Wow, good eye. Bad pitch selection by Redmond.
-
3-2 slider will K Uribe.
-
Crede and his love affair with pop ups to the right side. If we only get one run this inning, all the momentum goes to the Twins. I'm still confused as to how Ozuna couldn't score on that double.
-
Wow, not going to see an uglier 1-1 swing.
-
Get this run in Crede....you'd think he'd be ideal to hit a sac fly.
-
Three good at-bats so far. Erstad's hit was nasty.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ May 10, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) Ha, then you haven't seen much because I've seen a line-up very similar to this but with Pods in LF. My god that was unforgetable. And I think Cintron was at SS in that line-up too or it might have been the next day. Against RHP, Pods is like Barry Bonds compared to Pablo.

So the fans were whining about this in the offseason?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 9, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) Now yes Floyd you can argue hasn't been a good pickup so far, but there's still plenty of time for him, he's had some decent starts down at Charlotte nonetheless. But Gio is looking like a good pickup so far you have to admit. Gio seems solid so far, but he is repeating AA. I'm not ready to pencil him into the #3 position in our rotation for years to come though. No matter how anyone slices it, KW didn't get the type of value back for Garcia like he thought he would. -
Congrats Ozzie....this is the worst lineup I've seen by the Sox in a long time. Good thing we're putting Mackowiak at DH and putting Dye in the outfield.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 9, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) Your right. He is outstanding. I don't have a clue what I am talking about. He looks great in every game I watch him play. Iguchi has been horrible this year at the plate and in the field. He has no intensity, no bat speed, and his arm has been piss poor. He's going to have to step it up if he expects to get any sort of payday this offseason.

Erstad would be the absolute ideal 4th outfielder if we had a strong LF/CF who can hit LHP.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 9, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) So what you're saying is that the Sox shouldn't have drafted Frank Thomas? After all, he played football just like Borchard did and was an athlete... BTW -- can we have a poll for what was the 'best' Ozzie moment of last night? I think you can put up three solid options... -Intentionally walking... wait for it... Nick Punto. -Matt Thorton can't get Josh Rabe out -- apparently -- so Ozzie brings in Aardsma. Gardenhire predictably responds by bringing in the hitter he wanted at the plate all along, Jason Kubel. -Not walking Justin Morneau with -- again, wait for it -- Jeff Cirillo on deck. What a pathetic all-around performance last night. Ye gods... We suck. Don't forget pitching to 21 game hit streak Hunter with an open base and 2 outs (and a great fastball hitter against a fastball pitcher) instead of going after Cuddyer, who looks terrible returning from injury.
-
My guess is Aardsma

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 9, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Yeah, you all are right. It is Ozzie's fault that this team is hitting .220. It is Ozzie's fault that Iguchi can't throw the ball to first base without pulling Paulie off the bag. Yeah, I can see where you guys are coming from. It is all Ozzie's fault. Oh, wait, maybe it is all Greg Walker's fault because he is OBVIOUSLY teaching them some ad habits. The managers and coaches get way too much credit for winning and losing. The constant bickering and whining on this message board about the coaches is flat out ridiculous. How can you blame the coaches whent he team is last in the league in hitting? The only way you win with a team like that is superb pitching and defense. If Iguchi could make that throw without pulling Paulie off of first last night then that would have been a win for the White Sox. Too bad he couldn't do that. Too bad he hasn't done a thing since 2005. It's the manager's job to make strategical decisions, especially in close games, to help give his team the best chance to succeed. If he really thought that facing Morneau in that situation was the best option the Sox had, then unfortunately, he's about as bad of a manager as some of us believe. The Twins have two dangerous hitters right now, and he let both of them beat us in crucial situations. When every game is close like we've had, not only do you need good pitching and defense, but you also need good managing. He hasn't been as bad this year as he was last year, but last night was a poor performance by Ozzie.

QUOTE(joeynach @ May 9, 2007 -> 03:58 PM) The pitch Morneau was about letter high 6 inches outside. He just hit it, somehow. Usually thats just a bad pitch and an obvious ball that you take. Ok, my mistake then. I just turned the channel as soon as the ball was hit, and avoided replays the whole night.

