If KW thinks we can hold off a superior talented Indians team the rest of the way, more power to him. It's his ass on the line, not ours.

Indians have the lead again, and our threatening to score more runs. Their offense is simply amazing right now. At least they face Johan this weekend.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) I thought it was odd, given how McCarthy has been handled by Texas and how long this game had been scheduled, that they didn't have BMac pitch in Seattle and back everyone up a day. Don't forget Garcia's struggles against the Mariners this year.

QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:31 AM) I am afraid that this 2 run deficit will be enough already... :puke It would be the first time in a month we've won after trailing by 2 or more.

QUOTE(quickman @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) but we don't need anymore offensive players. Look we don't match up well with these guys. mcarthy will get his ass handed to him tommorrow. its unfortunate. This game will get out of hand in a hurry. Look on the brightside, we will get to see the great baj! Yep, at Texas, we don't match-up very well at all. You have to be able to outslug teams once in a while to win games. The thing is, we're facing some real poor pitching this week in Texas. Even a medicore offense should be able to score a good amount of runs. I'm not giving up hope for tonight though....go Tigers!

Someone might want to let Buehrle know he's not facing the Twins offense tonight!

QUOTE(That funky motion @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) Look like it going to be one of those nights! :headshake But didn't we have one of those nights yesterday?

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) A team like Texas, Wash, Cinncy, maybe even the team like the Dodgers would be interested in El Duque. With his injury history, you'd have to think they'd be very cautious. And if they did accept him in a trade, we likely wouldn't get much in return. Also, don't forget that Ozzie LOVES Duque, and hasn't always been very happy with Contreras. Contreras is a much more attractive chip on the market...to go along with Marte.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) But most people don't realize it. I think that's what he meant by "underrated". Bingo

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 08:52 AM) So in the end, the Cubs turned Jason DuBois, a guy they essentially wanted to just dump, into a very solid leadoff hitter, setting themselves up to make a run. After that run did not materialize, they then traded Lawton for a 21 year old starter in A who has put up very solid numbers this year. That is not bad trading right there I disagree. Dubois is a big time power prospect, and the Cubs ran him off cause he struggled in the field. With his power at Wrigley, he would have hit 30 homers a year if given the chance to start 140 games.
-
No one will trade for Duque. I'll be shocked if Contreras is back. Many teams would be willing to take a risk on him with one year left on his deal and hopes he can become their ace.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) And they DID! I'm not worried about the tribe making up 9 games in the loss column. They'd have to stay redhot and the Sox would have to revert to their mid-August form. I just don't think either is going to happen. With the exception of Millwood, they don't have the pitching to sustain them. They're outslugging teams right now. Remember the last few years when the Sox used to do that? C.C. is pitching very good now, and Cliff Lee has actually been solid this year. I would have never guessed that Westbrook would be their worst starter. Their bullpen is so underrated though.

Griffey Jr.: 'I'm not going' to the White Sox

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) It sure sounded like that when you said 'Todd Walker is underrated defensively', and in the Bellhorn thread, that 'Mark Bellhorn is bad defensively'. Well, that's pretty ignorant. Then again, I guess I should've considered the source. Wow, nice personal attack there. Classy! I'm just going to refrain from coming back with a comment about you. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 12:01 AM) Isnt AJ a UFA? Can someone find me a link to his status?? With the $$$ thing, like I have said earlier in threads, NO ONE in Sox management knew they were going to have 20+ sellouts this year. Who knows how many games we will for the playoffs(if we get there )and I would have to expect a little increase in ticket sales. Moreover, if the Sox were to get bumped out in the 1st round pretty easy, which could happen very easily, I am truly confident in Ownership and KW that they would try to put us over the top for 2006 after a very dissipointing 2005 season(if we got knocked out 1st round.) We have arbitraton rights to AJP this season. You can bet your ass he'll be back. I still won't believe a major increase in payroll until I see it.
-
The Indians are playing with as much confidence as any team I've seen in a long time in regards to competing throughout the entire game. On the other hand, we haven't come back from a deficit of more than one this entire month. We need to discover our offensive fire, and soon. We're playing some good hitting teams this week compared to the poor hitting teams of last week.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:55 PM) We're going to have a s***load of money to spend in the offseason and not a whole bunch of holes to fill. Tony, good point about a 3rd baseman but I do think you'll see the sox in on Furcal because he's become a very good shortstop this year(errors are way down) and he can absolutely fly, fits into the whole ozzieball thing. Just a hunch but I think you see the sox go hard after Furcal in the offseason. How do you figure we're going to have a lot of money? Unless we don't resign PK and trade someone like Contreras, I think you're only going to see minor additions to this team. We have a lot of money to be paid to guys like Garland and AJP.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:49 PM) ??? Ok. I'll still trust 80 pairs of eyes than one pair... Who cares if you've never heard of it? Drop it. I could care less what this "poll" says. I don't get where you ever thought I said Walker was better defensively than Bellhorn. We need HITTING, and Walker is better than that. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) I would rather have Todd Walker on my team than Willie Harris who was recalled today as Crede went on the DL. The White Sox need to pick up someone who can hit or there will be no joy at the end of this baseball season. Super, another weak hitting infielder on the Sox. -
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Think about how the Tribe felt watching us the 1st half. True, but we were never coming back from 5 run deficits seemingly every other day. I believe I heard the Indians have come back from deficits of 4 or more runs like 5 times this month.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:46 PM) what kind of fortune are we talking about here? any projected figures? 4/40

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) What makes the fans scouting report different than your opinion? Uh, 'cause there's about 80 of them who said that Bellhorn is average defensively at second, and about 15 who said that Walker is awful on defense. And then there's you and your opinion. And like I said, it's all based on reputation, in my opinion. I've never heard of this "fan scouting report" before. Walker had a terrible reputation for his defense in Boston. -
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) To be honest, I'd be shocked if the sox aren't big time players in the Furcal sweepstakes. He's going to cost a fortune, and I don't see us outbidding the Cubs if the Braves can't sign him.
-
Why do I continue to get my hopes up that the Indians won't come back in every game? It's like watching a Hulk Hogan match, and thinking he's going to lose after getting the finisher done on him.
-
Well, Dmitri just contributed to the Sox. He's already done more for us than Griffey Jr. ever did. Lets go Bonderman! BTW, it sure takes the sting off of Sox losses these days if the Indians lose also.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) The people who see Mark Bellhorn play on a regular basis say that he's average defensively, which is a better grade than Walker got. Well, what makes "the people's" view any different than mine. I would say that has more to do with Walker's poor reputation more than anything else. As a matter of fact, Walker was much, much better defensively than Hairston was this season at 2nd base for the Cubs. I guarantee you that Hairston has a better reputation on the fan's scouting report, and thus has better rankings.
