  1. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Ive heard that before and always ignored it. I cant tell you how GREAT I feel, when I see a grounder roll roll easily under the outstretched glove of a helpless cub, as the other team scores the winning run. Theres a small rush I get, I admit. I'm right there with you. I hate the Cubs, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't make last night a little more pleasant for me to see them lose. Especially after the whole s*** with Barrett and Zambrano, I'm kinda surprised that there aren't more people talking s*** about them on a regular basis. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:55 PM) I think the part I miss about Frank the most (since he can still hit hr's) would be when he would be totally overmatched at the plate as a pitcher was dead on making perfect pitches and he'd just have one of his ugly swings where he just tried to slap the ball over the 2nd baseman or 1st basemans head (or dump it into CF). He was the best I ever saw at taking a great pitchers pitch and depositing it in for an ugly single. VINTAGE FRANK. It was so odd to get burned like that last week when he had the same hit against Jeff Nelson.
  2. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) There are gaping holes in our team and they are named Politte, Anderson and Uribe. Teams aren't in the market to be trading. Realistically, only 3 teams are completely out of it already (Pitt, Florida, KC). Good luck trying to find a lot of talent on those teams that could help us out. The only person who I think would be a good fit on any of those teams, and could realistically be traded, is Roberto Hernandez. Last time I checked, his ERA was well under 2.
  3. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:33 PM) Right, and Brewers fans are credible scouts. Just like the "scouts" here at Soxtalk. :rolly I honestly don't think this should be in green. When legitimate posters on soxtalk make an observation about a player's ability, they're usually pretty well-informed. We see these players perform every single night, and we're able to form our opinion that way. And the reason that butchers in the outfield are able to play LF is that it's the easiest position in baseball. That's why guys like Manny, Pods, Adam Dunn, and C. Lee are out there. Also, if you put Pods in CF, every single to center is going to allow the runner to go from first to third.
  4. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Won't happen, but I did read Ozzie is planning to get Gload some PT on the upcoming homestand. I assume it's cause you think he won't sit Konerko. The only reason I'm hoping for this lineup is that PK is struggling right now, and lefties destroy Byrd.
  5. This is the lineup I'd like to see tonight: Pods, Iguchi, Thome, Dye, AJP, Crede, Gload, Mackowiak, Cintron
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 30, 2006 -> 04:08 AM) Well, well, welll, so suddenly everyone is on the 'Uribe's hitting sux' kick eh? I was saying it all of last year, but since he was lighting it up for a while, no one listened. There is nothing in his approach or form that should make him a good hitter. When he gets hot it's the ball hitting his bat, not the other way around. You mean the same person that so many people on soxtalk said they would hate to lose in a possible trade with Tejada?
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 03:17 PM) He misplayed a few balls in CF last year and people here stuck him with the "he sucks" tag. We're seeing the same thing now with Mackowiak (who rarely plays CF) and Ozuna (who rarely even plays). In other words, it's typical Soxtalk. Every scouting report from Milwaukee fans said that Pods absolutely sucked in CF. Not only that, but playing CF just increases the chances of him hurting himself. I'm almost positive that he hurt his groin last season in one of his rare CF appearances.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:02 PM) I am going to be different and NOT say bullpen. I have been apalled by the complete lack of fundemental baseball over the past few weeks. As a matter of a fact, I will go out on a limb and say the Sox will be on the outside looking in for the playoffs if they keep playing this style of baseball, no matter what is done with the bullpen. Well said. I agree that we're not going to make the playoffs if we continue to play the same brand of baseball, and get similar execution. We're a power hitting team who tries to play small ball, and it doesn't work that well. I absolutely hate how we try to bunt in front of Thome. He's definitely not the type of guy who's going to hit you sac flies. Rather, we should try to save the outs, and just let our 3-4-5 get as many ABs with guys on as possible. The main reason why I feel CF is our most glaring need is that we need to get some production from the bottom of the order. If you start getting guys on for the top of the order, that's when we can get big innings going.
