaz.
  4. KW's going to sleep on the Dye/Boston deal tonight, and see how he feels tomorrow. The Red Sox substituted a prospect into the equation instead of Masterson or Delcarmen. KW's going to see if he feels the two draft picks are more valuable than the package.
  5. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:39 AM) I definitely don't want to deal Vazquez but if the deal started with Bourn and Carrasco I'd definitely have to think about it if I were KW. Bourn got hurt tonight, and he's nothing special anyways.
  6. I think a more likely deal would be Garland and Dye for Kershaw, Hu, and Meloan. The Dodgers aren't trading Kemp.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:35 AM) Those players may very well find themselves back. Yet, I'm just going to create a signature assuming Williams realizes the state of our farm system, and the possible package Garland could receive, and just wish him farwell right now. That way, when I wake up tomorrow afternoon I can just add in the name of whichever players were acquired. No doubt a tremendous package. How's that for high expectations? The reports that the Phillies want Vazquez worry me, as those two teams have no problem finalizing trades.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:35 AM) Wait till he is our starting CF next year with Pods in Left. It will be like groundhog day. Just root for them to both continue sucking the rest of the year.
  9. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 02:13 AM) Beane is going to beat us to the punch on this. Unlike Williams, Beane doesnt have distaste for spinning a pitcher for some prospects. KW will balk at it, or try to get one major league ready guy who doesnt have the ceiling of a few AA/AAA guys that might be a year away. We have a need at SS, and we have a team that has a block with Furcal over Hu. And we will get the privilege of watching him, and a few others Oakland A us to death when we go out that way. I have a bad feeling, that KW will lack the guts to pull the trigger enough to do this right. It will be half assed and we will be out of this for a long while. The right moves, and you have to give up talent to get it, will allow us to rebuild quicker. Garland must go. If Garland doesnt go, then KW better sign him to a long term deal. Because if he is just going to dump him for peanuts next year because garland wont go for the hometown discount. Great post
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:51 AM) The Dodger affiliates radio said Kershaw isn't hurt, but the organization wanted him to not get too many innings. Haha, he's getting traded.
  11. Dodgers want Blanton right now....and I'd love to get Kershaw for anyone on our team.
  12. Kershaw and Loney for Konerko? A man can dream, can't he.
  13. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:57 AM) The Braves are said to be still interested in acquiring a starting pitcher. Now that the Braves have Tex and their LF situation is set with Diaz and Willie, they don't have any room for Thorman. I wouldn't mind seeing a trade of Contreras + cash for Thorman and maybe someone else. Why would we need Thorman? 1B is the last position we need someone at.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 12:44 AM) I wouldn't put it past the sox to sign up to three current Phillies free agents to be this upcoming offseason. Rowand, Iguchi, and Garcia?
  15. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) I'd still rather trade someone with value than Contreras. At worst, he'll be placed on the DL or moved into the bullpen. Considering his value, it'd be better to let him remain a member of the White Sox until the end of the season. Perhaps he'll marginally improve. Sorry Flash, but the biggest albatross on this team right now is that 20 million he's owed over the next two years. I'd rather have that money free and available on major league talent than get a bunch of prospects.
  16. We're not going to trade Jenks. We have enough bullpen problems, and Jenks is the one guy KW can count on.
  17. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:53 PM) This is one of those axioms in baseball I never understood - that LF is somehow easier defensively than RF. I don't see it. I think RF requires a bit more in arm strength typically, but LF gets more action (more RH hitters). Seems to me they are pretty much the same. But as Dye still has a strong arm but less manueverability, to me, he'd actually be worse in LF than he is in RF. So what makes you think he'd be better in LF? If Dye can't get to a ball down the line, it's a double, and not a triple. He has a strong arm, he just doesn't release it quick enough. This would help him a lot, as he'd have a much shorter throw to 3rd base on plays.
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 08:49 PM) Watching Dye stumble around RF towards the end of the extension should give for some frustrating times as a fan. They should give him a try in LF, and then sign Rowand and place Sweeney in RF next season. Also, if the Sox do extend Dye, then they're going to have to trade one of the starters.
  19. Of course the Sox would offer Dye arbitration, as his salary this season makes it an easy decision. Dye won't accept it though.
  20. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 06:58 PM) I disagree. I'd rather take the picks than two schleps. You have a hell of a lot more confidence in our ability to draft than I do then. Also, if we have a few compensation picks, then it will cut down on the money we can possibly spend on the first pick we have. Don't forget with Dye, it's very possible he signs with Texas. If that's the case, it's a sandwich pick, and not a legit first rounder.
  21. Like someone said, you get WMP and take a chance on him the rest of the year to prove if he can start. Anyone complaining about the names being thrown around in trade rumors today must have forgotten the amazing packages we received last time we were dealing guys at the deadline.
  22. QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Why? Why can't we get a ss? Why not Lowrie at least Kenny? Why another slow-pitch softball player? I'd take the slow-pitch softball players over grinders. And BTW, Pena is one of the fastest players in all of baseball. He might not know how to steal, but he can at least go 1st to 3rd or score on a single from 2nd.
  23. Pena and Delcarmen are the major league-ready guys that KW wants, as it will also make it easier for him to justify the trade and not saying it's a rebuilding move. People have such insane projections of what we'll really get in trades, but this one would be a strong return.
  24. I'd really like a Pena/Delcarmen deal for Dye. Are people forgetting Dye is a FA in 2 months? About three weeks ago, we would have creamed our pants for a package like this for the guy everyone was calling Dead.
  25. QUOTE(Felix @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Happy birthday? More like Happy Wedding.
