  1. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) Some, if not most, guys who have been conditioned to start for pretty much their entire wont be much more than average out of the pen. Especially someone who's not coming out of the pen throwing 98 mph. McCarthy's a "feel" pitcher, and I don't think he's confident in his offspeed pitches coming out of the pen.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Agree or not with him, he is probably being asked the same questions day after day. Just like it comes up here every day. Sooner or later he has to respond and use Brandon's name directly. He's saying why he doesn't think he'd be a better option, and he is correct in a way when he says lots of people think McCarthy is Superman, although yeah, he could've done it without the sarcasm. Yep, McCarthy is definitely the "back-up QB" right now in terms of his reputation among fans. Like I said, I know that Ozzie isn't going to replace one of these starters unless there's an injury. I just didn't like the snide remarks he made about his performance last year. It was unnecessary, and it comes off as ungrateful for the HUGE boost McCarthy gave us last year. All he had to do is say that he believes his 5 guys right now are his best options. People might disagree with that, but Ozzie/KW and the ones that have to live with their decisions.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Ozzie's diss of McCarthy and unwillingness to put him into the rotation almost feels Dusty-like. Especially when you factor in the constant days off for Brian. Why is Ozzie so averse to using his young stars? Dusty's the opposite of Ozzie when it comes to criticizing players.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Ozzie is managing. He's showing one of his main players that he'll stick with him through his slump rather than give in to irrational rants from fans and media about an unproven kid who may be good, but may not be. People are talking about Brandon like they did about Garland 5 years ago. It took Garland 4 years to become an above .500 pitcher. Buehrle is roughly 30 games over .500 in his career. Ozzie doesn't need to check his f'in mouth. We all know that Ozzie isn't going to change the starting rotation. That's been obvious all season. But did he really have to make comments like that regarding McCarthy? I just don't get why he has to bash McCarthy for a rookie year campaign in which he improved drastically his 2nd time up from the minors.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) When did he say that? It's in the Tribune today. It's rather pathetic.
  6. I couldn't believe the Guillen quote in which he said McCarthy pitched bad for the Sox last year. Yes, he struggled out of the gate. However, he was our 2nd best pitcher for the last 1/4 of the season. Ozzie doesn't need to bash McCarthy in order to justify keeping him out of the rotation.
  7. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Two years from now, you'll have an old, slow ballclub with untradeable, overpaid veterans. If you are in the front office, you have to give a damn about baseball business. If you are just a fan, you can let your heart influence your opinions. Well said. I'm a little concerned that next year we're going to fit that same category. However, at least our old, slow players are the ones performing well this season.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:23 PM) Haha I'd have loved to see that myspace page. Lo Duca is SO screwed, the Mets are going to have to trade him or something, else he'll be eaten alive in that town. He'll be just fine. I'm more shocked when I hear that baseball players are faithful than I am when a story like this comes out. She's a hot 19 year old....his street cred just went sky high.
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:00 AM) We do have Ruben Rivera in the system. Superb comment! QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 04:06 AM) No love goes out to Ozzie, even though he did a fine job managing the bullpen late in that game (I believe at least). I said it in the game thread that I really thought he did a good job bringing in Jenks in the 9th with a guy at 3rd. I've criticized him for not showing a sense of urgency when we're trailing, but he did show that proactivity tonight.
  10. Almost a carbon copy of the Indians winner he had earlier. Awesome win! Great job Jenks.
  11. JD needs to stay back on these pitches. They're going to try and gas him up and away.
  12. That easily could have been a strike. Come on PK!
  13. Wow...great pitch. I wouldn't send Iguchi here.
  14. Thome will be in trouble if he gets 2 strikes against this guy.
  15. QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:39 AM) I'm so sick of these goddamn umps. Yep, this guy has been so inconsistent.
  16. Whew! Lets win this. It's going to take someone catching up to Proctor's fastball.
  17. Jenks fastball down to 92 mph this inning.
  18. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:36 AM) If this team could stop being retarded on the field, that would be great. Fixed
  19. Ha...this team sure likes to hang itself.
  20. Impressive inning by Proctor. Pods can't leave the Sox soon enough.
  21. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:28 AM) SCOTT PODSEDNIK WILL SAVE US!! Was this taken from the Yanks board?
  22. Two pathetic ABs so far. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:28 AM) That would entail putting a garbage can out there. If the opponent hits one into the can it will count as an out. We have a garbage can in LF right now.
