This thread has the potential to be the longest thread in soxtalk history? So far, what's been the thread with the most pages?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 02:28 AM) The fans dont pay the bills. You have to think Big George is not happy with A-rod right now, and someone has to be shown the door. Out of all the marquee players that you let go, he is the first. Plus you know they are going to make a run at pitching next year, why dont we offer up some clutch playoff pitchers (Garcia, Mark, Count) and see if they bite on one of them. This isn't meant for you Rock, but the next one to offer up Contreras or Vazquez in a trade to the Yankees is going to make me punch someone.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) All good points row, fath, collapse. It seemed to me that far too often this season Uribe and Anderson were automatic outs. You can't be giving up two outs every time through the order. Obviously the main point of this thread is Alex Rodriguez, I think we're all in agreement that Rodriguez at short stop for the White Sox would be an excellent acquisition. As for the asking price, I think the people who threw out Crede and Garcia are on to something. You're absolutely right about them being automatic outs...it really killed our offense when you take into consideration how pathetic Pods was this season. If Uribe is your only designated "defensive" player, then he's a great fit. It's when you have too many other "defensive" players, that's when the easy outs start to add up.

Much like Freddy Garcia, Juan Uribe is the type of player who I think will definitely have "career years" during their contract years.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) I don't come here to start s***, you did that yourself. I came here to talk baseball, saying that I thought a guy making top dollar with the lowest on-base percentage in baseball didnt have trade value isn't flawed. Is top dollar really 4.5 million for someone who will hit you 20 homers and drive in 70 RBI while hitting at the bottom of the order....while playing well above average defense? No offense red, but you make it sound like he's making 8 mil a year on a team with a 40 million dollar payroll.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) It's not a pot shot, he's close minded about the White Sox, I'm close minded about the Red Sox. All fans are close minded to some degree. Well, I was confused by your stance also. You said he had no trade value at all, and then when someone made a point about him not being worthless, you agreed. Personally, I think Uribe would be a valuable trade chip as part of a bigger package. If you're just trading him, you're likely going to have to trade for someone with a similar salary.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) Because he'll never be good enough offensively It will be interesting to see if Chavez wins the Gold Glove this year. This was one of his best defensive years, but he was terrible offensively. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) It makes plenty of sense, you are just extremely close minded. Once again, I like what he brings to the table. Once again, I don't believe he has any value on the trade market. And I was just about to commend you on being respectful to us White Sox fans in this debate.

There's always a team like the Nationals who will give up the farm for a certain type of player.
-
There are definitely some teams that wouldn't mind a good defensive SS with some pop who only makes 4.5 million. Of course, I think it's more likely that Uribe is packaged with either Garcia or Buehrle.
-
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 07:38 PM) Rodriguez is payed $16 million by the Yankees, as a short stop that's a relatively fair price. Crede, Garcia for Alex Rodriguez is a fair deal for both teams and it makes a boatload of sense. Yep, it really does. Anyone who thinks that we'll get him for anything less than that is fooling themselves. ARod would be a guaranteed 40 homers a year playing at the Cell.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 07:43 AM) The Yankees build their team on paper. Doesn't always work that way. Sounds like another team I know this season.

Leading off for the 2007 white sox will be....

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 04:14 AM) Our pitching was brutal to being with. Adding a butcher to the infield is NOT going to help. Very questionable attitude also for Lopez. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 04:10 AM) Yankee fans hate A-Rod. Ranger fans hate A-Rod. Why would we want him to ruin our team as well? Makes no sense. He makes way too much more than any current White Sox and as such will be a major distraction. Let him rot in New York please. How dare he be one of the best players in the history of baseball, especially if he's playing at SS. You say he defines losing, even though his postseason numbers aren't terrible. Jim Thome has been on more talented teams in his career, and he hasn't won a World Series. Does he define losing?
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) He's a player that warrants that kind of talk. I'm sorry but I'm just drooling over the possibility of Arod on this team and imo it's not a pipe dream at all. Of course...if you look around, I started, or at least I think I did, the talk about ARod a few days ago. He'd be a great fit for this team, to be honest. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 01:22 AM) I know I'm not the biggest sox know it all, but why crede? I know the Yanks would love him, but seems like the sox or angels would holding the cards in this one. my guess would be high level prospects to retool the yanks system and vasquez. Yep, I'm sure the Yankees would love to have Vazquez back. Maybe we could sign David Wells then to take his place.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread

