  1. Here's another underrated play in terms of impact on the Sox success. The whole PK "BS" missed liner against Michael Ryan that allowed the Twins to tie the game in the 9th. That freak play allowed Jenks the chance to close the game in the next inning. Who knows if he would have been allowed to close a game and get some experience in the role prior to the postseason.
  2. I know there's other threads about this, but I think it's amazing that you can argue that 23 of the 25 players on the Sox postseason roster made a significant contribution that helped them win a game in the playoffs. Only Hermanson and Timo didn't have a true positive moment. That's amazing to think of the "team" effort that happened this season.
  3. The question I'm still waiting to be answered would be: What's the rule about players being allowed to advance if Uribe would have ended up completely in the crowd? I can't recall if it's one or two bases. I remember Carlos Pena having that happen to him a few years ago vs the Sox.
  4. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) Not an underrated play but just something that seemed so little in spring training: how about Aaron being in center when it was talked about that Scotty would be the centerfielder when he was first traded here. I was just thinking about that, how something seemingly so small could have made a huge difference. And there were a lot of people on here who were screaming that it would be the wrong decision to have Pods in CF. The stability that this team had almost all season on the field is remarkable, with only the Frank injury changing the dynamic for more than 15 or so games.
  5. In my opinion, the one play that sticks out in my mind that got the Sox on such a roll late in the season was Everett's big 2 RBI triple in the 3rd game against the Tigers. Up to that point, the Sox looked as tight as can be, and if you remember, were just brutal with RISP in that series. After that hit, it seemed the floodgates opened up, and we went on to win 16 of our last 17 games.
  6. QUOTE(rangercal @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) I remember you were happy to just make the playoffs. But we won it all. Ozzie said it best, it was not his dream, it was his goal. Maybe Ozzie does not make all the right decisions, but, he got the ultimate results. Like I said during the hardest days in aug/sept , I would want no other manager for this team. There were two reasons I just wanted to make the playoffs: First, I felt that if this team didn't make it and choked away the huge lead, it would have set back the franchise for a few years. Second, I thought that if this team made the playoffs, you never know what can happen and maybe this team can make a run. The only time I really criticized Ozzie during the World Series was when he brought Hermanson in, instead of Jenks. Do I still think it was the wrong decision? Yes I do. Does it matter now? NO!
  7. Konerko's slam was th emost excited I've ever been for an actual play during the game. It was such a surreal moment.
  8. QUOTE(rangercal @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:07 PM) Ozzie Guillen , World Series Champion. Maybe you might want to go back and look at who was the first poster to congratulate Ozzie when the Sox made the playoffs. I disagreed with a lot of his decisions this season, but there's no possible way you can argue with the final result. Does it mean he was right with every decision he made? HELL NO! However, he'll forever be a legend in this town, and I actually think it would be bad for the franchise if he retired now like he said he would (which we all know he won't).
  9. All I have to say is this is my favorite site to discuss my favorite team. Thanks to all the mods, posters, etc. that make it so great.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 05:03 AM) That's good to hear. And it can only help the Sox when it comes to things like FA's, because you know players will want to play for Ozzie. Absolutely. As one of his biggest critics, it would actually be bad for the growth of this franchise if he left after this year.
  11. He just said he's staying. His "reason" is that he can't wait to manage in Pittsburgh for the All-Star game, the home of Roberto Clemente, his idol.
  12. How many bases does the runner advance if the fielder falls all the way into the crowd?
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:54 AM) Ozzie is not happy with Rowand playing so deep. I get the feeling Rowand doesn't like Jenks. He's had some issues in CF with him on the mound.
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:48 AM) Jenks is coming in. Personally, I would have stayed with Cotts. Blow them away Bobby. We've never seen Cotts in a save situation.
  15. No matter what happens, going to Jenks is the right call.
  16. If Rowand is on the Sox next year, he should never get the bunt signal. He has a better chance to hit a squibber to 2nd base.
  17. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:42 AM) They said earlier Jenks was only available for a batter or 2. I guarantee you that he would love to start the 9th.
  18. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:38 AM) LEAVE. IN. COTTS. If Jenks is feeling ok, you go to him. He's had good success vs Lane in this series.
  19. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:37 AM) Why did he backhand that, even though he got him? I don't think he's very comfortable on this field. That was a very nice play though, so who cares!
  20. GREAT JOB NEAL! It's going to be Jenks in the 9th!
  21. Wow, that ball looked like it could have been a gapper off the bat.
