  1. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) Personally, I don't think doping is that bad in sports. How is this any worse than a batter getting Lasik surgery that he doesn't really need to get better vision at a baseball? Lasik surgery = legal Many of these drugs/steroids players are taking = illegal For everyone that think steroids isn't bad, wait til these players are between the ages of 40 and 45, and start dropping dead from heart attacks. If you follow wrestling, you know that an amazing amount of wrestlers die way too early, and steroids can't be helping their bodies.
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Thank you fathom. Just for the record, it doesn't mean I'll stop criticizing Ozzie's use of Timo. However, I'm stopping the sexual references I've been making about their relationship.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Scootie P Iguchi A.J. Jenks Hermanson Pablo Ozuna Jermaine Dye All of those moves have been very very good. I agree, I was just saying that at the time, I thought they were great moves by KW. I couldn't imagine dealing with the Ben Davis/J. Burke tandem this season.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) Maybe Jenks wasn't drafted by the Sox, but he was salvaged off the scrap heap. That's a good, no .... Great! GM move. I've said all year it's the best move KW made all season. That, and the AJP move, were the two best, in my opinion.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) I'm gonna drop my 2 cents in here. This Timo blowing Ozzie s*** is something I'd expect out of some 13 year old kids. It's offensive. It's insulting to the intelligence of Soxtalk posters and it's been going on for entirely too long. Why the hell don't some of you people grow up or, at the very least, challenge yourself to see if you can possibly come up with something new and halfway intelligent. And, for the record, I am not the only one who feels this way about pre-teen caliber s*** you are slinging around here. For the record, I won't say anything regarding Ozzie/Timo like that from now on. I didn't know that it was frowned upon on here, as I figured most knew it was a joke. Thanks for letting us know it's not appreciated on here.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) OK, but it took them a while to regroup and turn it back around, and besides CC Sabathia is anyone on that pitching staff home grown talent? Victor Martinez Jonny Peralta Travis Hafner Coco Crisp Grady Sizemore Casey Blake CC Sabathia That is all right? WHITE SOX home grown talent Mark Buehrle Jon Garland Neal Cotts Bobby Jenks Joe Crede Aaron Rowand Jenks, Blake, Garland, Sizemore aren't considered home grown talent. Usually, home grown talent means players you've brought into the system, and developed throughout. Jenks is such a different pitcher than the type we usually see with the Sox...he must have been brought in!
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 04:05 PM) Besides Oakland, Minnesota, and Atlanta, what other organizations would you be talking about? I don't see many organizations at all developing young talent on a consistent basis. Cleveland....they're going to be monsters for the next 5 years or so.
  8. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) Who would replace KW as the GM? Steve Stone
  9. QUOTE(mreye @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) I was on vacation since last Wednesday, so I didn't have to experience much of this, thank God. But, the worst thing about last night was the dugout in the ninth with one on and Rowand at the plate. Not a sole standing. Everyone was sitting and looking dead. Sad. Really sad. That's shot says it all about this team right now. Has it been that way for the past week? It's been much, much worse. Last night was a spirited effort compared to most of the games in the last week.
  10. Buerhle's going to have to keep Lecroy down. Of course, if the Sox don't score, it's not going to really matter. Lets get some f***ing runs tonight boys!
  11. QUOTE(jasonxctf @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) AJ needs a rest every 4th game and that's fine. Also isnt stealing a base imperitive in small ball. When was the last time we actually stole a base??? Unlike many Sox pitchers, other teams actually hold base runners on. We have some terrible base runners, like Ozuna and Uribe. We're better off doing hit-and-runs than straight steals. Of course, you can't steal if you get on base.
  12. We control our own destiny. If we lose a majority of the rest of our games this season, we won't make the playoffs. I wouldn't want it any other way. If we play good baseball and win like 60 pct of the rest of our games, we'll make it.
  13. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) It's time to give Brian Anderson a look now. I think that both the notions that Dye "carried us" and given us a pass are both incorrect really. He was called Jermaine Dead for a long time and he got better but it wasn't like he played THAT great. The issues with this offense are plentiful, to the point that finding a scapegoat like Dye doesn't accomplish much. Dye's OPS from May to July was outstanding. Of course, that was when he wasn't trying to pull every pitch. I wouldn't be against giving another hitter a chance in this lineup, but Anderson's swing is too long to contribute at this level now.