QUOTE(Reddy @ May 9, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) inability to pitch in clutch situations fathom? anyone remember 5 straight K's? The kid can do it. He's made two - count em - TWO mistakes all year (if that, because Hunter did just do a good job on that pitch - the man is hot right now). I'm amazed that people will criticize our BEST reliever this year and let Thornton/MMAC get away with their mediocrity. Yep, and we weren't winning when he had that great outing against the Indians. I'm not complaining at all about Aardsma....just not sure if he can maintain his poise when in tight situations.
-
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) Yeah, what's Ozzie going to do? Bait them with Cintron and then switch in Mackowiak? Oh, the terror! Maybe he should have kept Eduardo Perez and not carried 3 lefty relievers?

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:18 PM) AJ was 2 for 14 coming into yesterday...without the help of Big Game Freddy Garcia. I believe both of the caught stealings were on blown hit-and-runs.

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:16 PM) The irony is that Morneau has been really struggling this year driving in RISP. Of course, leave it to the White Sox to break him out of that slump. Apparently, he wants to beat the White Sox more than we want to beat him. Where has the fire gone with this team? The Twins always seem to have that little "edge" or motivation in our head-to-head match-ups. Managing, as well. Even though it didn't work out for them, I loved how Gardenhire got Ozzie to bring in Aardsma so that he could have Kubel bat (a much more dangerous hitter than Rabe). I can't remember the last time Ozzie used his bench like that in order to get a favorable match-up at the plate.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:13 PM) Why is it that anytime the Sox take advantage of a mistake, it is instantly discounted, but when another team does it, its just something that good teams do? That's a part of the game. Did I not give credit to the three guys who had 2 out RBI? However, the offense still looked miserable last night. Every lineup seems like it's a split-squad team we're throwing out there. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) Ah, now see hindsight is a different story, because then we can introduce the Danks/McCarthy/Massett deal into the equation. If you want to look at it at that moment, we have to look at the deal at that moment. At that moment, Garcia had gone from a mid 90's pitcher to a mid 80's pitcher, who had to come up with a trick pitch to even be respectable. Brandon McCarthy was pretty universally accepted to be a better pitcher than Garcia at that time, so how is putting McCarthy into the rotation for Garcia, while getting two high level prospects, making the team worse in 2007 at that time? You can argue that Kenny Williams was wrong, but you can't call him a liar. Its a pretty reasonable assumption to feel that Brandon McCarthy would pitch better than Freddy Garcia in 2007, at that time, and its even more so when you add Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez to that mix, as potential candidates if Bmac hadn't have succeeded. Because he flat out lied about what it would take for him to give up one of our starting pitchers last offseason....that being players that could contribute to our 2007 team (the last chance at glory for the next few years). And please don't refer to Gavin Floyd as a high level prospect....he kinda reminds me of the pitching version of Joe Borchard. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 9, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) I think the main argument was that Garcia = or And like you mentioned, we never really used the savings from getting rid of Garcia in terms of bringing in free agent/trade talent money wise. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 9, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) The lineup was actually pretty good offensively last night. Stringing together hits, scrapping for contact. It was one inning aided in large part by a terrible throwing error. Yes, AJP, Iguchi, and Crede all finally put on nice contact swings. Besides that one inning though, the offense was atrocious. I agree with you though, compared to other games this season, that inning was an offensive explosion. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 9, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) With Masset on the mound, putting the winning run 4 balls away? I pitch to konerko or Dye. The way Nick sat down Cuddyer, im sure alot of people on here thought he would also sit down Morneau, he just turned on a fastball that wasnt a horrible pitch. While he did look good against Cuddyer (who's clearly not 100 pct and should have been pitched to in the 8th instead of Hunter), I don't think even the most optimistic of Sox fans liked his chances against Morneau. Masset's 93 mph inside fastball in that situation was not a good call, especially after Morneau was looking in after looking bad on an inside slider.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) He could have very well believed that with Garcia struggling to hit the 85 mph mark, that we would be better with Gavin Floyd in the rotation. If you want to discount the McCarthy trade completely, you could also say Kenny thought we would be a better team with McCarthy in the rotation over Garcia. How is either one of those a lie? Its a subjective opinion that you don't agree with. Well, Garcia is at the 90 mph mark right now, so he made a gross error in judgement if he didn't think Garcia would be healthy enough to pitch in the majors this year. When KW made the Garcia trade, he had no clue that the McCarthy trade would occur. He's even said as much. The simple point I'm making is that the Garcia trade, in regards to the people who we acquired, won't do s*** to help the team in 2007.