Will someone please explain to me why Gardenhire was so intent on playing smallball today, when he has a pitcher on the mound who clearly has no shot of shutting down the opponent? -

QUOTE(AirScott @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 08:00 PM) Pods isn't a pathetic bunter, he could be better, and he should try to bunt himself on more. personally, if I were going to get rid of Pods, it'd be because I'm tired of seeing him strike out looking. For a supposed"spped" player, his bunting is not acceptable. -

QUOTE(AirScott @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) I wouldn't say he'd prefer Ichiro, no strings attached. but you'd have to give up someone for Ichiro. honestly, why not stick with Pods if you're signing Pierre? bring in someone else, they're essentially the same player. if Pods can get healthy (if indeed he's injured, which is my theory), then it's pointless to sign Pierre. Because Pierre can play Ozzieball, while Pods can't. Look at everything Ozzie is saying in the press: he wants guys who can bunt and make contact. Pods is a PATHETIC bunter, and he K's way too much for someone with no power. -
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) Laying the blame at the feet of Mack is a fallacy, IMO, particularly when we know that starting pitching and the bullpen killed the season. Those extra runs and outs that happened due to Mackowiak playing CF didn't help them at all. There were many instances where a misplay by Mackowiak resulted in a blow-up by our starting pitchers. I'm not blaming Mackowiak for the blow-up, but if we had a legit MLB CF on the field, things might have been different.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 08:53 AM) Mulder is a fa. I'm a big fan of Anthony Reyes but Buehrle is worth a hell of a lot more than that. Anthony Reyes might be the most overrated player on soxtalk. He had a great game against us, but his ERA ended up being way too high (5.06), and he's had a history of injury issues. Flat out, the Cardinals don't have the pieces for the Sox to trade with.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2006 -> 12:01 AM) I really, really don't like having to chant "Steroids" at people playing on the White Sox. So we can't get Bonds to leadoff and play LF next year?

How about this for someone who might have a year or two left: Gary Sheffield

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) Ditto. Come on, Fathom... do you really disrespect and think that lowly of Kenny? I think the world of KW....he was light-years more influential in helping us win the 2005 WS than Ozzie could have ever dreamed of. However, I just have a feeling that Ozzie is going to be begging KW to acquire his "Ozzieball" players this offseason. Also, a quick question I have: why do people want us to trade for Carillo so bad? If we thought he was good, we would have drafted him 2 years ago. Now, you add on the injury he's had, and I don't think we'd trade one of our starting pitchers for him. Also, Scott Linebrink was BRUTAL during the 2nd half of this season.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) That's been Stoneman's motto in the past to hang onto the young players. But the Angels missed out on the playoffs this season and Arte Moreno has let it be known that they want to get a stud player in the off-season. So like I said earlier, if the Angels can't sign a good run producer in FA (and I don't think it's a very big class this off-season IIRC), they'll have to fill that need in the trade market. I wouldn't believe though that the Angels wouldn't offer Santana and Kendrick for Garland and Crede when they offered a deal of Santana, Aybar and Kotchman or Adenhart for Miggy Tejada about 2 months back. The thing is, there's no doubt in my mind that if we traded Crede, it would be for a package centered around Chone Figgins (yuck). I can't see the Angels trading Kendrick though, as they're letting Kennedy go via free agency in order to open up 2nd base for him for the next 10 years.

FWIW, there was a recent blurb in the Tribune where Ozzie said that the Sox are going to start to scout Latin America better in order to try and find some players. Maybe that's one of the good things about having Ozzie as our manager.
