  1. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Is this the same Tampa Bay that can never make a trade during the Trade Deadline because they overvalue all of their players? Yet they are going to trade Huff and a reliever for Rowand and El Duque...funny stuff They do have a new General Manager, but unless that GM is a 3 yr old girl, I don't think anyone on this planet would do that trade.
  2. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) didn't arow come all the way from center and end up making that play? That's a different game. This was with 2 outs in the 9th, and then Crisp hit a chop double over PK's head. Hermanson retired Hafner to end the game. I've never seen someone end up missing a ball by as much as Pods did on that play.
  3. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) You've got to get more than a lefty reliever for Rowand. I wouldn't mind the Sox packaging Rowand and El Duque to pick up Aubrey Huff + a reliever from Tampa. Tampa would laugh in our face at that deal. They already have a plethora of young outfielders, and they're not going to trade their main bargaining chip for two below average players.
  4. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) They both deserved it. PK and Frank do not. And never will. Sometimes it's better to be the bigger man, and just thank the players for their service with the organization. Ordonez and Lee were two of the best offensive players in Sox history. I don't think I was the only one disappointed in how the Sox seemed to take the scorned lover approach last offseason in regards to those guys.
  5. I'm not accusing him, but I think MLB executives would like to see Rowand put up better offensive numbers in a post-2004 baseball era before they start trading away important pieces of their franchise.
  6. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) I'll see if I can find the article, although I'm not sure which paper it was in. I remember hearing about the story. I think we can all agree that if someone like Frank or PK doesn't come back, that we'd much rather see articles praising them for their time with the Sox instead of the basic smear campaign that happened with Ordonez and CLee last year.
  7. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:23 PM) Pods takes bad angles in the outfield but he still gets to way more balls than Carlos Lee would ever imagine getting to. Pods gets to more balls to the left and right of him, but Carlos was better on deep fly balls as well as charging the ball to get a throw off quicker. Basically, neither of them should expect a call on the day the Gold Glove is announced.
  8. With Lee's fly ball tendencies, the Red Sox should be all over him when he becomes a FA. The short porch would also improve his defense (even though he's just as good as Pods is in the field if you ask me).
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 05:40 AM) How the f*** do you know that? There's not a single high-major team that runs a 100 pct clean program. Just from the colleges I went to undergrad/grad school for, I could tell you more than enough to get both schools put on probation for decades. It happens EVERYWHERE!
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Just say no... To Ichiro. And why's that? Don't forget what impact he has on the Japanese market. One of the main reasons that Seattle has had great attendance, even in down years, is that Ichiro is a huge drawing card. You put him and Iguchi on the same team, and you'd have quite the marketing opportunity. Also...wouldn't it be fun to see Hawk just mix their names left and right? Maybe we could add So Taguchi also as our back-up outfielder.
  11. I'd trade Pods, along with others, for Ichiro in a heartbeat.
  12. Chris Young could hit a walk-off grand slam in Game 7 of the 2008 World Series, and it would never match my excitement level that took place when PK hit that slam in Game 2, etc. The first is definitely the sweetest and the best. Now, it's time for the White Sox to continue to be an ass-kicking machine with a loaded pitching staff.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) How do you know this? What is his ankle heals fine, just like it is being reported? A man with Frank's size doesn't just drastically recover from two major injuries like that to be 100 pct. He even talked this season about how he could barely run, and how much it hurt him. I think we're fooling ourselves to think he can be as healthy as a 25 year old player. If KW brings him back next season, he better have a contingency plan if Thomas gets hurt again.
  14. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) If all works out Frank will be 100% going into next year..... he was a ? this season anyways and everyone knew that.... now he should be ready to go for spring training. He's never going to be 100 pct again. At best, he'll be able to play 5 times a week.
  15. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE! Is this Hawk being very awkward in the chanting of Paulie at the parade?
