QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) There is no loyalty in sports, period. I'm sorry but this proposed contract is just an absolute steal for the Sox even with the no trade clause. This would have been way to good of a deal for the Sox to pass up imo and it looks like that is exactly what they're going to do. And it makes it about 99 pct likely that Jon Garland is gone after this year as well.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 06:50 PM) Isn't it also what the articles posted on whitesox.com, part of the White Sox organization, say? Yes, but there's heavy rumors that many of the "sources" during the last week were members of Buehrle's family.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 06:12 PM) So in other words, Buehrle's camp is telling the Sox he wants the extra year and half of NTC rights as they gave Garland and Contreras the one year (and after 2 and a half of it for Mark he'd be 10/5), and in return he'll sign for just the 4 years and just the 56 million. That seems MORE than fair to me towards the Sox. Which is exactly what the Buehrle side wants you to believe.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) Bowden supposedly has the worst rep as a GM in baseball. Arrogant or alcoholic? BTW, what's the chances we trade for C. Guzman this offseason?

QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) I still LOL thinking that he wanted to meet ARod without Boras around. I laugh even harder when people think we'll sign Ichiro or ARod this offseason.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 05:46 PM) Seriously now people, it's not the same thing AT ALL. It's for the best though, cause if the Sox extended Buehrle and then traded him this offseason, that would be an even bigger slap in the face to our fans.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) We don't sign big free agents and we won't spend money on draft picks. So where the f*** do they expect to compete from? Because KW is the most arrogant GM in sports, and thinks he knows better than everyone else.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) See ya. He'll be back tomorrow, don't worry. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) I still think it might be better long term for the franchise's talent level if we trade Mark, that is IF Kenny gets proper value in return. However if we won't give a guy who is going to be a 10 and 5 guy in 2009 anyways a NTC, and that causes a 4/56 bargain basement deal with a premeire lefty to fall through, that is pathetic. Pathetic. How do JR and KW ever expect to acquire top talent then unless they're a few years away from free agency? So not only do we shy away from going after free agent talent, but we also shy away from spending money in the draft. KW talks a big game, but he's acted like a pussy so far. How many more times can he say they're going to make big changes, and two weeks later.....NOTHING! Maybe we can just keep acquiring Ozzie's buddies.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) After sleeping on it, I'm really not all that upset at all. As long as KW can get a nice haul in a deal for Buehrle I'll be fine with it. Me too....but we also have to get rid of Contreras as well.
  10. Look at who's in our lineup right now....we have so many guys who should be on the bench or in the minors. Only Konerko, Iguchi, Thome, and AJP should be starting in the majors right now. The Tampa series was a nice breather on what's been a miserable year, but it's hard to imagine any scenario when we can even get within 6 or 7 games of the division lead the rest of the way. our schedule during the 2nd half is incredibly tough.
  11. fathom replied to DBAHO's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One more thing....if we're not willing to make this deal happen for Buehrle, you might as well go ahead and trade Garland then. He's going to want/get in the 14 million dollar range also, and I'm sure he'll want a NTC.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) ...it won't be "dead" until he's traded elsewhere. Either way, I'm losing interest. They had me, and then they lost me... You sound like Ozzie Guillen.

QUOTE(Straycats @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) I read on WSI that Jayson Stark believes that Buehrle will sign by monday That was probably stated prior to last night. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) Now that the article is on MLB.com, I am pretty convinced that this is not a publicity stunt any more. Sad Story Anyone else think that they have to trade him prior to Monday night now? When's Floyd's next start supposed to be?
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 04:30 AM) I trade Thornton for Gwynn in an instant. Gwynn's not very good. The last thing we need to be doing is trading an actual competent reliever for a 4th outfielder. We have like 50 of those in our organization right now.
  15. fathom replied to DBAHO's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I doubt this won't get done solely based on not giving him a NTC. And as someone stated above, it's insulting though that we'll give a NTC to Contreras and Vazquez, and not to Buehrle. I know it will never happen, but KW should be fired for the way things happened over the last week. He's now lost even more leverage, as other teams know we won't re-sign Buehrle.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 03:23 AM) IF we are basing that on the current White Sox situation, you are absolutely right. But somebody put us in this hole, and left us with empty minor leagues. True, but it's been a perfect storm though with our aging guys all hitting the wall at once, etc. This team should have been better this year, and then we were going into rebuilding mode after this year anyways.
  17. Brian Fuentes with a tough 10 days.

The Mets sweeping the DH today probably lessens their need for Buehrle just a little bit. I'm hoping that Kuo pitches poorly for the Dodgers tonight. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 03:19 AM) I hope he wouldn't, but if people don't show up, he won't spend the money. That's how it's been. All I'm saying is KW has 2 years left, that maybe too long. He can do alot of damge in 2 years. If this makes you feel better, there's very little any GM could do over the next few years to get us back into the playoffs.
  19. fathom replied to DBAHO's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That article makes it sound like Ozzie isn't planning on Buehrle being here much longer. In reality, I think this who saga will really make the Sox look bad to the casual fan that doesn't follow things closely. Rather, the fan that reads the Sun Times, etc., every day is going to be really upset if they find out they couldn't reach a deal with Buehrle. If the Sox do let Buehrle go, we need to let Contreras, Iguchi, Dye, and Thome go also, as it means we're in full rebuilding mode. I just hope KW doesn't act like a pussy.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:49 AM) So lets recap the headlines of Cowley: Wednesday: Buehrle extension near Source says change of heart has lefty, Sox on road to long-term contract Thursday: Buehrle deal: Now or never EXTENSION UPDATE | Williams said to be firm on Friday deadline to keep lefty with Sox Friday: The big deal will get done Everyone will benefit when Sox finally get Buerhle to sign on the dotted line. and now people are saying Saturday's headline will say the deal is there is no deal. Come on... is this a scam to sell papers, or a guy who is guessing like everyone else? I think we just need to wait to hear from KW, MB, or MB's agent. True, but if he says they rejected the deal, then that brings some closure to the situation. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:50 AM) It's not a scam. WSI knows all. So you don't think the guy has a connection to Cowley?
  21. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:40 AM) I think all this speculation about trade talks was bulls***. It was just for the fans, to show that KW and JR tried to sign MB, and now we will part ways, and paint MB to be the greedy money hungry athlete. Typical Whitesox. If this was KW's plan, it's going to backfire on him big time. I had a feeling this might be happening when they made it public that Hahn was going to Tampa.

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:32 AM) You view Mark potentially leaving as a bad thing then I assume. Yes, especially if it means we have to hang on to Contreras. Simply put, I have no confidence in KW to get proper value for the players.
  23. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:36 AM) Anybody know where George Ofman lives? He did nothing wrong...at least he knew the Sox were interested in trying to negotiate with him. If anything, I have a feeling this was more the Sox organization leaking stuff to try and make them look good than anything else. It's really, really going to backfire on them.
  24. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 02:34 AM) Don't usually agree with PR, but even he could see what our genuis GM is up to. If we trade Buehrle, we should also trade Contreras and then use that money to upgrade so many of the holes that we do have. Let Floyd and Gio get some major league experience during the 2nd half of the season.
  25. After the Cubs game today and the news coming out in the paper tomorrow about no deal with Buehrle, it's not a fun time right now.
