  1. I know a lot of people dislike me as a poster, but I think these new rules are easy to follow. I used to make fun of the Ozzie/Timo stuff, but all it took was one person to say stop it, and I did. It's not a hard concept. Since a lot of people hate the negative posts that people like myself, Milkman, and SSI make, how about just a running thread for pessimist/negative posts so that we don't upset other posters that don't want to deal with it?
  2. QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) Sure their hitting has picked up. They are playing the dregs of the AL. That is true. I just think the confidence they're gaining lately is really going to spark their offense the rest of the way. Lets hope I'm wrong, and they go back to slumping when they face the Sox, Twins, and A's.
  3. All I know is that we better not just conceed the Labor Day game and play basically our minor league team. In the heat of a pennant race, that would be so foolish. YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!
  4. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 05:14 PM) WE'RE f***ING 10-3 AGAINST THE INDIANS THIS YEAR! How do we not match up well againt them? Just bc they are beating up on the Royals, D-Rays, and Tigers right now doesn't mean they are the best team in baseball. Because their hitting has actually woken up. Their hitters underperformed for almost the entire first half. How many games did we beat them like 2-1 or 1-0? I think we match up better against the Angels personally.
  5. We don't match up very well with the Indians now. Millwood and C.C. have our number. I'd rather play the Yankees than the Indians. Of course, there's a decent chance that last series of the year could be for the AL Central pennant.
  6. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Yeah,I remember that. But blind optimism adside,I think McCarthy could surprise people, today.I didn't think he he be that good against the Cubs.(Ok,bad example) I think he'll do better than his last game against Rangers. However, I don't think it's realistic to expect him to give up less than 3 runs over 6 innings vs Rangers. If our offense can't score at least 5 runs, I don't expect us to win.
  7. QUOTE(WSNS-TV44 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:46 PM) McCarthy>Adkins or ANYBODY ELSE>>>Adkins Do you remember the Munoz disaster of last year?
  8. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) Besides blind optimism, I don't understand how people could think he'll go deep into a game without giving up a ton of runs. At least it's more entertaining than watching Adkins start.
  9. Our offense has become the college basketball version of a defense-oriented college basketball team. When the game is close, we hae a great chance to win. If the other team gets out to any type of substantial lead....the game is over. We severely lack the fire power to come back from a big lead (Steve Karsay as the exception).
  10. Quite simply we're in the position now that if we play .333 ball the rest of the way (I think we're 5-10 in our last 15), we're not going to make the playoffs. We still control our own destiny. Basically, we have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't make it.
  11. Yeah, after not having a 4 game losing streak all year, the Sox have the chance after today to have their 2nd 4 game losing streak in a span of two weeks. I wonder how Hawk would sugar coat that? Hopefully, we sweep today, and that's not an issue. Time for Garland to step up and show he's the true ace of the staff.
  12. We need to win at least one game. I have a feeling we're going to see some Sunday lineup specials, which scares me.
  13. Lets get back to the topic please!
  14. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 04:00 PM) The better adjustment for Uribe would be on the bench with Pablo starting, but that is another post. When rarely have more than a few hits, having a few singles is a start. We could have used A HIT a few times with runners on last night or how about in Freddy' no hitter. You can wait for a three run homer, look at the twins the past few years. What? The Twins played for the 3 run homer you suggest? You couldn't be more further from the truth with that. If Ozuna was our starting SS all season, he'd have 30 errors and probably end up batting around where Uribe will finish off batting, with no extra base power. And BTW....Gload had his chances this season, and didn't impress. He choked in that KC game with the error....no other way to desribe it.
  15. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) If Gload hit .270, the only person in our line up better would be Iguchi. I am just suggesting that we try something different to get a spark. If we fail, it is not like we can make the offense worse. I don't care if he hit .270 if it's all singles. What this team needs is offensive production, not a worthless 2 out single down 7-2. What we should be doing is shaking up the lineup. I did like the adjustment Uribe seemed to be making with his stance. It's about time he tried something new.
  16. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) Well we have not exactly been a winning team lately, have we? You're preaching to the choir about that. No one on this site thinks we need an offensive upgrade more than I do. However, you make it seem like Gload is guaranteed to bat .370 for the Sox and get a clutch hit every AB.
  17. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) It is too bad Gload can't play Shortstop or Third. How about this scenario. LF Everett CF Pods Rf Die DH Gload 1B Pop Up Paulie Arow is struggling since June. Everett defense is not nearly on par, but we need offense. So you downgrade the defense at two positions. You have two guys in the outfield who are both coming off of injuries. Not exactly a formula for winning baseball.
  18. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) DO you enjoy watching Pop Up Paulie walk to the plate 4 times a game in the 3 hole only to pop up twice, K once with runners on base, then single with the bases empty consistently? Do you honostly see him as a clutch hitter? I do enjoy him being one of the best power hitters in the AL from a power hitting position. In times when this offense is slumping, it's easy to tell that PK is the best overall hitter on this team.
  19. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) Anybody that can not see that giving Gload a chance is worth it for the struggling offense, must be one of Ozzie's boys too. There is no logical explanation for not trying to shake things up when the offense is struggling. Where would Gload play? Gload's not better than Everett. He can't play the outfield due to his injury. Our offense needs help....but Gload isn't the solution. And I've never been accused of being one of Ozzie's boys, I can guarantee that.
  20. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) Compare that to now. Where does PK rack against the 1B of the contenting AL teams. Giambi is better. Ortiz is better (when he plays 1B), Cleveland and Anahiem are better too There's no comparison between the offensive production of PK and Gload. PK's numbers at least can be compared to those guys you mentioned, and not be laughed at. And Anaheim's first baseman isn't even in the same league as PK or those other guys. Actually, the guys you all list are mostly DH. PK is better than Broussard, Millar, Erstad, and Tino.
  21. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) With the way he played at the end of 2004, I don't know why nobody sees GLoad as a viable replacement. He hits for average (nobody else on the team does), he is a lefty, plays a solid 1B (was a defensive replacement for Konerko in several games), I think he even batted 3rd at the end of 2004 Exactly, AT THE END! He faced a lot of September call-ups during that stretch. Gload is a very solid bench player, but you're team is at a major disadvantage at the 1b position compared to other teams if he's your starter.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:28 PM) Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if we made a real move in the Griffey market. I could see a Contreras/Griffey/cash trade happening. I don't see Griffey Jr. approving a trade here. He really wants to have spring training in Florida. If he's not overly excited about coming here when we have a great shot at the playoffs...I don't think he'll be overly excited about coming here to start the season. I think we have a better chance at going after Huff again.
  23. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Seeing as there is question as to who (possibly 2) gets set aside for the rotation in the playoffs would it not make some sense to trade a starter for a big bat seeing as it is almost a consensus that one of the Cubans will be gone. With Beltran underachieveing is Rowand/a starter worth it if the Mets throw in some cash???? Floyd - Contrearas?? We need all the starting pitching we can get to make the playoffs. Contreras has been very good against the Indians the past few years.
  24. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) We are never active players on the UFA market, but we all know Kenny Williams LOVES to go after the biggest name possible in the trade market. Kenny is going to get another bat, we all can see that. He will do more if he loses Konerko as well. For once this off-season we will be able take on cash in a deal, and won't have to worry about giving up great players to do it. I still think we'll trade Contreras though. Would we try and become a player in the Manny market? I really think there's a chance we put Dye at 1b, and try to find another outfielder to bridge the gap until our prospects are fully ready.