  16. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) Resigning Konerko has become more important from a PR standpoint as opposed to an on-the-field standpoint. The Sox would probably like to maintain the momentum of winning the World Series with keeping what looks to be the team's most popular player. I just hope the Sox don't do something insane like sacrifice our starting pitching (short-term or long-term) in an effort to keep Konerko. Gammons said a few days ago that KW was going to trade a starting pitcher in order to free up payroll to sign PK.
  17. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) Nobody has to own up to anything unless they tried to bring down this forum with their constant b****ing and moaning, and I could think of quite a few who would qualify. You can't just brush it off and say 'I was wrong' or 'I'm an idiot' or 'I'm eating crow'. It would be best if you just disappeared. I b****ed and moaned a lot, but unlike some others on this board, I at least tried to give information and reasoning for why I was saying what I did. Obviously, Ozzie was my biggest target during the season to criticize. It would be awfully foolish for me to continue on that path now....even though I still don't think he's the greatest in-game manager. But who the f*** cares now, even the greatest in-game strategists of all time might be unable to win a World Series. The other main complaint I had during the season was that it was never a given that this team would win the division, even when we were up 15 games. I took a lot of heat for that, and it got closer than even I thought it would. Was I wrong? Yes. Was a lot of my reasoning for why I was worried correct? Tough to say, but obviously I was on to something with how much of that lead diminished. The White Sox won the World Series. Who gives a s*** if people have to own up, etc. If that really impacts how much you can enjoy this, then I feel bad for some people.
  18. I avoided saying anything about this in the playoffs out of fear of jinxing him, but it's amazing that a pitcher who throws a lot of high fastballs only gave up ONE homer this season (a homer to J. Dubois that didn't matter).
  19. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Are you saying that because you think it's too much money for PK, or because that's not competitive enough with what other teams will offer? I would be happy if PK accepted that, just as long as there isn't a no-trade clause included. Structure the contract something like 10.5/11.5/12.5/13.5, and spin him for something else after the 2nd year of the deal, which is right before he becomes a 10-5 player. He'll get more money/years than that.
  20. I don't know if anyone has said this elsewhere, but the Sun-Times thought we're going to offer him 4/48 next week. If that's the case......time to find a new 1B.
  21. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) a little insulting to PK to compare him to Beltran, don't you think? Not in the slightest. If anything, it's a compliment. Beltran will rebound next season, as he was injured most of this year. Beltran got a huge deal not only for what he did in the postseason, because people expected him to be in his peak years during the length of the contract.
  22. As each day passes, it seems more and more likely it's not a White Sox player. That's great news, no matter how credible this story is.
  23. QUOTE(IITsox @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Manny in left, Rowand in right, Podsednik moves to center. For those who belive Podsednik would butcher center, his 2003 and 2004 fielding statistics show that he actually played better in center in Milwakee than in left in Chicago. Also, his fielding percentages in Milwaukee are nearly identical to Rowand's fielding percentage in 2005. Pods is a terrible CF. Not only that, but Rowand would go from being an above-average CF to an average RF with a poor arm.
  24. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) That is not true in my opinion. That being said, the market for him will always be stronger for a team midseason when they are more desperate. I think Orlando is an intriguing option if you are a team like Washington, to reunite the brothers in a pitchers park, or Florida who could use a Cuban star and a flyball pitcher in that park. If we were to trade for Delgado, Hernandez would likely be a piece as some salary back there way. I wouldn't be surprised if Duque has surgery in the new few months on his shoulder. I'm also thinking that Hermanson might possibly require surgery.
  25. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) If the Sox replaced Konerko with a viable replacement -- such as Manny -- the fanbase, IMO, wouldn't be in arms. I agree with that completely. However, it's not very likely that there would be a viable superstar available that we could get to replace PK. The point I was trying to make is that the Sox don't just draw people because of their name like the Yanks, Red Sox, and Cubs do. I think the much more important aspect of something like Manny saying he might want to play for the Sox is that it would be great for the organization if this becomes a place where MLB players WANT to play. Ozzie could almost become a recruiter for latino players to come play here. It's too bad that Johan signed that extension already! Next stop....Miguel Cabrera
