QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) I trade Thornton for Gwynn in an instant. Gwynn's not very good. The last thing we need to be doing is trading an actual competent reliever for a 4th outfielder. We have like 50 of those in our organization right now.
-
I doubt this won't get done solely based on not giving him a NTC. And as someone stated above, it's insulting though that we'll give a NTC to Contreras and Vazquez, and not to Buehrle. I know it will never happen, but KW should be fired for the way things happened over the last week. He's now lost even more leverage, as other teams know we won't re-sign Buehrle.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 03:23 AM) IF we are basing that on the current White Sox situation, you are absolutely right. But somebody put us in this hole, and left us with empty minor leagues. True, but it's been a perfect storm though with our aging guys all hitting the wall at once, etc. This team should have been better this year, and then we were going into rebuilding mode after this year anyways.

Brian Fuentes with a tough 10 days.

The Mets sweeping the DH today probably lessens their need for Buehrle just a little bit. I'm hoping that Kuo pitches poorly for the Dodgers tonight. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 03:19 AM) I hope he wouldn't, but if people don't show up, he won't spend the money. That's how it's been. All I'm saying is KW has 2 years left, that maybe too long. He can do alot of damge in 2 years. If this makes you feel better, there's very little any GM could do over the next few years to get us back into the playoffs.

That article makes it sound like Ozzie isn't planning on Buehrle being here much longer. In reality, I think this who saga will really make the Sox look bad to the casual fan that doesn't follow things closely. Rather, the fan that reads the Sun Times, etc., every day is going to be really upset if they find out they couldn't reach a deal with Buehrle. If the Sox do let Buehrle go, we need to let Contreras, Iguchi, Dye, and Thome go also, as it means we're in full rebuilding mode. I just hope KW doesn't act like a pussy.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:49 AM) So lets recap the headlines of Cowley: Wednesday: Buehrle extension near Source says change of heart has lefty, Sox on road to long-term contract Thursday: Buehrle deal: Now or never EXTENSION UPDATE | Williams said to be firm on Friday deadline to keep lefty with Sox Friday: The big deal will get done Everyone will benefit when Sox finally get Buerhle to sign on the dotted line. and now people are saying Saturday's headline will say the deal is there is no deal. Come on... is this a scam to sell papers, or a guy who is guessing like everyone else? I think we just need to wait to hear from KW, MB, or MB's agent. True, but if he says they rejected the deal, then that brings some closure to the situation. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:50 AM) It's not a scam. WSI knows all. So you don't think the guy has a connection to Cowley?
-
QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:40 AM) I think all this speculation about trade talks was bulls***. It was just for the fans, to show that KW and JR tried to sign MB, and now we will part ways, and paint MB to be the greedy money hungry athlete. Typical Whitesox. If this was KW's plan, it's going to backfire on him big time. I had a feeling this might be happening when they made it public that Hahn was going to Tampa.
-
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:32 AM) You view Mark potentially leaving as a bad thing then I assume. Yes, especially if it means we have to hang on to Contreras. Simply put, I have no confidence in KW to get proper value for the players.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:36 AM) Anybody know where George Ofman lives? He did nothing wrong...at least he knew the Sox were interested in trying to negotiate with him. If anything, I have a feeling this was more the Sox organization leaking stuff to try and make them look good than anything else. It's really, really going to backfire on them.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) Don't usually agree with PR, but even he could see what our genuis GM is up to. If we trade Buehrle, we should also trade Contreras and then use that money to upgrade so many of the holes that we do have. Let Floyd and Gio get some major league experience during the 2nd half of the season.
-
After the Cubs game today and the news coming out in the paper tomorrow about no deal with Buehrle, it's not a fun time right now.
-
QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:29 AM) I don't think Count's is being traded anymore according to the latest Buehrle rumors. Yep, that's just super. As Phil Rogers so wisely puts it, we're a year away from our back end of the rotation becoming the front end. Contreras will never put up an ERA under 4.75 again...his stuff is just too mediocre.
-
QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:10 AM) someone on the whitesoxinteractive reported that buerhle camp rejected sox offer and sox will continue to look trade him This wouldn't be surprising...I don't know what else could happen this year to make things worse for our organiztion. The quote is taken from Joe Cowley. I honestly think the Sox need to trade him then before Monday night's start.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:22 AM) Uh, no. Half the losses haven't been because Ozzie did this. Not even close. Today was a bad call, but I can't be upset with Ozzie for keeping his starter in after his starter told him he'd like to stay in. Ozzie's a player's manager and this'll happen sometimes with different results each time. Yes, but this was more than just winning or losing. Ozzie knows what KW's trying to do behind the scenes.
-
I've seen some impressive feats this year, but leaving a starting pitcher in the game 4 batters too long might top the list. I don't care if they win or lose right now, but Ozzie leaving Contreras in to die is just f***ing retarded with regards to his trade value.
-
Holy cow, Thome stinks so much right now. He's so non-aggressive at the plate.
-
KW is a genius if he can get anything of value for Contreras. It's so obvious he has nothing left. That weak slider he throws might be the worst offspeed pitch in baseball.
-
Jermaine Dye really looks like Michael Jordan standing up in the dugout.
-
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 12:47 AM) Will the Sox consider dealing him? You think so? No clue, but if the rumors are true about how much pain he's had to play in the last two years, it would seem like he's going to have a lot more injury issues the next two years.
-
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 12:45 AM) YOUTUBE..NOW~! Is the Pods bandwagon out of the gates yet? Now that his average is down around .275, at least we won't have to hear the every other year crap about him. Brian Bannister should never, ever be able to get Jim Thome out. With Giambi not healing, I wonder if the Yanks will consider Thome.
-
The Andy Gonzalez bandwagon has come to a screeching halt.
-
Bannister has the type of stuff that would have made our scouts drool before this year's change in philosophy.
-
Two of the better fastballs this year for Contreras....pull him!!!!
-
Really important for Contreras to have a good start.