  14. IF, and that's a big if, the Sox don't make the playoffs, which of these slogans would best describe this 2005 season? - White Sox baseball: Win.....or do nothing. - White Sox offense: More doughnuts than Krispy Kreme. - White Sox offense: Couldn't score with a drunk Tara Reid. - White Sox pitching: Less room for error than Paris Hilton's birth control. - 2005....The Year of the Timo for four. - Where would he play? Any other? And please, no lectures on this being a pessimistic post. Just cause we post in here, it doesn't mean we're giving up on the season.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) Sooooo many offensive problems, sooooo little time. Soooo little in-house options.
  16. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) Do I think he juiced? Yes. Do I think it matters? Absolutely not. Juice isn't gonna make you do what he did. The type of enhancers he's being accused of would certainly give a rider an unfair advantage.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) Rowand is in the exact same squatty stance as last year. Pitchers have made an adjustment on him, he needs to adjust in return. I wonder why so many on this board aren't employed in baseball, I'm not either. Rowand's swing is longer than it was last season....among other things. The two main reasons our offense has underperformed this season is that Rowand and Uribe haven't maintained anything close to their offensive numbers from last year.
  18. QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) who is hitting the ball??? crede...no, uribe....no, rowand....no, whoever is in left? nope..........the only people not in a slump are konerko and iguchi. cant blame it simply on dye. Iguchi's in a big slump also right now, and his execution at the plate has rivaled Crede for being the worst on the team over the last few weeks.
  19. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) I am talking about cheap all year, not just Griffey. Jerry took Maggs, Lee and Valentin money and flipped some of it over to the pitching staff and pocketed the rest. Bevery Hills staff and a bargain basement offense. I really think Jerry's problem is he is a risk free guy. He just won't hedge his bet. His budget was his only consideration and Kenny thought the pitching would carry the club. No offense, but you're clueless.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Its not even bashing you, its the truth. To be honest I haven't seen anything that looks like you are rooting for the team. Everything is about what is wrong, not what is right, fun, enjoyable, exciting etc. Even when something good happens it gets qualified by a negative. To be honest, somedays I wonder if you enjoy being right more than you enjoy a Sox win. But I will give you this much, at least you were saying what you were saying consistantly. The people who had the magic numbers in their signatures and the cute sayings before, only to be replaced with how bad we suck, trade demands, and how they know we are going to lose now are the true bottom feeders. Unless you want to count the people coming out of the woodwork after not posting for months to say how bad we suck. I don't know how much you enjoy baseball, but at least you are a stand up guy. Fair enough. Maybe I didn't seem as excited as others on here, and that was probably because in the back of my mind, I didn't think the "magic season" would continue, and didn't want to get overly optimistic. The funny thing is that three weeks ago, I was beginning to think it would take a collapse of epic proportions to not make it. Now, I feel like Arizona in the Elite Eight game against Illinois, and we have no timeouts left to stop the bleeding. Trust me though, I do root for the Sox. I wouldn't waste so much time on here if I didn't.
  21. QUOTE(wallyburger @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Right now K.C. may be the only team in the division who are not a threat to the Sox. The rest of the schedule is loaded with inter divisional match ups. Woe is us. 3 better teams chipping away at Sox, "insurmountable" , lead. Can't complain about the Sox offense.......because there is none. Hey Jerry, you cheap SOB, way to blow another one. He just sucks the life out of Sox fans. I don't think the Griffey Jr. trade is about money. If it's true the potential Reds ownership buyer won't make an offer without Griffey Jr. on the team, then he's not going to get traded.
  22. BTW, I don't think people blame Timo personally. Rather, many of us feel Timo is representative of the complacency that happened with this team about a month ago. Also, Timo is representative of the cluelessness that is Ozzie Guillen's in-game managing.
  23. Dye basically carried this offense for two months. Now, he's slumping majorly again like he did to start the season. Part of the reason it would have been great to acquire another OF/DH was to be able to sit Dye, or any other outfielder, more when they're slumping. What's Ozzie going to do now, bench Dye for Anderson?
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) No you wouldn't. You haven't been happy all year no matter what our record has been. You have been predicting doom and gloom forever. Thanks. I've been predicting doom and gloom because I felt it was just a matter of time before our tough 2nd half schedule caught up to us, and we stopped getting all the breaks. Now, a superior Indians roster is peaking, and making up games at a frightening pace. Keep bashing me all you want, I'll still be rooting for the Sox unlike a lot of cowards on this site. It's hard to get mad about a team collapsing when they haven't done a thing to try and correct the problems the team has.
