  1. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:15 AM) How do you know this? What is his ankle heals fine, just like it is being reported? A man with Frank's size doesn't just drastically recover from two major injuries like that to be 100 pct. He even talked this season about how he could barely run, and how much it hurt him. I think we're fooling ourselves to think he can be as healthy as a 25 year old player. If KW brings him back next season, he better have a contingency plan if Thomas gets hurt again.
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) If all works out Frank will be 100% going into next year..... he was a ? this season anyways and everyone knew that.... now he should be ready to go for spring training. He's never going to be 100 pct again. At best, he'll be able to play 5 times a week.
  3. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE, PAULIE! Is this Hawk being very awkward in the chanting of Paulie at the parade?
  4. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) Resigning Konerko has become more important from a PR standpoint as opposed to an on-the-field standpoint. The Sox would probably like to maintain the momentum of winning the World Series with keeping what looks to be the team's most popular player. I just hope the Sox don't do something insane like sacrifice our starting pitching (short-term or long-term) in an effort to keep Konerko. Gammons said a few days ago that KW was going to trade a starting pitcher in order to free up payroll to sign PK.
  5. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 02:09 AM) Nobody has to own up to anything unless they tried to bring down this forum with their constant b****ing and moaning, and I could think of quite a few who would qualify. You can't just brush it off and say 'I was wrong' or 'I'm an idiot' or 'I'm eating crow'. It would be best if you just disappeared. I b****ed and moaned a lot, but unlike some others on this board, I at least tried to give information and reasoning for why I was saying what I did. Obviously, Ozzie was my biggest target during the season to criticize. It would be awfully foolish for me to continue on that path now....even though I still don't think he's the greatest in-game manager. But who the f*** cares now, even the greatest in-game strategists of all time might be unable to win a World Series. The other main complaint I had during the season was that it was never a given that this team would win the division, even when we were up 15 games. I took a lot of heat for that, and it got closer than even I thought it would. Was I wrong? Yes. Was a lot of my reasoning for why I was worried correct? Tough to say, but obviously I was on to something with how much of that lead diminished. The White Sox won the World Series. Who gives a s*** if people have to own up, etc. If that really impacts how much you can enjoy this, then I feel bad for some people.
  6. I avoided saying anything about this in the playoffs out of fear of jinxing him, but it's amazing that a pitcher who throws a lot of high fastballs only gave up ONE homer this season (a homer to J. Dubois that didn't matter).
  7. QUOTE(3E8 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) Are you saying that because you think it's too much money for PK, or because that's not competitive enough with what other teams will offer? I would be happy if PK accepted that, just as long as there isn't a no-trade clause included. Structure the contract something like 10.5/11.5/12.5/13.5, and spin him for something else after the 2nd year of the deal, which is right before he becomes a 10-5 player. He'll get more money/years than that.
  8. I don't know if anyone has said this elsewhere, but the Sun-Times thought we're going to offer him 4/48 next week. If that's the case......time to find a new 1B.
  9. QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) a little insulting to PK to compare him to Beltran, don't you think? Not in the slightest. If anything, it's a compliment. Beltran will rebound next season, as he was injured most of this year. Beltran got a huge deal not only for what he did in the postseason, because people expected him to be in his peak years during the length of the contract.
  10. As each day passes, it seems more and more likely it's not a White Sox player. That's great news, no matter how credible this story is.
  11. QUOTE(IITsox @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 11:25 PM) Manny in left, Rowand in right, Podsednik moves to center. For those who belive Podsednik would butcher center, his 2003 and 2004 fielding statistics show that he actually played better in center in Milwakee than in left in Chicago. Also, his fielding percentages in Milwaukee are nearly identical to Rowand's fielding percentage in 2005. Pods is a terrible CF. Not only that, but Rowand would go from being an above-average CF to an average RF with a poor arm.
  12. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:39 PM) That is not true in my opinion. That being said, the market for him will always be stronger for a team midseason when they are more desperate. I think Orlando is an intriguing option if you are a team like Washington, to reunite the brothers in a pitchers park, or Florida who could use a Cuban star and a flyball pitcher in that park. If we were to trade for Delgado, Hernandez would likely be a piece as some salary back there way. I wouldn't be surprised if Duque has surgery in the new few months on his shoulder. I'm also thinking that Hermanson might possibly require surgery.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) If the Sox replaced Konerko with a viable replacement -- such as Manny -- the fanbase, IMO, wouldn't be in arms. I agree with that completely. However, it's not very likely that there would be a viable superstar available that we could get to replace PK. The point I was trying to make is that the Sox don't just draw people because of their name like the Yanks, Red Sox, and Cubs do. I think the much more important aspect of something like Manny saying he might want to play for the Sox is that it would be great for the organization if this becomes a place where MLB players WANT to play. Ozzie could almost become a recruiter for latino players to come play here. It's too bad that Johan signed that extension already! Next stop....Miguel Cabrera
