  1. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) This team really gives me a nice warm feeling. Brightens my mood a lot. It just baffles me how little enthusiasm and energy they have out there.
  2. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) Since the Sox have to pay Buehrle his salary for this season regardless, I thank they should use him strictly as a batting practice pitcher. He's good at that. Don't the Cubs need a lefty batting practice pitcher?
  3. The exciting news is that Buehrle might see his ERA go over 5 after today.
  4. Meatball after meatball by Buehrle. Does Buehrle ever throw an inside fastball to start an AB anymore?
  5. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) corpse f'n baseball Our offense has completely disappeared. Not only are we not scoring, but they're having some terrible at-bats.
  6. I'm eagerly anticipating SSI's pull baseball post tonight.
  7. Anderson is making far too many first pitch outs, especially leading off the inning.
  8. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:40 PM) Point being? He took an outside pitch and hit it far enough to be a HR at most any park. Just that he's hit about 6 balls in the last 3 weeks to the warning track. We've been discussing this in these threads, and we've talked about whether or not he's tired. Please don't take it as me complaining about that out. It was one of the best swings we've had against Rogers in years.
  9. This series has a TERRIBLE feel. The Tigers are pumped up, their fans are very into these games, and we have guys blowing bubbles after they hit a grounder.
  10. Iassogna is a terrible umpire, and you won't find many guys with a worse reputation among MLB.
  11. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) Funny thing is with these Tiger fans, you couldn't get a person to admit they were a Tiger fan last season... Who cares? It's not like we don't have our fair share of bandwagoners also. Well done Oz!
  12. Joe Crede = King of Warning Track Power
  13. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:31 PM) Should I blame Sandy for "putting the glove in the wrong spot"? Maybe if our starting pitchers didn't have to nibble with every batter they face, we wouldn't have to rely on the umpire to give us a couple of inches off the corner.
  14. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) Respectable damage control, but 1st inning runs blow...take you out of the game. When's the last time we scored more than one run in the first inning?
  15. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) another strike that wasn't called. Sandy sets up too far off the plate. It's been happening in every game since he's been here. Pitchers are hitting the glove, but he's too far off to start with.
  16. I love coming home to see this team show no heart again. Even Ed Farmer was saying how flat this team is.
  17. If we're going to have Sweeney in LF and Anderson in CF, I wouldn't mind an offensive upgrade at SS.
  18. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 09:57 PM) It depends on what the sox want to do at leadoff. Coco Crisp could be had for Freddy. Or the sox might go for a SS to leadoff--though few fit that bill that teams want to part with. No way will the Red Sox trade Crisp for Garcia. The Red Sox are going to be in the market to acquire starting pitching this offseason, but they're not going to settle for a medicore pitcher like Garcia has looked this year. Their fans are going nuts regarding their starting pitching, and rumors are that Theo's going to be making a lot of blockbuster moves this offseason (bye bye Manny?).
  19. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 09:37 PM) The difference in defense is too slight for the money he'd make [$2.2 mill this yr and likely to get more as a FA]. The sox would be better off letting Sweeney progress in LF than spend money on a guy like Byrnes who may hurt the sox w/ his glove more than he'd help hit vs LHP. Who's out there? Usually I'd agree with you that it's easy to find that righty platoon outfielder, but judging by this year, it seems like it's impossible to find that type of player. I'm actually coming around to the idea of getting Mathews Jr. to play LF next season (and then move to RF in 2008).
  20. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Energy is one thing. Talent is another. Byrnes is a hack defensive OFer, that turns routine plays into highlight reel catches. I'm not sure he's better than Ozuna in LF. People rightfully complain about the Sox OF defense. Byrnes won't help. Byres isn't a great defensive player, but he's at least serviceable out there. That's a lot more than you can say about Ozuna and Pods. However, I don't think he'll be as cheap of an option as many people think. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a 2 yr, 9 million dollar contract this offseason.
  21. QUOTE(beck72 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 09:11 PM) No Byrnes. He's not worth it for under $1 mill let alone his salary He'd easily be our 2nd best overall outfielder this season. He has the type of energy that this team is lacking this season (besides Ozuna).
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) There are going to be a few idiots who blame Williams, but if the Sox fail to make the post season, IMO its ALL on the players and staff. Williams built a WS club, and ADDED to it in 06. Anything can happen from year to year, but we should be talking about setting up the playoff rotation right now. Instead we are talking about how are starters make way too much money for the efforts they have been giving.... The ONLY real complaint I have regarding KW is his inability to add a 4th outfielder (righty) to the team this year that can play LF/CF. I hated the Vazquez deal, but I can completely understand why the deal was made. As someone else said, we can find about 20 other members of the organization to complain about before KW's name would even come up.
  23. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:10 AM) I heard Flash will be there as well. Make sure they meet up. I thought Flash has to be 100 yards from Broadway at all times?
  24. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:07 AM) I kind of see that, but without Liriano they lost half of the reason that they got so hot, and now there left to one incredible pitcher and a surging offense to carry them which is pretty much what we have anyways(if you combine some guys they probably equal santana eventually), so outside of head-to-head matchups I don't think its time to panic Good post....we need to find a way for our offense to start clicking again. It's amazing the production that the Twins are getting from so many no-named guys like Tyner, Bartlett, Punto, Redmond, etc.
