QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) Once again, dont read the comcast gun. Javy was above 90 the whole night. Fair enough, but that must mean that Buehrle is throwing 93 mph because he's been 2 mph slower than Contreras when pitching at the Cell (which you'd assume is the same gun). I'm pretty confident in Vazquez. Contreras is the pitcher who I worry won't make it through this season due to being ineffective.

QUOTE(bulokis @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:00 PM) I agree with you on the Thome trade. After we won, we won with clutch hitting and pitching. Then KW traded for Thome and the dynamics change that KW want HR again. KW conflicted himself by getting a HR player instead of a doubles guy for example in Overbay. On base and slugging percentage is overrated. People tend to forget how much Rowand sucked at the end of 2005 and during 2006.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ May 2, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) Look what happened with Buehrle pitching the Royals game...nobody wanted him coming out for the 7th.(I won't list posts from the game thread) All he did was get 2 strikeouts throwing 9 pitches in a 1-2-3 inning. I personally didn't want Ozzie bringing Javy out last night, but it's a crap shoot. He gives the benefit of the doubt to the pitchers. I don't always agree, but it probably evens out over the course of the year as far as it working and not working. 2005 it worked well.....2006, his pitching decisions were a disaster....20007 = too early to tell

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 2, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) What exactly are the positives surrounding this team? We have a decent pitching staff....that's about it. No speed, no fundamentals, aging veterans, mediocre defense. But we have a power bullpen! (I like the arms we have, but they are giving up too many big runs this year) I don't know what direction this organization is going with the offense, but since the start of the 2nd half last year, they all seemed to have aged about 5 years. Just not a lot of bat speed. You figure that next year, we'll have Thome, PK, and AJP in the lineup for sure. After that, there's going to be a lot of other changes. On the bright side, at least it's fun to see Danks develop in front of our very eyes.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 2, 2007 -> 03:12 PM) He was still pitching fine and who cares the odds of us getting a run after the 7th was zero to none anyways. big picture Big picture? You mean not having to have a starter throw an extra 20 pitches. Vazquez has thrown a ton of pitches over his career, and you're alrady seeing signs of his stuff declining. His fastball was in the 89-91 mph range last night. I really never thought I'd see the day where Mark Buehrle was throwing 2 mph slower than Vazquez and Contreras.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 2, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) He has already shown he has gotten past his "6th inning" implosion this year. Bringin up the past year is such a stupid idea, if its not the case right now. It's still too early in the year to start stating players have overcome anything. At this point in previous years, Vazquez and Todd Ritchie were sub 3 ERA pitchers.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) Maybe because its a 10 day road trip? Ozzie did nothing wrong last night, the team did. I don't think anyone blamed Ozzie for this team losing. Letting Vazquez start the 8th just reminded too many of us about the s*** that Ozzie pulled last year. However, pretty much everyone agreed that this team just sucks in virtually every aspect right now (except for starting pitching).

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 2, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Ozzie did what now? Letting Vazquez start the 8th inning was stupid, as was playing Mackowiak over Erstad. We have a lot of days off this week, so I can't see how resting Erstad for 3 out of 4 days is a good move when he's the only one showing life at the plate.

White Sox vs. Mariners, 5/2/07 (L)
Should be a fun, pathetic lineup today. My prediction is: Erstad (1B), Iguchi, Dye, AJP, Crede, Mackowiak, Uribe, Cintron, Sweeney Will someone please be on the lookout for any reference to the '67 pennant chase?

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:58 AM) I went through the April stats. They were pretty much the second best bullpen in the AL in April too. They were 1st or second in all the telling peripherals. Borowski had one bad game. Outside of that, their pitching has been damn good. Sizemore hasn't even been that good outside of games vs the Sox. Perralta is showing signs of coming out of his year long hitting slump. If he does that, their offense will be top notch again.

This was the first, non Johan Santana stated game, that I felt we had no chance to win since the 2005 season started. I don't know how our organization expects to win games right now with the lineup we're trotting out.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:37 AM) like i said, a lot you guys complain about almost every move he makes. and a lot of the time you guys are way off base. i need to stop reading the game threads So did you think there was no problem with Vazquez starting the 8th? Flash, you need to start asking "where's our Jamie Burke?" QUOTE(Soxfest @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:37 AM) Time to take bets If Walker will survive the road trip, I think he will be KW's scapegoat and gone befoe Sox return home! He'll easily survive....they'll play the injury excuse card.

Cleveland's ERA is 4.21. With their offensive talent, if they can get an ERA anywhere close to that, they'll be fine. They were also missing their #2 pitcher.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:33 AM) if you b**** about every move he makes eventually you'll be right. congrats It wasn't just me saying this. However, I'll be the punching bag, that's fine.

White Sox vs. Mariners, 5/1/07 (L)
This is the worst Sox offense I've seen in years. I can't see how we can hit enough to win games. QUOTE(Soxfest @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:33 AM) Crede will be a guy very likely to ship in July! I'd have no problem with it, except Josh Fields has been a massive bust so far this year.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:31 AM) whatever. if ozzie takes him out and they give up a run then "ozzie is a moron for taking him out!111!!!!!" if ozzie keeps him in "WTF!!!!! ozzie take him out!" no matter what move he makes some of you guys will spaz. Yeah, did you intentionally not read everyone asking why Vazquez was still out there starting the 8th?

QUOTE(Soxfest @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:29 AM) Time for KW to take some heat, he has been quiet lately! Good thing the McCarthy deal is working out, as the rest of his offseason looks like a disaster.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:28 AM) Remember when Konerko used to hit? He'll probably be on another team by July. If the Sox trade him, and then lose Buehrle, JR might as well sell the team.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) Why the in the world would AJ setup, low and in on a lefty. Thats their natural swing zone. Especially Ibanez. AJ's pitch calling is just awful. I can't wait for Sexson to do some more damage tomorrow on these first pitch fastballs.

White Sox vs. Mariners, 5/1/07 (L)
QUOTE(mr_genius @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:26 AM) lol how is that ozzie's fault? Vazquez should have never started the inning. That's vintage Ozzie from last year where he'd leave his starter in to start an inning late in the game where there was realistically no reason for them to be out there. I can't even start to count the amount of times a pitcher went from having a line of 6 innings, 3 runs to 6.1 innings, 5 runs.

f*** you Ozzie and AJP. Another 0-2 hit against the Sox in a big situation.

QUOTE(striker62704 @ May 2, 2007 -> 04:20 AM) I hate Ozzie and his righty vs. righty, lefty vs. lefty pitching matchups, and his right vs. lefty, lefty vs. righty batting matchups. That's not how it works ozzie. Get a f398ing clue. In a sac fly situation, you always want to bring in the pitcher with the 94 mph straight high fastball. So where did Thornton's 97 mph fastball go?
