  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) Just based on memory, and without looking at BAPIP, it sure seemed like Hermanson was a lot luckier with regards to line drives hit right at people. I don't know what was in Politte's right arm in 2005, but he had an amazing slider and a great two-seam fastball. But yeah... that year was really something to behold. Ha, Hermanson sure had that warning track fly out pitch working. He had an amazing splitter during the first few months, but once he lost that, he was basically throwing 90 mph fastballs down the plate. Hermanson also had a knack for getting very good hitters, like Tejada, VMart, and Sweeney to pop up meatballs in big situations. Politte had amazing control that year. He started to lose it towards the end of the season, but his control for 90 pct of the year was what Aardsma's control in April was like.
  2. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:27 AM) the starters all had a great year, but each of them have done that before or since. so i wouldn't really say those were flukey or merely career years. the pen, yea, there was some big time "probably not gonna happen again" type pitching in 2005. but bullpen pitchers are often prone to up and down seasons. it seems like everyone in the 2007 pen is having a horrible down year. top that off with the horrible seasons some of our all-star caliber hitters are having ... it's been ugly lately. Yeah, I always say Neal Cotts allowing one homer all season throwing only 91 mph high fastballs is one of the most astonishing stats you'll ever see. Also, I'm pretty sure Cliff Politte has the lowest percentage of hits on balls put in play.
  3. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 3, 2007 -> 03:00 AM) Pods, had good had good years before 2005 - not a career year Iguchi had good years in Japan before 2005 - not a career year Konerko had good years before 2005 - not a career year Dye had good years before 2005 - not a career year Crede had an average year in 2005 - not career year Uribe had an average year in 2005 - not a career year Frank got hurt - certainly not a career year Garland had an average year Garcia had an average year Buehrle had a good year Count had a good year We had career years from so many pitchers that year, especially our relievers. We also were the benefits of other teams suffering injuries during the last 1/3 of the year....something that has hurt us in recent years. We definitely deserved to win it that year though, don't get me wrong.
  4. Unless the Yanks are paying about 80 pct of Abreu's contract, this would be the type of move that would destroy our teams chances the next few years also. Abreu makes a lot of money, and he's worthless against LHP also. His defense is pathetic as well.
  5. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 10:16 PM) totally no way that team was a "fluke" It was a fluke in terms of how everything came together with guys having career years and other teams, besides the Indians, having a lot of issues in the AL. However, for about 80 pct of the season, the Sox were clearly the best team on the field. If you want to point to a team that fluked it's way to the WS, the Cards last year is the best example.
  6. Two things: - Ozzie and Abreu are good buddies - Abreu sucks....blatant juicer
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) You are part of some group that may go after A-Rod? The Sox have went after A-Rod twice already, why wouldn't you think they would go after him again if he is indeed available? If you want to be mr. negativity then go ahead - even make yourself feel better and tell yourself you are just being realistic (which is a joke). However, you and everyone like you could keep it to yourselves. It is easier to be negative and be right, which is what most negative people seem to care about - being right. There is also the common negative person's battle cry - "I don't think this will work, but I would love to be proven wrong." Most on here hate Jay Mariotti and his negative bulls*** about the team we love, but at the same time a lot of posters seem to be exactly like him. As far as Buehrle - he seems to be different than other pitchers the Sox have just let walk or traded away. I could be wrong and the Sox may not give a crap about re-signing him, but I believe they will make every effort possible. Many here were wrong about not being able to re-sign Paulie as well. I hate the negative attitudes. The only difference is we wouldn't be trading for ARod...we'd have to sign him this offseason and go up against plenty of other teams who want him. When it comes to trades and signings, I'm definitely not Mr. Pessimist on this site. I think we have a chance to go after Ichiro if JR thinks the move will help this organization on and off the field. I do agree with you that Buehrle is different than Colon, etc. However, he's having too good of a season this year, and his price is going crazy. Teams like the Mets are going to have a lot of money to spend on quality starting pitching this offseason. 8. I believe it's 28 runs in last 13 innings combined for these guys.
  9. I really hope KW doesn't overpay for some mediocre veteran reliever like Weathers. Hell, trade Crede for Lidge, and give him a shut as our set-up man.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) then I say take the drastic step and bring jenks in during 7/8, at this point I would rather see the bad pen blow it in the 8/9, something different Yeah....if something continues to not work, don't keep doing it. Be creative...hell, make Massett the set-up guy or call up Gio to do it (I think I just gave Flash a heart attack).