  14. My prediction is that the Red Sox trade for T. Hunter in the offseason after the Yankees sign Damon.
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Boston's rotation is full of league average pitchers who are paid much more heavily than Duque. Perhaps I think too much of his value, but you are underestimating it. Like I said. If Boston rejects that deal, FINE. Move on. It just so happened that many of Boston's needs (CF, SP, and RP) are players that we could easily replace. There will be other teams that would be happy to have those players I mentioned. You really see Boston taking a chance on a pitcher with an enormous injury history after the health problems they had last year? If they're going to invest 5 million in a pitcher next season, they're going to find someone who they're sure can give them more than 20 starts. I can see the Red Sox or Rangers going after Loaiza. Remember, the Red Sox are big on stats. Marte isn't exactly their ideal lefty reliever with his splits.
  16. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Neither do I, but Cheats certainly onto something. Onto, or do you just mean "on" something?
  17. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) I don't care about the White Sox fan base or the Chicago fan base or however you want to put it. All fan bases are the same, they want to win. You make the decision that betters the team for both the present and the future, and that is final. Lets not compare the Bulls to the White Sox either, you know full well it was a completely different situation. Red Sox could let Manny, Pedro, and Damon go after last season, and the Red Sox fans would have still shown up. If KW would let PK, Frank, and Garland go after this season, the fan base would be up in arms. The Red Sox have enough money that they can let one superstar go, and just sign another. The White sox have a much better chance of signing a superstar that is within the organization, and not having to outbid other teams on an even playing surface. And while the Bulls/Sox situation is different, it's still the same owner. Not every fan is like me, you, SSH, or any other diehard who will support their team no matter what transactions they make. And don't ever same all fan bases are the same. The two Chicago teams are perfect illustrations.
  18. No team in baseball will trade for Duque to be a starting rotation pitcher. He has serious health questions, and his contract isn't exactly cheap this season. Rowand/Marte/Duque would get you laughed at by Theo. To get Manny, it would more be like Contreras and Chris Young for Manny.
  19. If PK leaves, the Sox need to bring in a big name replacement. Manny will cost too much money. Guys like Dunn or Teixeira, or even possibly Griffey Jr., are more likely options.
  20. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) give me one reason why making a statement is more important than putting a winning product on the field. I think your mindset is extremely off and please, please, please stick to the topic. By making a statement of signing PK to a deal, you should the fans you're not just content with winning one World Series. Rather, it shows them you want to maintain the team's talent level, and won't just rest on your previous season's accomplishments. Don't forget this....JR took a lot of s*** for breaking up the Bulls dynasty. Even though that's a different situation we're talking about, I don't think he wants any questions about letting the core of his WS team leave. I know you're a young fella who hasn't lived in Chicago all your life. Maybe you should just trust what some people who have lived quite a while longer than you have and in Chicago all their life talk to you about the White Sox fan base mentality.
  21. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) ...and what Pedro Martinez wasn't extremely popular in Boston? I think the Red Sox situation last year, and the Konerko situation this year is quite similar. People move on, people forget, and if the true baseball fans such as you and I can live with the fact that Kenny Williams stood strong and made the right move, I think that in itself is a more important statement. Pedro had worn out his welcome with many in the Red Sox organization. The exact opposite is true with PK. Konerko has never been more popular in Chicago than he is today. Please, please, please stop comparing everything with the White Sox to the Red Sox. It's a complete different fan base, and completely different mindsets. Stick to talking about the Red Sox fan base, and we'll keep discussing the White Sox fan base.
  22. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) So Kenny Williams overpays for Konerko simply to make a statement to a few "dumb baseball fans" who might think poorly of the organization if they let him go? You have to make the right move and forget about statements and pleasing "dumb baseball fans" if you are not only a smart general manager, but a smart organization. Sadly, that is part of the whole PK Quandry. There are possible huge public relations consequences if PK goes elsewhere. There's more to a player than just how many homers or rbi they contribute. PK has become the common fans favorite Sox player in the last few months.
  23. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) Well then Manny moves to right. That they're not going to just settle for winning the WS. After letting Ordonez, Carlos, and possibly Frank leave, they'd be bringing back the star of the organization. There's a lot of dumb baseball fans in the city that might think poorly of the organization if they don't bring back PK.
  24. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) ...but are willing to pay $15 million for a player who isn't as good? I don't want the Sox to pay 15 mil for PK, but there's a lot more that PK brings to the table than just homers and rbi like Manny. Signing PK to a big money contract would be a statement by KW.
  25. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Dye is a better outfielder than Ramirez, but if Ramirez replacing Dye makes the outfield the worst in baseball, than last years outfield defensively was one of the worst five in baseball anyways. As SSH just mentioned, Pods in RF would be a disaster. You'd basically have an outfield where two of the guys would be better off as the DH.
