  1. Thome really, really needs to step it up against lefty pitching.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 01:59 AM) I don't think anybody is particularly happy with the season Dye has had so far, but at least he picked the right span of time to start hitting. Dye hitting like this is a definite upgrade for a bunch of teams out there, so hopefully we can get something better than the two draft picks we'd get at season's end. For some reason, I think Dye will end up back with the Sox next year.
  3. Masset did terrible in his start tonight. I wonder if he'll ever make it back to the big leagues. Pods continues to disgrace himself, as he was picked off tonight.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) So you're saying pretty much that it didn't matter what the hell Ozzie did, the game was over anyways. If that's the case, why doesn't Ozzie just have the White Sox players come off the field when they get down by three or more runs at any time the rest of the season? Hell, Ozzie can just have a little fun -- let's put Contreras in CF, Jenks at SS and Buehrle behind homeplate. Just so we have this clear, everybody -- from now on, Ozzie gets a pass on ANY decision made when the Sox are down by more than one run. Apparently I was wrong in thinking that the manager's job was to put make decisions that gives his team the best possible shot at winning. You know what I find very funny? The fact that it's clockwork that people like you come into threads like this and never, EVER defend Ozzie's decisions. In fact -- it's very ironic that you're the one saying that other people are stirring the pot. What do you do? You come into these threads and throw s*** at other people. Have you ever actually tried to put up an argument relevant to Ozzie's decision-making? No -- you come in here and just point the finger at the people who are calling out Ozzie on the (stupid) moves he makes. And when it comes to these threads taling about individual moves in individual games, what do you do? Bring up irrelevant bulls***. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. EDIT: The only person who actually came in and put up a decent defense for the Ozzie shift was TLAK. And I've seen absolutely nothing for leaving in Contreras for the 8th. Awesome post! I can't wait for people to point out that the reason we couldn't trade Contreras was due to his horrible ERA. His ERA would be .6 pts lower if Ozzie didn't give up during the Boston game and the KC game from before the break.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) In all seriousness, if you could choose one guy on this team to get a clutch hit for you right now, who would it be? Right now I'd say Konerko, but Thome would definitely be number two for me. Ever since the LA walkoff game in 2005, all AJ does in close-and-late spots is swing for the fences -- he seemingly only comes through when we play the Cubs -- and while Jermaine is coming around, I don't think I'd put him above Thome. I'd list Konerko, then Dye, then Iguchi, and then Thome. Dye seems to get those liners up the middle quite often in late, clutch situations. I thought it was interesting how few homers Thome hits from the 6th inning on this year. I'd want Thome leading off an inning in which we needed a run, as he's the most likely to draw a walk.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) Come on, Fathom, you know me better than to lie about statistics. But if you must... Scroll down a bit and you'll see 'em. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bspli...1&year=2007 No no, I trust you. I just wanted to look at the stats.
  7. Oh well....btw, put those percentages at 99 pct for Floyd on Tuesday.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) FWIW, in the ninth inning this year Thome is hitting .313/.571/.438. I luuuuuuuuuv selective memory. I'd love to see where you can get this so I can look up the game logs, and see why I can't remember his numbers being at that level.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 09:17 PM) Yes, barely hitting .300 in close and late situations this year. We've discussed this a million times....we're talking about 9th inning production, or if the game goes into extras. I know his stats were awful last year in those situations, and I don't remember a single hit he had in the 9th this season when tied or down a few.
  10. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) or later? Extras
  11. Good grief, he's so worthless in those situations.
  12. Will Thome ever do anything to help this team in the 9th inning or later?
  13. Great game for Fields today. And yes Tony, AJ's doing a good job receiving these pitches. However, he's getting that free hand out there way too much, and he's going to take a pounding with some foul balls.
  14. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) Add me to the "I want Eric Byrnes on the White Sox" Club. Byrnes is going to want a 5/60 contract.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 08:55 PM) Another step upwards in next year's draft! Yes sir! There's nothing wrong at all with losing right now.
  16. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 08:39 PM) They are def. the guys who give you the most hustle on every play. If the Sox signed both guys, I would be a total favorite of those moves cuz we would never be let down on bloop hits. Byrnes and A-Row give you 120% each play, anyone else in favor>? Funny you mention 120, because that's how many millions it would take to sign these two guys.
  17. Nice to see Dye have a solid game. Hopefully he's on a plane to Seattle with Contreras.
  18. It's going to be Floyd, but don't rule out Haeger still going.
  19. Sweet, maybe we'll give up 10 runs or more again today. We get a bad offensive team, at least, in our next series.
  20. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 22, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) Get Garland out of there...Is it Ozzies intent to overuse all of our starters to make a point of how bad our relievers are? Actually, it very well may be. The comments he made the other day about letting our starting pitchers go longer was just idiotic.
  21. And just like that, Garland pitches like a pussy this inning by not challenging hitters with 2 outs, and gives up another three runs.
  22. Jerry Owens had about 10 swings there, and not one of them would have resulted in him getting the ball out of the infield.
  23. This is a really bad performance by Garland. His fastball is tailing right over the heart of the plate, and the Red Sox are hitting the ball hard. It's sad to see how far away we are in terms of talent right now.