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) please tell me who the hell you're talking about bringing into the game? Because I see no one in the pen getting anyone out. I'm sure you can find many other things to hang on Ozzie, but you're forcing the issue here. His hands are tied. Let Thornton start the inning then. The fun thing is that it's not my job to make these decisions. Good move or not, it's Ozzie's job, and nothing is working.
  12. The thing that sucks is that this seems like deja vu this year, with the bullpen coming in after a starter allows a few base runners, and then we blow the lead and the game. Last year, the deja vu was with Vazquez's 6th inning.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:54 PM) I actually think this has been Ozzie's best year as a manager, albeit the last couple games have not been as good. Has he made some mistakes, sure, but every manager does, and I think the main issue with the blown 10 games is the fact that this is one of the worse pens in baseball over the past few years. I'd have to say he managed better in 2005 In all honesty, he was a very good manager during April. However, he's really struggled the last couple of weeks. In no way am I saying this is all his fault. However, when things are going this bad, it's up to the GM and Manager to do something about it.
  14. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:52 PM) not much of an accomplishment. anytime one of the sox relievers come in I could "call" a bad outing. I would be right like 80% of the time. Ha, true. I was referring more to playing into the Jays hands by facing Wells instead of Stairs.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) For f*** sake...bring up Charlotte's pen and just keep Bobby. And for you b****es blaming Ozzie, what the f*** is he supposed to do....bring in a position player because whatever reliever he'll bring in (not named Bobby) is going to suck miserably. Quick question: do you find no fault with Ozzie for blowing 10 games with late leads?
  16. This is f***ing worse than that Boston bullpen by committee of a couple years ago. Good lord. I'm not blaming Ozzie for this loss....but when someone continues to make decisions that end up costing us runs/games in the 6th thru 8th inning, he does deserve some blame. We really have to stop letting Contreras start innings when he's around the 100 pitch mark though.
  17. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) ozzie brings in throrton to pitch, you b****. ozzie brings in aardmsma to pitch, you whine. ozzie brings in anyone and you complain. wtf, it's very simple concept, almost the entire pen sucks... that means just about anyone he brings in will suck understand? I like Matt Thornton. I'd have no problem bringing him in....except for it forced Toronto to put their best player into the game. This is second or third guessing....I called this situation about 5 minutes before it happened.
  18. 3 of the last 7 outings for Aardsma have resulted in him giving up 4 runs or more.
  19. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) So out of curiosity, how many blown games for our bullpen this year so far? Blown saves is a worthless stat. This will be game #10 in which we've lost after leading in the 6th inning or later.
  20. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:42 PM) Oh bulls***. No matter what, Danks was a great pickup. Of course...I meant for the 2007 season though. You know, the season KW said he wouldn't forget about when making moves this offseason. Danks and Jenks are the two players I actually enjoy watching these days.
  21. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) sicking up for your players in public is better than trashing them in the media IMO who do you want to replace them with? i don't think our minor league rosters have enough talent to shore up this pen. do you want ozzie to make some trades? do you want him to scout the minors for some prospects for the pen? I don't care if he sticks up for them publically or not....it's just that he keeps putting players out there who are clearly not 100 pct to struggle. He left Pods out there to die last year, and he's doing the same with MacDougal this year.
  22. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:41 PM) Send f***ing Aardsma and MacDougal down to AAA, they both suck. Macdougal actually can't be sent down, so f***ing release his ass, i dont care what he has done in the past or that he is signed till 09, he needs to go. Prinz and Vasquez should be called up. MacDougal should have been placed on the DL weeks ago.
  23. QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) I want Willams front and center telling me how bad he f***ed up this winter! Let's hope Danks starts throwing well again. If he continues to have bad command, we're really going to have nothing on this 2007 team that KW can say he helped add this offseason.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) Boy I had that one pegged didn't I? Ugh. Take the high road. If other people want to bump what you said, let them. Don't take any pride in saying things that come true if you know they'll upset people.
  25. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 2, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) DL MMac. His leg is bother him. Bring up Printz. I've noticed that MacDougal's stride is all messed up. He's overstriding, which is causing him to aim his fastball and have little movement on what used to be a great slider.
