QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 04:58 AM) We should trade for him. Ozzie would have let him at least stay for the 5th to qualify for the win. That's tremendous!
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 04:59 AM) "We have enough veteran leadership to know to tip your hat to that guy, but tomorrow is another day, and we'll come out ready to play. Just by the way we've played this team this year is confidence in itself." Well, that's 4 times now out of our last 5 losses where we tipped our cap to the starting pitcher. Pretty soon, we need our offense to step up and put up some more runs no matter who's on the mound. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 05:01 AM) my point was that if inconsistency has given us a lead, why will inconsistency suddenly blow it? I think people are worried that we'll continue to play .500 ball the rest of the way (like we've been doing since the ASB), and the Twins will continue to play at such a high rate.

Why hasn't Fields played for the last few days? Also, my brother will have a front row seat for Broadway's game this wknd. I'll make sure to get the scouting report.

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 04:51 AM) but this board is acting like its the apocalypse, when its not. The team has shown that it will not be consistent, but if inconsistency has brought us to where we are now, why should we have any reason to believe we will suddenly collapse and fall out of contention just because we aren't playing better than we did recently? I went back and read every post, and in this three page thread, there was only one comment that said the division is over. There was not a single post that said this team has no chance to make the playoffs.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 04:38 AM) Obviously you guys are right, the mighty Twins are headed straight to the World Series and the White Sox are the only team with real weaknesses. I honestly can't thank you all enough for pointing this out to me. How blind I've been! Now I can stop following this team and stop posting on this website, and maybe do something more worthwhile with the last couple of months of my summer Apologies for all the wasted time, mods please delete this thread While you are at it, please delete my account I'm pretty f***ing sure I'm never coming back to this place We're not allowed to point out inaccurate statements? All I was saying is that if we're going to say negative things about the Twins, Carlos Silva isn't a reason to bash them right now. I wasn't in this thread when we were discussing the negatives about the other teams. My personal opinion is that the only team that matters to us right now is the Twins. The Twins have been playing excellent baseball for about the last 70 games, and that's why they've gone from a team 10 games below .500 to a team 20 games above .500. That's quite the turn-around, and they're firing on all cylinders. We've lost 5 of our last 6 games to them, so we need to find a way to compete with them in the final 2 series of the year against them.
-
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 04:20 AM) Dude, we get it, you missed the point of the thread. Two words - Carlos Silva Yeah, Carlos Silva is so bad, the Twins have only managed to win 6 of his last 7 starts. If Don Cooper was evaluating him, he'd say you can't complain about him. Silva has given up 21 ER over his last 39 innings. Wouldn't that make him our 2nd best starter over that stretch?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 03:18 AM) I'm gonna barf the next time somebody claims Kenny traded a top 20 prospect in hopes of getting back a typical #5 starter -- especially one that makes as much paper as Javy does. Preach on

Ron Santo was on the radio, and he guaranteed there must be something seriously wrong with him. Hopefully he's ok, as I don't think Santo knows much about leg injuries. Sprained ankle for Rowand
-
Quick stat I heard: When Podsednik swings and puts the first pitch of the AB into play, his batting average is about .140. That's ungodly low.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:51 AM) I'd like to know what those who are complaining about fans who recognize that this team has problems mean by "support your team". Is mindless cheerleading "support"? Is that what good fans do? I think good fans look at the team honestly, recognize its strengths and weaknesses and discuss them freely. I do get quite the laugh reading this, and then seeing your sig.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:53 AM) That's why I said "if" true. I don't really buy it. Well, stop being so damn negative.
-
This team looks absolutely fatigued. I can't even begin to count how many foul balls our hitters have hit to the opposite field. The bat speed is slowing down right now, and this is the point of the season where the adrenaline of being in a pennant race has to give you that extra boost. Unfortunately, it's nowhere to be found with our guys right now. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:49 AM) If what Melton is saying is true, how long has his back been giving him problems? If it's been a while, I'll be pissed beyond belief that we didn't get B-mac stretched out a longgggggg time ago. Where was this problem in his last start against the Tigers?
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) I think some heads have gotten rather large because of what was accomplished last year. I wish I could find the quotes from Buehrle and Crede on Friday before that first game against the Twins. They were acting like it was April or May. Buerhle said it wasn't a big series, and T. Hunter said the Twins were so amped up for it that he was nervous they'd be too intense.
-
Real simple: where's the passion and intensity on this team?

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:09 AM) Jeff Hardy on Raw...seizmic waves of the overweight emo girls marking out can be felt across the globe. Not to hijack this great thread, but I just want to propose my theory comparing Jeff Hardy with Scott Podsednik.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:32 AM) Now this is frustrating. Now we start hitting the ball the other way, and back up the middle. Why do we wait until the 9th inning to actually hit. Cause we're facing Todd Jones. -

This has been a very good game thread tonight, considering how bad the team is playing right now. Once the good posters start joining the thread, we might be able to discuss this team more efficiently. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) It was hit to deep RF, and Clevelan looked like he was ready to trip over his own feet. That was stupid of Pods. IT was either going to be a homer or a flyout. Here's another question: don't you think that in a 7-1 game, Pods should be able to just walk into 2nd base on a steal attempt if he wanted to? -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) I'm pretty sure Toronto is going to have a new manager next season. Lilly gave Gibbons a bloody nose tonight. What happened? -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:14 AM) INEXCUSABLE for Pods not to tag. I realize we're down 6 runs, but if it's beyond his heads he's on third, if it's gone -- it's gone. I didn't see the play, but the last thing we need is someone making out on the bases. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) He's not an astute player. Very poor baseball sense. It's astonishing how low his baseball IQ is. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:16 AM) Maybe I'm missing something, but does Clevelan have an arm like Zumaya? Actually, I saw him throw against Boston, and he had an absolute rocket. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 01:12 AM) Pods! (sarcasm) Just when you thought he couldn't get worse, he completely redeems himself! I wonder if Leyland will state to the media tonight that Ozzie is just jealous that a white manager beat him?