  9. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I watched last nites game, and Im not sure if the guys are tired, or what. Hafner hit a smoking shot towards DYE, and he misjudged it, having let it bounce over his head (he wouldve had it). Luckily, he didnt score. There was another shot hit towards Mackowiak, and he totally misplayed it and it went soaring over his head for extra bases. These guys have to turn it up a notch ...........way too much of this the last month, and uncharacteristic. Defense has lost us a couple games already this year.. In both instances, why not blame Garcia for throwing meatballs down the plate to great hitters? Both of those balls were rockets. Dye had no chance on Hafner's double, and Sizemore's triple was hit very hard. Yes, our defense over the past few weeks has sucked (it started in the 6th inning of the Sunday Cubs game, and it seems like everyone has had some issues....besides Anderson).
  10. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:41 AM) has he given up any earned runs? >i dont know why hes struggling so much this season. supposebly he doesnt have enough confidence.he had a GREAT season last year and pitched in the f***in playoffs. how much more confidence do u need?? I think if you asked everyone on this site who was the one player they were sure wouldn't match their numbers from last season, it was Politte. According to one statistic, he was the luckiest pitcher in all of baseball last season. Just be grateful he was so good for us last season.
  11. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:40 AM) Politte is getting hit hard. On the Score today they were pimping that Kenny wants Cesar Izturus who is still rehabbing. That he is on Kennys radar. KW's going to have to give up a lot more than Izturis is worth if we trade for him. I'm not a fan of Izturis, especially after his major surgery.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:37 AM) And Texas would trade him because? I don't think they would. I brought him up earlier because DAllen mentioned his name. I think Anderson's struggles have really put us in a hole, and there's not much we can do about it.
  13. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:34 AM) Well from what I know he's been on a lot of teams since he's been in the league and his career BA is under .250. Why should I be impressed? His OPS over his last 2 1/3 seasons is easily over .800, he plays a very good defensive CF, is a switch hitter, and is a great team player.
  14. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:33 AM) Our starting pitching has been s***ty outside of Vazquez on Monday since the As series. Back to back crap games for Garcia. Garcia wasn't going to keep facing struggling hitting teams like the Cubs and Angels.
  15. I don't give a s*** what you guys all say. I was able to trade for Sizemore for my XBox season.
  16. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:31 AM) So far Lew Ford, Gary Matthews and Ryan Church don't sound like much to me. How can you not think that GM Jr. wouldn't be a huge addition? He's definitely better than what we have right now. However, I can't see the Rangers trading him.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:22 AM) Sounds a lot like a SSH/Jabroni post. Just saying. Did something happen to SSH while I was gone?
  18. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:20 AM) He is making awesome pitches tonight. Knibbling the corners, making sinkerballs strikes when he has to. He has effectively taken our offense out of any rythmn. Sinker ballers always gives us, and other power teams, problems when they're keeping the ball down. We're not the type of team to put together 4 straight hits the opposite way, etc.
  19. QUOTE(ThinWhiteDuque @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) When you have two other position players hitting like pitchers (SS, CF), you can't afford to have Vince Coleman in your lineup as well. 80 pct of the teams would gladly trade their leadoff hitter for what Pods gives a team. It's not Pods fault that we can't produce offensive talent from our minors, and Uribe is clueless at the plate.
  20. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) I know you said it earlier this year. We've all been saying it. It still really hasn't felt like this team has fired on all cylinders. We saw what the pitching was capable of last year. It doesn't seem like we've had that going at the same time as the offense. Do you think the pitching's going to come around to the point it's dominant though? We've faced almost all of the worst hitting teams in the AL already. Everyone knows the Cell becomes a launching pad when it gets hot out.
  21. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) How can you not be a fan of Pods after what he has done the last year and a half? I just don't understand it. I think it's cause of the Sizemore vs Pods argument with you. Pods is actually one of my favorite players off the field. I just think that for a speed player, he's very poor fundamentally.
  22. Quick question....why does Hawk keep saying we haven't clicked all year? We had like 6 guys in the lineup hot at the same time for 3 weeks. Not many teams get that fortunate the whole season.
  23. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:16 AM) Whatever you say man. lol His .371 OBP is just fine by me. His job is to get on base. He is not a hole in the lineup. I'm not a fan of Pods, but he's the least of our worries right now. He's been doing a terrific job lately.
  24. QUOTE(Chet @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:15 AM) You think in September, we will regret that we once rooted for NY to beat Detroit? Hopefully, we won't be worrying about the Wild Card though. That's a fantastic point. I'm still much more concerned about the Indians in the long run, even though I think the Tigers are a good team.
  25. Is it being a bad fan to hope Politte gets rocked here, and makes the Sox consider another pitching roster move?
